English Dialogue Front Desk: Good evening, front desk.
Jacob: Hi, Id like to change rooms please.
Front Desk: What seems to be the problem, sir?
Jacob: Where do I begin? For one, Im boiling in here because the air conditioner doesnt seem to
work.
Front Desk: Im very sorry, sir. Ill have someone from maintenance come right up to check that for
you.
Jacob: Like I said, I want to change my room, not have the air conditioner looked at. The room stinks of
smoke and mildew and there arent any fresh towels.
Front Desk: Oh my! Im very sorry, sir. Let me change your room immediately. (typing)
Jacob: Good. By the way, the bathtub also looks like it hasnt been cleaned.
Front Desk: Again I apologize for that.
Sir, it looks like there arent any more standard rooms left, so Ill upgrade you to a junior suite.

Expression / Technique Master Note
-what seems to be the problem: ? *When you ask a person about any problems there are various ways to form a question sentence. But this
question sounds more innocent than asking whats the problem? So now the level of English is high
enough to know the small difference of sentences, you need to spot and practice to use the correct
sentence forms.
-Im boiling / cooking: *It is a figurative expression meaning Im really really hot. The native speakers exaggerate their situation
often to stress their point. You can also say Im melting or its like a sauna in here.
-Ill have somebody do something: It is very professional way of saying that I understand your
situation and will take an appropriate action.
-like I said: *You are using this expression to put emphasis on your point. You can also use let me make myself clear
about ~ to point out what youre really saying. Its almost like strongly demanding something from the
other person.
-stink: *This word is giving much strong feeling than smell. Its used to describe a strong and very unpleasant
smell.
-mildew: , [, , ] Ex) The kitchen was covered with mildew from not washing it for weeks.
-by the way: , *This very famous expression is used to give more information or when an idea popped in your brain
while you were talking about something else or something related. You can also say one more thing.

-that reminds me: , *When something instantly pops in your brain and remembered what you wanted to say, you can
smoothly use this expression to bridge the prior sentence to the new sentence. You can also use I almost
forgot ~.
**SUMMARY: Keeping up with the prior topic of the sentence and to use that to lead on the
conversation is very advanced skill of language. There are many very common expressions that connect
ideas which can be used to drift from one idea to the other. A good use of these can assist the speaker to
make the sentences more efficiently.
