TRANSCRIPT
Dear Family,This has been a year of growth and change
for Kindergarteners. This week, children will
discuss the question “How can details help me
understand a main idea from a selection?” In
the informational text Look at Us, we will read
about children from different backgrounds and
their personal achievements. Children will also
read The Three Little Pigs, and see how trying
hard didn’t help the wolf!
This week’s…Words to Know: off, take
Phonics Skills: Words with y (yard); words with qu (quick); blending words
Vocabulary Strategy: Figurative language
Comprehension Skill: Main ideas and details—tell important ideas and details about a topic
Comprehension Strategy: Question—ask questions about what you are reading
Writing Focus: Write to express—write poems
Activities to Do Together
VocabularySay as many sentences as you can using the Words to Know in one sentence. For example, “The plane will take off soon. I will take off my coat.” Then talk about how take off means different things in each sentence.
What If?Ask, “What if your friend were just starting Kindergarten today? What would you tell your friend about Kindergarten?” Talk about this with your child.
I Like It!Talk about a favorite story your child read in Kindergarten. Ask your child what he or she liked best about that story. Then help your child write two sentences to support his or her opinion.
Go to Destination Reading to reinforce this week’s skills.
