KEY CHALLENGES ROLLING OUT HPC
LOCATIONS
Lessons HPC rollout | Dominik Ziriakus | EV International Forum 27.10.2021
➢Availability of suitable space to install HPC charging hubs along motorways and major traffic routes
➢Additional need for space in urban areas and commercial vehicles in the future
GRID CONNECTIONS
➢Availability of sufficient Power at the location
➢Long lead times delay charging infrastructure rollout 6 – 24 months, depending on region
REGULATION AND PERMITS
➢Permitting processes are complex and take a very long time
➢Regulatory requirements are very diverse across Europe
➢Dynamic regulatory framework create uncertainty for long-term business models
➢New technical requirements result in added cost which will impact the business model

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PUBLIC AUTHORITIES
PRIORITISE CHARGING LOCATIONS
Lessons HPC rollout | Dominik Ziriakus | EV International Forum 27.10.2021
➢Make public land available for charging infrastructure wherever reasonable
➢Incentivise the installation of publicly accessible charging on private land
➢Earmark new locations along motorways or major traffic routes/hubs
EXPAND THE POWER GRID
➢Invest in power grid expansion where charging is most needed (motorways, traffic hubs, etc.)
➢Enable streamlined permitting for grid connections
➢Incentivise DSO and TSO to prioritise charging infrastructure
SUPPORTIVE REGULATORY FRAMEWORK
➢Set a stable and consistent framework that the market can depend on and grow
➢Harmonise requirements as much as possible
➢Streamline the permitting process for charging infrastructure
➢Regulation should set the framework and targets – technical solutions develop quicker than regulation
