Apartheid was a system of racial segregation enforced by the National Party governments of South Africa between 1948 and 1994, under which the rights of the majority non-white inhabitants of South Africa were curtailed and white supremacy and Afrikaner minority rule was maintained

South Africa

South Africa Just one country in the region, but

has had great influence socially and economically

Until the 1990’s the white, European minority ruled South Africa When England took control of South

Africa in 1932, they categorized people by the color of their skin

Blacks and Indians had little to no rights under this system of apartheid

The colored majority fought for years against apartheid, creating a strong sense of nationalism and community Wanted more say in their government Inspired surrounding countries to do

the same (Namibia and Zimbabwe)
