Jesus Condemned to Death (Mark 15:12-15; Matthew 27:22-26; Luke 23:20-25; John 19:4-

16)

What has been Pilate’s position so far?Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, that

you may know that I find no fault in Him. Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the

purple robe Pilate said, "Behold the Man!”

How did the Jews respond? Pilate: You take Him and crucify Him, for I find no fault

in Him Jews: We have a law, and according to our law He

ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God.

Jesus Condemned to Death (Mark 15:12-15; Matthew 27:22-26; Luke 23:20-25; John 19:4-

16)

We have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God. How did Pilate respond to this?

He was more afraid. Where are you from? Jesus gave no answer

Pilate says, “Are you not speaking to me?” Don’t you know I have the power. Jesus says, no you have no power except what is given

you by My Father The one who delivered me to you has the greater sin

From this point on Pilate looks to free Jesus

Jesus Condemned to Death (Mark 15:12-15; Matthew 27:22-26; Luke 23:20-25; John 19:4-

16)

If you let Him go, you’re not Caesar's friendPilate finally caves and brings Jesus out for judgment

Behold your king! Away with Him, Crucify Him Shall I crucify your King? We have no king but Caesar Why what evil has he done? Let Him be crucified

Pilate releases Barabbas and delivers JesusMt 27:24-25 When Pilate saw that he could not prevail

at all, but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, "I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it." "His blood be on us and on our children.“ Acts 5:28

Jesus is Led Away (Mark 15:20-23; Matthew 27:31-34; Luke 23:26-32; John 19:16-

17)

Put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.

Compelled (laid hold of) Simon to carry His cross A Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufas (Mark)

A great multitude follow Women who mourned and lamented

Jesus is Led Away (Mark 15:20-23; Matthew 27:31-34; Luke 23:26-32; John 19:16-

17)

Daughters of Jerusalem, Do not weep for Me, Weep for yourselves and for your children. For indeed the days are coming in which they will say,

'Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!'

Then they will begin to say to the mountains, "Fall on us!" and to the hills, "Cover us!“

If they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?

Jesus is Led Away (Mark 15:20-23; Matthew 27:31-34; Luke 23:26-32; John 19:16-

17)

Jesus was crucified with two criminals Isaiah 53:12

They came to Golgotha (Place of the Skull)

They gave Him sour wine mingled with gall (myrrh) to drink But when He had tasted it, He would not drink. What is he turning down?

Jesus on The Cross (9am - Noon)(Mark 15:24-32; Matthew 27:35-44; Luke 23:33-43; John 19:18-

27)

Jesus on The Cross (9am - Noon)(Mark 15:24-32; Matthew 27:35-44; Luke 23:33-43; John 19:18-

27)

How much graphic detail? Remember your age Note the Bible doesn’t give graphic detail simply

stated, “They crucified Him” Give enough to help the student understand the

situation

What is the key points to be taught from the cross?

Jesus on The Cross (9am - Noon)(Mark 15:24-32; Matthew 27:35-44; Luke 23:33-43; John 19:18-

27)

3rd Hour (9 AM)Arrive at CalvaryFirst of Jesus’ statements

Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.

“They crucified Him” Simply stated yet so powerful

Garments (didn’t divide the tunic) Casted lots (Ps. 22:18)

Sitting down, they kept watch over Him there

Jesus on The Cross (9am - Noon)(Mark 15:24-32; Matthew 27:35-44; Luke 23:33-43; John 19:18-

27)

Jesus’ mother (Luke 2:35) Woman, behold your son! -> Behold your mother!

Even the rulers with them sneered (Ps 22:6-7) He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the

Christ

The soldiers also mocked Him Offering Him sour wine "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.“

THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS In Greek, Latin, and Hebrew Jews wanted, “He says, He is the King of the Jews”

Pilate gets the last laugh

Jesus on The Cross (9am - Noon)(Mark 15:24-32; Matthew 27:35-44; Luke 23:33-43; John 19:18-

27)

Criminals argue If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us We indeed justly receive judgment … but this Man has

done nothing wrong. Remember me when you come into Your kingdom Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in

Paradise

Jesus on The Cross (9am - Noon)(Mark 15:24-32; Matthew 27:35-44; Luke 23:33-43; John 19:18-

27)

Those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads You who destroy the temple and build it in three days,

save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross He saved others; Himself He cannot save Let the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from

the cross, that we may see and believe Even those who were crucified with Him reviled Him. He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will

have Him
