Letter From The President--Important NoticeIn the past few months three homes across the street from Wegmans, between AmeriCu and Autozone, have been purchased by one individual. These properties border residents on Bay-berry Circle and it is expected that this individual may be purchasing additional property and likely will be asking for a zone change on the parcels.

In order to protect property value and quality of life for our residents, the BCA has consistently worked to ensure that any further retail/commercial zone changes on the East side of Rt. 57, be-tween John Glenn Blvd and Wetzel Road be complementary to adjoining residences. The BCA has been instrumental gathering petitions and notifying residents of potential development and zon-ing changes and have worked with town and county officials on the behalf of Bayberry residents.

We will keep Bayberry residents informed on any further developments with this matter.

Judy McVity, President

Editor’s Note--I have spoken to the T/O Clay Supervisor who will contact me on any requests for zone changes for the properties referenced above.

We Need YOUR Input! The BCA is looking into the possibility of changing the process of how the newsletter is being delivered. This will allow us to run more efficiently as an organization without sacrificing our goal of keeping our neighbors informed about what is happening in our community.

In order to be successful in gauging the feeling of the community in this matter, please go to the following link and take a short survey https://tinyurl.com/BCANewsletterSurvey and provide preferences and feedback regarding how you want to learn about Bayberry’s news and activities in the future.

Can You Spare 10 Hours a Year & Help?

Receiving and reading this newsletter is an awesome way of getting some“Refrigerator Material” nine or ten times a year and keep up with all the great events going on in and around the Bayberry community.

Currently these are being delivered by some of your neighbors or even people from other areas in Bayberry. This is a great way to get to know your neighbors and neighborhood a bit better, get some fresh air and just say ‘Hi” to Bayberry walkers!

Sounds good?! Great--we have oppor-tunities for three areas to deliver the Bayberry News:

• Kumquat Lane/Blueberry Lane• Bayberry Cir/Lark/Nightingal Path• Holly Lane/Lorriane Crescent/Ethyl &

Sunset Courts

There are anywhere between 20 and 44 homes that need to be delivered to which takes about an hour to do just nine or ten times a year.

If this sounds like it is in your wheel-house shoot us an email at [email protected] or contact Bob Stella at 315-652-6145.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!

Are You A People Person?

For over sixty years the BCA has been welcoming new residents to the com-munity with packets of very useful information and saying “Hello and Welcome to Bayberry!”

We are looking for someone to help the BCA welcome these residents to our community. We will provide you with all the tools and paperwork and yes training!

All you will need to do is keep an eye out on real estate transactions online or in the Sunday paper, then deliv-er these packets and say hello! You even get an official title -- ”Welcome Committee Chairperson”! Call Mike Banks-315-652-2657.

2019-2020 Membership Drive and Dues UpdatesThe purpose of the BCA is to facilitate communication and a sense of community within the neighborhood of over 1,500 homes; to keep residents informed; to advocate for our interests with local government; to organize community events and activities; and to keep the community a safe, friendly and well-maintained place to live.

In order to fund its sponsored events, activities and operating expenses, the BCA offers commu-nity residents membership in the association by payment of dues. At our April 7, 2019 Meeting, the Executive Board voted to change our yearly dues to $10.00. Raising the yearly dues will allow us to continue covering the increasing rates of our insurance and operating expenses, but more importantly, it helps us provide more activities to YOU...our neighbors. Here are some of the ways your dues work for you and our community:

Current BCA Services, Activity and Event Expenses Include:

• New Resident Welcome Packets--Earth Day Litter Cleanup--Christmas Tree Lighting

• Spring / Fall Garage Sale Publicity--Entrance Flower Planting & Maintenance

• Easter Event--Meet The Candidates Night --Home Improvement Fair--Ice Cream Social

• Child Car Seat Safety Check--Halloween Party in the Plaza--Summer Social/Picnic

• Guest speakers from Moyers Corners Fire Department, Onondaga County Neighborhood Watch, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department, NYS, County and Town Officials

• Holiday Decorating Contests--Cookie Drive for MCFD and NOVA--Santa Visits

• Town & School Board Meeting Attendance and Reports--Volunteer Appreciation Event

The BCA has some Operating expenses including Meeting Hall Rental, Liability Insurance, Web-site and hosting fees, and some administrative costs of PO Box, postage and office supplies.

The BCA also donates to various community groups which are selected annually. Past and cur-rent recipients have been MCFD, OCSD, Air-1, Boys Scouts, SRS Little League and many more.

The BCA awards yearly Student Scholarship(s) paid for by resident donations. We also publish nine Monthly Newsletters (covered by Advertiser Fees) and manage the distribution of informa-tion through our Facebook, Nextdoor, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat accounts.

You can pay your dues through PayPal, Mail or when your area representative stops by!

Some Reminders! Brush pickup is now being done week-ly and on Tuesdays in Bayberry. For more details on what can and can’t be picked up check out the Town of Clay website www.townofclay.org.

All yard leaves, tree branches and other yard waste should be placed on the edge of your front lawn not in the street.

If you live near a storm drain check to make sure they are not covered with leaves, branches, trash etc.

Dog walkers--you know the drill but please pick up your animal’s waste when walking in Bayberry.

Spring appears to finally be here and so is project season. Before doing any projects that require digging on your property, call 811 or go to the website call811.com and fill out your request to have your property marked for underground utilities.

MEMBERS OF BAYBERRY – Feel free to nominate people for open positions within the BCA!

Email [email protected] with nominations or

for more information.

Child Car Seat Safety Inspection The annual Child Car Seat Safety inspection will be held on Saturday, June 29th at the Bayberry Plaza parking lot--time to be determined. The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department will againcome out and check car seats to make sure that they were properly installed and make sure that the safety seat isn’t expired. If possible, please bring the owner’s manuals for the car seat and your vehicle. These two sources of reference aid the Sheriff’s Department with making the inspection flow smoothly and in a timely manner. As soon as we find out when the OCSD can attend the exact time will be disclosed.

Bayberry’s Seasoned Citizens-We Want You!! Houses generally sell fairly quickly in Bayberry and usually to younger families; but there are some of us who have lived here for years or decades in some cases--we want to hear from that second group! Many of the activities the BCA provides are geared for children and grandchil-dren so the BCA is looking to offer some events that may appeal more to the young at heart.

We want your input on this, please send us your ideas, wishes or wants for activities for 50ish plus Club of Bayberry! Email your thoughts to [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you.

Bayberry Garage SaleSaturday, May 18 the annual Bayberry Community Garage Sale will take place in and around Bayberry. If you need to clear out that basement or garage here is a great opportunity for you! Thousands of people come to this event each year to help clean out our gently and not so gently used items! There is no official starting time but be prepared to sell your items between 9 am to 5 pm.

Would you like to advertise some of the items you are selling? Please email a brief description along with your address to [email protected] NO LATER THAN May 15th by 5 pm. A list and/or a link will be created and posted on the BCA website and all of the social media accounts.

The United Church of Christ in Bayberry from 10 am to 3 pm will have PB&J’s Lunch Box food truck at its site at the corner of Blackberry Road and Cherry Tree Circle. The food truck will be selling their famous grilled PB&J sandwich, grilled cheese on artisan bread with spinach and tomato, hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, pulled pork, nachos, chips and drinks. UCC will also be selling homemake baked goods of all kinds. They invite you to stop by and enjoy some great food.
