Math Bubble counting - Add
the correct number of
bubbles (printable or
glass gems) to the
counting mat.
Shape bubbles - Add
bubbles (printable or
glass gems) to outline
the shapes on the
shape mats. (TF)
Counting bubblegum
book - Add the correct
number of gumballs to
each page. Use finger-
prints or circle stickers.
Shape bubble wands -
Use pipe cleaners to
make different shapes.
Turn them into bubble
wands and test them
out. Discuss what hap-
pens. (TF)
Bubbles song - Sing “Ten
Little Bubbles”. Use the
printable bubble cards
to act out the song. (TF)
Bubbles
LESSON ACTIVITIES - EXPLANATION
Science Explore bubbles - Blow
bubbles. Discuss how
the wind impacts bub-
bles and different things
that will make them
pop. (TF)
Bubble snakes - Make
and use bubble snakes
or a favorite bubble
blower.
Wand making - Experi-
ment with different bub-
ble wands. Make your
own out of household
items like slotted spoons,
potato mashers, wire
hangers etc. (TF)
Bubble towers - Make
bubble towers. Com-
pare results using differ-
ent shapes and sizes of
containers.
Bubble recipes - Experi-
ment with different bub-
ble recipes. Compare
and contrast how well
the bubble solutions
work. Start with Dawn
dish soap mixed in wa-
ter. Then move onto
store-bought bubbles.
Then try recipes like this
one. Keep track of the
results. (TF)
Literacy Ten Little Bubbles - Write
10 Little Bubbles on a
large piece of paper or
sentence strips. Read it
together, using a bub-
ble wand as a pointer.
/b/ words - Make a list
of words that start like
bubbles.
Bubble wrap letters -
Write letters or words on
bubble wrap with a per-
manent marker. Chil-
dren can trace over the
bubble letters with their
fingers or pop the bub-
ble wrap along the let-
ters/words.
Bubble adventures - Use
a shared writing experi-
ence to write a story
telling about a pretend
adventure a bubble
might have after it floats
off into the sky.
Bubble print names - This
can be done in multiple
ways. Use painter’s tape on
heavier white construction
paper to form letters. Then
press painted bubble wrap
all over the papers. When
dry, remove the tape. For a
no-tape method, write
names on paper and cover
with round stickers (pretend
they’re “bubblegum”). (TF)
Other Scooping shapes -
Scoop and identify
shapes hidden in a bin
of bubbles. (TF)
Bubble painting - Add
bubble mixture (bought
or homemade) to cups.
Use food coloring or liq-
uid watercolors to make
colors. Blow bubbles
onto heavy white pa-
per.
Slime bubbles - Make
your favorite slime reci-
pe. Use a straw and
blow bubbles. Be care-
ful to supervise children
closely.
Bubble wrap painting -
Paint bubble wrap, ex-
ploring painting and
textures. If you want to
make prints, place
white paper on top of
the painted bubble
wrap. (TF)
Bubble play - Take a
bubble bath or get out-
side to blow bubbles.
Add bubble solution to
a kiddie pool and make
large bubbles.
(TF) - Toddler-friendly ideas that would work when home with children of different ages.

INDEPENDENT ACTIVITIES
These activities would work well as centers or work boxes during free play time. They’re
meant to allow children the chance to play, explore, and practice preschool skills on
their own. Children may still need some assistance at times, of course. They’re broken
down by subject area for reference. (TF) =Toddler-Friendly
Math
Number puzzles - Match the
numerals to the correct
amount of bubbles.
Bubble patterns - Use 2 or 3
colors of glass gems to be the
“bubbles” or “bubblegum” in
this independent patterning
activity.
Literacy
Bubble sight word building -
Build bubble words with letter
cards. If the word building
mats are laminated, children
can also write the letters for
each word in the bubbles with
a dry erase marker.
Bubble letter puzzles - Match
uppercase and lowercase let-
ters with the printable puzzles.
Science
Building with bubbles - Use
gumballs and play dough to
engineer structures. This can
also be done with small
Styrofoam balls (that have
been colored with liquid wa-
tercolors) and toothpicks.
Bubbles and ramps - Use gum-
balls and any items that would
work as ramps (like blocks or
cardboard).
Sensory
Soapy sensory bottle - Add
water to a clean, empty bot-
tle. Fill the bottle just half-way
(no more than 3/4 full). Add
dish soap (and optionally food
coloring or liquid watercolors).
Seal the top to the bottle.
Shake up and explore the
bubbles inside the bottle.
Scented soapy sensory plan -
Add scented dish soap or
shampoo to a bin of water.
Block Play
Building with bubbles - Tape
bubble number cards to
blocks. See how tall you can
make the tower of bubbles.
Blowing bubbles - Take pic-
tures of children blowing bub-
bles. Attach to blocks and
add to the other blocks. Cre-
ate your own small worlds.
Arts and Crafts
Pastel bubbles - Use pastels (or
chalk) on black paper to draw
bubbles. See this idea for inspi-
ration.
Bubble collage - Cut different
sized circles out of tissue pa-
per. Use a variety of colors.
Create a collage with the cir-
cles on a piece of paper. Al-
ternatively, create a sun
catcher by placing the circles
on contact paper or using liq-
uid starch.
Print each counting mat. If you’d prefer, you can choose to
print them in black and white by choosing the “grayscale” or
“black and white” choice in your printing options.
Laminate the mats for durability.
Use glass gems (or printable bubble cards) along with the
counting mats. Child identifies the numeral at the top of the
mat and then adds the correct number of “bubbles” to the mat.
When finished, store the mats in a large manila envelope or file
folder. You can print and laminate the cover sheet on the next
page as a label on the outside of the envelope/folder.

Bubble Shapes Print each shape mat. If you’d prefer, you can choose to print
them in black and white by choosing the “grayscale” or “black
and white” choice in your printing options.
Laminate the mats for durability.
Use glass gems (or printable bubble cards) along with the

the shape’s characteristics. Child traces over each shape with
the gems or bubble cards.
When finished, store the mats in a large manila envelope or file
folder. You can print and laminate the cover sheet on the next

Bubble Gum Book Print out the emergent reader “Counting Bubblegum”. Fold
each page in half, ensuring that the print is on the outside.
Staple the book along the left-hand side.
Introduce the book to the child. Read through each page,
pointing to the numbers and words. Optional, underline each
number (or have child do so).
Add the correct number of “gumballs” to each page. This
can be done a variety of ways – using child’s fingerprints
(pressed into washable ink pad), dot stickers, or have child
hand draw the gumballs. On the last page, have child add
any number of his/her favorite kind of gum.

Bubble Recipe
Experiments Choose multiple bubble recipes to test.
Make predictions about what will happen
while blowing bubbles with each of the
recipes. Which recipe do you think will
make the biggest bubbles? Which recipe
do you think will make the longest lasting
bubbles? Etc.
Blow bubbles with each of the recipes. Be
sure to use the same bubble wands with
each recipe. Make observations as you’re
blowing bubbles. How many bubbles?
How long did the bubbles last? Etc.
Record the recipes and your
observations on the recording sheets.
