Unpacking and Inspection

After unpacking the unit, save all packing materials in case you ever need to re-ship. Thoroughly inspect the unit and packing materials for signs of damReport any shipment damage to the carrier at once; report equipment malfunction to your dealer.

This equipment generates and uses radio frequency energy and if not installed and used properly, that is, in strict accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, may cainterference to radio and television reception. It has been type tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B computing device in accordance with the specificatioSubpart J of Part 15 of FCC Rules, which are designated to provide reasonable protection against such interference in a residential installation. However, there is no guarathat interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipmOFF and ON, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: reorient the receiving antenna; relocate the computer with resto the receiver; move the computer away from the receiver; plug the computer into a different outlet so that the computer and receiver are on different branch circuits. If necessthe user should consult the dealer or an experienced radio/television technician for additional suggestions. The user may find the following booklet prepared by the FedCommunications Commission helpful: "How to identify and Resolve Radio/TV Interference Problems." Getting Started

IntroductionThank you for your purchase of Reflex,

Lexicon's Dynamic MIDIReverberator.

Reflex gives you 8 world class reverbera-tion and effects algorithms to enhance anyaudio performance. Sixteen preset effectsprovide a wide range of superb sounds rightout of the box , and a bank of 128 registers isavailable for storing your own customizedeffects.We've loaded the registers with anadditional 96 sounds to really get you going!

Reflex front panel operation is straight-

forward, with three adjustable parameterswhich allow you to make subtle or dramaticchanges to each preset.

An Advanced Programming Mode allowsyou to access additional parameters withineach algorithm, providing fine control overevery aspect of the effects. This mode alsogives you front panel control over Utility func-tions such as MIDI channel assignment andregister dumps.

Footswitch control allows you to bypassthe effects, to step through the registers, or toset up register chains to suit your perfor-mance needs

MIDI Program Change can be used toaccess any register, or to bypass Reflexprocessing. Beyond simple ProgramChange, Reflex lets you change parametersin real-time, using MIDI Note Number orcontinuous controllers. You can create asmany as 4 patches per effect, controllingPredelay with Mod Wheel, Reverb Time with

MIDI Notes, etc. Dynamic MIDI allowsexceptionally expressive performance andsequencer control.

Two of the algorithms (Chorus and MultiTaps) allow you to control echo rhythms withMIDI Clock, so you can synchronize delaysto drum machines and sequencers, vary theecho repeat rate, and still maintain tempo.

Even deeper control is available throufull MIDI SysEx implementation which allobidirectional communication with a decated controller, such as Lexicon's MRCa personal computer with appropriate soware. In fact, Reflex is already compatiwith existing editors which will recognize ita member of Lexicon's LXP series.

REGISTER/PRESETButton selects preset or register modeLED lights when register mode is selected

turns off in preset mode.Knob selects presets 1-16 or register1-128, depending on button setting.

STORE (+)/CLEAR ()Toggles Store and Clear functions. When "+" isdisplayed, holding stores the current effect to dis-played register. When "" is displayed, holdingdesignates effect to be skipped in a footswitch stepsequence. In Advanced Programming Mode, clears

any patches to the displayed parameter.

Setting Audio Levels

1. Turn Reflex INPUTand OUTPUT con-trols all the way down (fully counter-clockwise).

2. Connect Reflex inputs to an audiosource, and Reflex outputs to an ampli-

fier or mixer.3. Apply an input signal at a level that you

typically use.

4. While sending audio to Reflex, graduallyturn up the INPUT control until the InputStatus LED* lights green. Continue toadvance INPUT until the LED lights redon only the loudest peaks. If the LED is

continuously red, turn the INPUT controldown.

5. If Reflex is using a console's sends andreturns, set the MIX control fully clock-wise (100% wet). If you are using aninstrument amplifier, start with MIX sethalfway up.

6. Gradually increase the setting of OUTPUT control until the audio lefrom the amplifier or mixer is appromately the same as when Reflex is passed.

* The Input Status LED is off when the incomsignal is low; it lights to indicate acceptable lev(6dB to 30dB below overload). The LED lightswhen the signal approaches overload. Acceptasignals will trigger red flashes only on peaks.

Single-ended (unbalanced) stereo outputs provid-2dBu nominal output level. Use the right outpconnector for mono output. If no connection is madat the right output, the left output can be used to drivhigh-efficiency headphones at modest volume.

INPUTSingle-ended (unbalanced) inputs accept leveas low as -30dBu. Input impedance is 50 kstereo, 25 k in mono. Use the right for moninput.
