Group Activity Time provides an active learning experience to review lesson concepts.

Option #1 FISH & LOAVES

Before class, buy a small can of sardines and small, flat bread from a store and place in a lunchbox or brown lunch bag. Have the children sit on the floor. Show them two of the little fish and five pieces of bread. Option: Place the two fish in a ziplock bag and pass around for the children to look at more closely. Say: Today in our story we learned about the little boy who shared his lunch with Jesus. Look at the food in my lunch bag. This is like what the little boy brought to Jesus. Do you think this is enough food to feed lots and lots and lots of people? It was! Jesus prayed and said thank you to God for the food and then started sharing it with all of the people. Everyone had plenty to eat. Jesus did something special through the little boy who shared his lunch and He can do something special through you too.

Option #2 FISH TOSS

Have the children form a line. Place a big basket or container about five feet away from the front of the line. Show the children the beanbags or balls and tell them to pretend they are fish. Give the first child two “fish” to toss into the basket. Once they have had a turn, they can hop to the basket and get the “fish” for the next child in line. After each child has had a few turns, have the children sit on the floor. Say: Today in our story we learned about the little boy who shared his lunch with Jesus. What was in the little boy’s lunch? That’s right! There were five loaves of bread and two fish. Jesus made that little lunch feed lots and lots and lots of people. Jesus did something special through the little boy who shared his lunch and He can do something special through you too.

Option #3 CLASS PICNIC

Either outside in a grassy space or inside your classroom, lay out a large blanket for the children to sit on. Pass out fish crackers, gummy fish or whatever snack you have available to the children. While they are eating their snack, talk about the special thing that Jesus did with the little boy’s lunch. Say: Today in our story we learned about the little boy who shared his lunch with Jesus. All of the people who came to hear Jesus talk, but when He was done, they were hungry. Jesus had all of the people sit on the ground, just like we are doing, and he shared the little boy’s lunch with them. Jesus did something special through the little boy that shared his lunch and He can do something special through you too.
