Dear Friends,

In my homily last Sunday, you might recall me using the poetic imagery of the

Incarnation as being God visiting His people. Straight out of the gospel of Luke,

this idea of God actually visiting us is the very foundation of what it means to be

Catholic. It is precisely what Holy Communion means to us.

I can remember as a little boy, and even now as an adult, I always wanted Jesus to

actually visit me. I would read my bible before going to bed and wonder: what would it be like to actually talk to Jesus,

in person. I would pray and pray that I would have an apparition of Jesus and actually be able to talk with him. Unfortu-

nately we don’t have a time machine. If we did, can you imagine how incredible it would be to go back and witness

some of the amazing events in Jesus’ life…to actually talk to him?

Obviously we can’t do this. But we can engage our religious imagination each time we celebrate mass and each time He

comes to visit us in the Eucharist. Sometimes when I’m celebrating mass this is just what I’m thinking of. When I raise

up the host and the cup and say, “Behold the Lamb of God….” I’m thinking in my mind that this is it…this is the mo-

ment when God comes to literally visit me. This is what I’ve wanted ever since I was a little boy reading the stories of

the Gospels.

I was visiting with a class of Theology students at UMHB some time back and I said, “What would you do if I told you

that on Tuesday of next week Jesus would be sitting in the first pew at CTK waiting for you…in person…really there…

what would you do?” They all said, if that were the case, we’d go and talk to him. I told them that this is precisely what

we think about each time we come to Mass. God is here to visit his people and He wants us to come and visit him.

We have daily mass here at CTK, an incredible opportunity for all of us to visit Jesus. (Mon, Wed, Fri – 8AM & Tue

and Thu – 6:30 PM) I encourage all of us to engage our religious imagination and consider the theological fact that at

each of these masses, just as is the case on Sundays, Jesus is here in this church to see YOU…he wants to visit you.

What if I were to tell you that at each of these mass times Jesus would actually appear in bodily form? Would you come

to see him? Daily Mass is a great gift that, at least for me, ALWAYS makes my day better. It assuages my anxieties,

calms my concerns, and gives me the right perspective by which to approach my day. Daily Mass – Jesus is here to visit

you.

Take care,

Fr. James

Fr. James,

May God bless you in a special

way today for the love and

concern with which you minis-

ter to all those entrusted to

your care. May your life be

filled with God’s good gifts,

abundant joy and heaven’s

peace.
