نإب

Son, mentioned 43 times in the Quran

Sixth verse of chapter 61 (sūrat l-ṣaf):

And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, "O children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allah to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad." But when he came to them with clear evidences, they said, "This is obvious magic." 38th verse of chapter 30 (sūrat l-rūm):

So give the relative his right, as well as the needy and the traveller (son of travelling). That is best for those who desire the countenance of Allah , and it is they who will be the successful. 157th verse of chapter 4 (sūrat l-nisāa):

And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.

Why are there 12 ways to say I, we, you, they, he and she in Arabic? One of the reasons is because in Arabic, words are either boy words or girl words. Let’s meet Abu Bakr and Asma. Abu Bakr and Asma are brother and sister:

Because Asma is a girl, she is described in a certain way. We would say “she is hard working, kind and loving”. As a boy, Abu Bakr is described in a different way. We would say “he is patient, truthful and trustworthy”. The reason why we use the word ‘she’ is because Asma is a girl. The reason why we use ‘he’ is because Abu Bakr is a boy. A girl is known as feminine and a boy is known as masculine.

In Arabic there are also boy (masculine) words called ر ك ذ .م

Girl (feminine) words are known as م

ن ث

ؤ .

Correct the following sentences To understand this further, correct the following sentences 1. Ali is a really good boy. She practices reading the Quran every single day.

2. Aisha is a really kind girl, he always shares his toys.

3. Can you tell if I am a boy or a girl from this sentence?

Now let’s, draw our table of I, we, you, they, he and she (the personal pronouns) again. This time let’s colour the boy words in blue, the girl words in pink and the words that can be used for a boy or girl in green:

How do you know if a word is a girl (feminine) word? You can spot a female word if it has one of the following 4 signs:

1) If the word has a ta marboota صة or ة the end of the word it is a feminine word:

or

2) If the word has a اء (known as alif mamduda) at the end it is a feminine word:

اء

3) If the word has a مى(known as alif maqsora) at the end of the word:

ىم

What if there is no clear sign that a word is a girl word?

There are also words that do not have these signs, but are still ن ث

ؤ To check .م

this we can look in the dictionary. For example, these words are feminine:

الش سم

The Sun

ال ضر

The Earth
