Pool Post Issue 22 Spring Term 1 2017 Lego education come to Pool Academy Lego Education, Hewlett Packard and Nova Construction Cornwall have joined join forces to support Tablet Academy’s Lego Festival at Pool Academy on the 2 nd February 2017. Now in its second year, the Lego Festival is visiting Pool Academy and is inviting local schools to participate in the day’s activities. Split into two sessions (primary schools and secondary schools), the event is organised to allow local students to attempt to solve six diverse challenges whilst engaging with an array of Lego Education resources. Tailored for key stage 2 and 3 students (9-13yrs), the event provides local pupils with the opportunity to use Lego Education resources and explore the possibilities these products can bring to improving teaching methods and learning processes. The event involves pupils working through six challenges including - Science, History, Engineering, Maths, Computing and Literacy. The Festivals are coordinated by the Tablet Academy as a chance for companies such as Lego Education, HP and Nova Construction Cornwall to support local schools and provide a means to training as well as engaging students and provide them with access to new resources and opportunities. Known as Challenge Based Learning, the Lego Festival is one of over 100 such events the Tablet Academy coordinates across England and Wales. Pictures of this event will be in the next edition of the Pool Post due out at Easter.

Well done Matthew!Matthew Daddow 9FKF has been busy again at RAF StMawgan, taking and passing a live weapons handlingcourse on the Saturday, and then having a day out on therange firing the semi automatic L98A2 weapon.

Although both days werevery long he thoroughlyenjoyed himself and madelots of new friends.

News of an Ex-studentThe father of Ben Tambling who left Pool Academy in 2008 has contactedthe school recently with some impressive news of his son.

Since Ben has left Pool Academy, he has gained 4 A Levels, a Masters inCivil Engineering with a Distinction at Portsmouth University. He has alsowon the Balfer Beatty Prize.

Ben is now working at Ramble in Civil Engineering.

Ben’s dad would like to thank everyone at Pool Academy pushing him on todo well and have high aspirations.

Year 11 Mock Interview Day

Year 11 students had their Mock Interview day on Thursday 9th February withover 25 Businesses giving up their time to help prepare students for theirfuture.

We will post some pictures and comments in the next issue of the Pool Post.

Students work towards DofERecently Miss Jackson and Mrs Adams took a group of 7 students to Portreathbeach on a Sunday. This was their first of twelve trips.

The group are working towards the volunteering section of the bronze DofE awardand they have chosen conservation; this was the first of twelve sessions they havecommitted themselves to. They picked up litter on the beach for an hour beforereturning to the minibus for hot chocolate and cakes baked by Kerry as part of herskills section of the award.

The students worked so hard and were a credit to the school.

Well done Emma!Emma Green 9FKF held a cake sale in aid of CancerResearch which raised £60 - Well Done Emma!
