LEMON magic! = = Reduce the Formation of Blackheads: Lemon juice can dissolve blackheads over time. To do this, rub lemon juice over blackheads before bedtime. Then upon aris- ing in the morning, rinse your skin with cool, clean water. Repeat this process every night until black- heads are no longer visible. The natural citric acid in lemon juice helps dissolve the oils that form black- heads in the first place! = = Skin Brightener: Lemon juice can soften and brighten any area of your skin. Cut a lemon in half and squeeze out all the juice you can into a cup. Before bed- time, dab a cotton ball into the juice and apply to any problem areas of your skin. Rinse well when you get up in the morning. Store leftover juice, in a container, in the refrigerator. For an overall perk-up treatment, mix 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice, into your bath water, and soak in it for at least 20 minutes. Your skin will look and feel radiant. = Lighten dark spots and blemishes: Acne scars and marks are embarrassing and a pain to get rid of. Lemon juice's citric acid gradually fades spots and evens your skin tone. Be cautious of open wounds or cuts on the face, as it can sting real bad. = Lighten and Highlight Hair: Lemon juice is a natural and safe alternative to using bleach. Squeeze the juice, from half lemon or more, into your hair. Do not try to comb through cause it won't work and your hair may snap off! If some seeds get into your hair, no prob- lem! They won't hurt your hair and you'll get rid of them later when you rinse your hair! Sit in the sun until your hair is dry, or about one hour. Shampoo and condition afterwards. = Strengthen nails: There are tons of nail hardeners on the shelves at your local stores, but you can get the same results -- and naturally -- using olive oil and lemon juice. The solution will not only condition weak and brittle nails, but it will also whiten yellowing nails. = Treat Dry Scalp and Dandruf : Combine 1/2 cup of olive, or coconut oil (melted) with 2 or more tablespoons of fresh lemon juice. Massage into your scalp, then cover with a cap for at least 15 minutes or even overnight. Rinse your hair well, then shampoo and condition. Repeat as necessary. = Brighten and Exfoliate Skin: This is a very simple beauty tip with lemon! To improve the visible appearance of your skin, cut a lemon in half and then dip one half into raw sugar. Gently rub the lemon over your face, arms, legs, or any area of your body! It only takes a few minutes of rubbing to slough dead skin cells and notice marked improvements! You can repeat the process daily to help brighten and exfoliate your skin. MAdu AWAnthI S ohan Weerasinghe: Christmas, for me, is spending time with my family and close friends. Christmas lunch is very special and we go to my brother-in-law’s place, at Kohuwela, to meet up with all our relations and friends. I make it a point that we don't take any musical engagements on December 25th so that it becomes a family day.. I also believe that we have to think of the less fortunate and make sure that we make their Christmas meaningful, too. My wife never forgets to decorate the Christmas tree and have the gifts ready. Yes, Christmas is a day where we enjoy ourselves very much and also bond with our families. I also love to listen to those Christmas songs. It’s simply a wonderful time of the year.. Corrine Almeida: Christmas is certainly a very special time of the year, but, unfor- tunately, the real meaning of it seems to slip out of our mind, very easily. I do make the cakes...rich and love, and I also have a few decors in my house, but no Christmas tree. I have a meal with my loved ones, but that would be a normal meal and nothing extraordinary. Many people make a huge fuss about Christmas lunch, .but what I do is to go give a lunch to a home - maybe a children's home or a home for the elders. Christmas is a time for giving, they say, but, honestly, in my opinion you really don't have to wait for only this time of the year to give, or share something, with anyone. I do it right throughout the year. Melantha Perera (Mirage):I cele- brate Christmas with my family - my loving wife, Devika, and my lovely daughter, Michelle. On the 24th night, we gather round the piano and sing Christmas carols. On the 25th morning, we go to church and then, on our return home, we prepare a very special Christmas lunch. I also make it a point to make the less fortunate happy because that's what Christmas is all about - giving hope to the hopeless. Merry Christmas, readers, and may Lord Jesus bless you. Kumar de Silva: Although very much a practicing Buddhist, I always appreciate and cherish the spirit of caring and sharing and giving during this festive season. With Christmas Eve always being a 'late night' experience, 25th morning is always a stay-in-bed-and-get- up-late affair. As I've been doing, these past years, late in the morning, I take a very big biriyani lunch, with an equally big slab of Christmas cake, to a not-that–well-to-do family celebrating Christmas. This also includes cash for school books and uniforms, etc., for the two children. I never fail in this. And then of course I'm always invited to Christmas lunch and dinner, by friends, which is a very enjoyable experience. Really, we don't need to wait for a Christmas, or a Wesak, or any other big religious event, to give and share with the less fortunate. There's a tremendous deal of sadness and poverty around us. Let's us make this spirit be all pervasive throughout the year.
