August 2009 – September 2010 Rotherham District General HospitalClerk of Works / Project Manager

The role of Clerk of Works & Project Manager allowed a continued progression from my previous roles adding construction management and quantity surveying to my design and technical knowledge allowing me to design, quantify, program, manage and quality control construction projects to a very high standard.

Working in a leading role within the Capital Facilities department of an NHS Foundation Trust called upon my experience of Building Regulations, British Standards and also propel my knowledge of Health Building Notes and Memorandums to an exceptionally high level.

I met daily with clients and consultants to discuss schemes from a conceptual level and build the weakest of briefs into a fully detailed, quantified and programmed full business case for board approval. I then drove the project throughout its development and construction on site to deliver, as promised, great buildings or departments on time and on budget.

The Project Manager and Clerk of Works roles were a perfect marriage as they both aimed to produce the finest product possible in the most efficient manner and I was able to keep a firm hold of projects, contractors and subcontractors.

Since I joined the team at FJ Architects both my technical and general knowledge of all aspects of design and construction increased at an accelerated rate propelling my status in the company from an enthusiastic junior to a senior position within 5 years.

As Senior Architectural Technologist my role was to take a project from conception to completion including initial contact with a client and development of feasibility schemes right through planning, tender, building regulations and production of all drawings, details and specifications required to ‘As Built’ drawings and snagging.

I worked on many varying schemes which have developed into fantastic buildings, homes and complexes notably:

Joining Tribal Asset Management whilst in my final year of University I was charged with the surveying of schools throughout the north of England with a view to creating DFES information used to decide future school budgets for the development of additional facilities.

The data, which I gathered during the surveys, was converted into detailed AutoCAD files with embedded attribute information for each individual room to ascertain use, dimensions, condition and department.

I developed lisp routines, which significantly reduced the time frame required to produce finished documents for client distribution.
