Briefing media persons, the Deputy Commissioner Ashok said that the move is aimed at to encourage the people to follow the COVID appropriate Be- haviour religiously as the threat of covid is not yet over. He stressed upon uni- versal usage of face masks, adherence to the mainte- nance of social distance, and following other guide- lines issued by govt in let- ter and spirit. “District ad- ministration is leaving no stone unturned to contain the spread of virus, but any irresponsible behaviour from any quarter can lead to unprecedented situa- tion” he said. He informed that during the 2nd surge the district reported 21 covid deaths, which is on higher side of the past year and a cause of concern for administration. He in- formed that this week 1 new containment Zone has been notified. While speaking to the media per- sons, he implored them to spread the awareness re- garding the vaccination of age appropriate persons. He said that so far about 85% of 45 year and above age group persons have been vaccinated in the dis- trict. He further briefed that that district administra- tion is bracing to conduct door to door mopping ex- ercise and Vaccination un- der the supervision of se- nior officers of the district. He said the vaccination drive has been intensified in densely populated areas to reduce the risk of infec- tion. It was also revealed that since 1st of March, 1756 cases have been reported, Out of which 1583 recov- ered and 157 are active at present. He informed that this week the positivity rate has dropped to 1.12 % with 94 positive cases, which is on high side whereas the total recoveries for the week has been 69 as against the 101 for previous week which is on down side. He furthermore in- formed that all the COVID containment measures have been placed in to pre- vent any exigency. Kishtwar Admin braces up for mission mode mopping exercise, vaccination drive HIMALAYAN MAIL NEWS JAMMU, JULY 03 A lecture on "Health and Sanitation" was conducted by Indian Army on 03 Jul 2021 in remote areas of Banihal with an aim to spread awareness about good personal hygiene and its impor- tance for health and social reasons, which was attended by 77 locals. The lecture emphasised on good hy- giene practices like frequent hand- washing, dental care, bathing and wearing clean clothes which leads to good health and prevent diseases. The locals were also made aware of the symptoms of COVID-19, COVID vaccination program started by gov- ernment and various preventive mea- sures. In this regard, Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal formulated special teams of Joint Directors of Agriculture to monitor the event across the valley. In this backdrop, com- prehensive ceremonies were held all across the 10 districts wherein a large number of beekeepers in- teracted with the officers and officials of the depart- ment. Experts exhorted upon the officers of the depart- ment to motivate youth to- wards establishment of vi- able bee keeping units as the sector has good poten- tial to generate income not only in honey production but also the production of by-products like Bee wax, Propolis, Bee Venom and Royal Jelly. The bee keepers high- lighted various problems faced by the bee industry and suggested some mea- sures which are required to be taken by the Agriculture Department for its promo- tion. Director Agriculture on this day assured that the de- partment will take every possible measure for the re- vival and promotion of the sector. AP&FWD Kashmir organises ‘Apiculture Mapping Day’ HIMALAYAN MAIL NEWS JAMMU, JULY 03 In order to implement the directions of Lieutenant Governor, Deputy Commis- sioner (DC) Srinagar, Mo- hammad Aijaz Asad today chaired a meeting to review the pace of ongoing Vacci- nation drive and devise a strategy to achieve 100 per- cent target of eligible popu- lation. The Director Health Ser- vices Kashmir, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather was also present on the occasion. The DC said that no per- son has the right to put oth- ers' life at risk by infecting them or make any public place a Covid-19 Hotspot. He said strict action under law shall be taken against the persons who violate Covid-19 SOPs in any form. He directed all the officers to work in a coordinated manner and intensify vacci- nation process in the dis- trict to achieve 100 percent target within next ten days so that people of Srinagar district are protected from deadly coronavirus and pre- dicted a third wave. The DC directed for set- ting up of a Control Room to monitor the Covid-19 Vac- cination besides ensuring update Medical Zone/Block wise Vaccination reports af- ter every 3 hours. He also directed the concerned offi- cers to finish the ongoing door to door mapping of unvaccinated areas and identify high risk areas so that appropriate measures are taken at the earliest. He further directed that special Vaccination/Testing sites be set up at all entry points of the City including Pantha Chowk and Parim- pora to ensure all travellers are tested and vaccinated to prevent the spread of Covid- 19 infection. The DC said that the pri- ority is to protect human lives for which Covid-19 vaccination and strict ad- herence to Covid Appropri- ate Behaviour are only means with us and focused attention needs to be given for the same with top most priority. The DC further said that Shopkeepers/owners of Business establishments would be held responsible for allowing any unvacci- nated person in their shops or violating Covid-19 SOPs. Though the DC lauded the efforts and hard work being done by some officers for achieving Vaccination targets, he expressed his displeasure over the unsatis- factory performance in few Medical Zones/Blocks with regard to Covid-19 vaccina- tion. He asked the officers to work with Mission mode and improvise their perfor- mance to achieve the tar- gets. He said that the motive of the run was to create anti- drug addiction awareness among youth. Khan started his journey from Bakhshi Stadium Sri- nagar on April- 2 and fin- ished it at Rajghat Delhi on April- 8, 2021. He said that he has also participated in marathon runs from Srinagar to Sonamarg, Gulmarg and Pahalgam earlier. He said that the run to Delhi was not an easy task as he faced many challenges including, climatic condi- tions, foot injuries and other difficulties on the way, but he kept on taking steps without any regrets or remorse to reach his goal. Khan said that he has been supported by Abraq Agro and Divisional Ad- ministration Kashmir. After making a record, Khan applied for registra- tion for International Book of Records, Indian Book of Records and World Records India out of which he has got the two success- fully. ‘I will continue taking on new challenges and register for the Guinness Book of World Records also,’ said Khan. He said that through this run he wanted to give a strong message to all those youth involved in drugs that ‘nothing is impossible’. ‘It is disheartening to see our youth falling prey to drug menace. I was carry- ing a small banner all along to create awareness on drug abuse. I wish our youth who have become addicts quit the wrong practice and get a new hope of living a better life again,’ added Khan. Khan further expressed his gratitude to all who sup- ported him during his run to Delhi. Div Com felicitates Srinagar youth for achieving award of International Book of Records, Indian Book of Records HIMALAYAN MAIL NEWS SRINAGAR, JULY 03 Reviewing the arrange- ments for the ensuing Eid- ul-Azha festival, the Divi- sional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole today called for putting up enforcement, vaccination and testing ser- vices at all religious and market places across Kash- mir. The Div Com said that covid enforcement teams shall remain deployed at all marketplaces to ensure peo- ple are following the Covid SOPs including use of masks and social distancing religiously. He said that besides teams shall be deployed for vaccination and testing at all religious places and mar- ket places including sacrifi- cial animals sale centers to ensure containment of spread of Covid -19. He appealed to people that though the positivity rate is on decline, however, they should maintain covid appropriate behaviour as a habit to remain safe from the virus. The Div Com directed all DCs of Kashmir to establish sale centers where people can purchase the sacrificial animals with proper COVID-19 protocol. Stressing on rate regula- tion and availability of qual- ity poultry, the Div Com in- structed concerned to constitute multi-depart- mental squads to conduct extensive market checking to prevent traders, dealers and shopkeepers resorting to hoarding, overcharging, black marketing or sale of sub-standard items. The Div Com emphasized on PDD and PHE to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity and drinking wa- ter across all districts dur- ing the festival days. The DCs were asked to rope in religious leaders for COVID-19 SOPs’ IEC activi- ties to sensitize people about the importance of fol- lowing laid down guidelines and precautions to control the disease effectively. Police authorities were in- structed to ensure proper security arrangements and prevent the public from re- sorting to any sort of viola- tion during the festivity days. He emphasized on free movement of nomads and trucks carrying sacrificial animals through Mughal road and Sinthan road be- sides vaccination and test- ing booths be set up on the both roads for all incoming travellers. Stressing on cleanliness and sanitation, Commis- sioner SMC Srinagar was directed to ensure regular lifting of garbage and waste material and maintenance of proper sanitation around religious and market places. Among others, the meet- ing was attended by DC Sri- nagar, RTO Kashmir, Chief Engineers, PHE, R&B, Di- rectors of Health Services, FCS&CA and Sheep Hus- bandry, SSP Traffic, SP Headquarter Srinagar, CEO, Waqf Board and other dignitaries. In her message she said that Plastic Bag Free Day is a global initiative that aims to eliminate the use of single-use plastic bags in the world. It is about promoting envi- ronmental conservation by encouraging us all to stay away from the use of plastic bags and opt for eco- friendly alternatives. The NSS unit of Govt. Col-lege of Engineering &Technology, Jammu todayon 3 rd of June, 2021 orga-nized an Inter-collegeposter making competitionto commemorate Azadi KaAmrut Mahotsav- Celebra-tion of India’s 75 years of In-dependence and to cele-brate “International PlasticBag Free Day”.

The theme of the eventwas Don’t be Drastic; SayNo to Plastic. The event washeld under the supervisionand able guidance of collegePrincipal Dr. SameruSharma. In her message shesaid that Plastic Bag FreeDay is a global initiative thataims to eliminate the use ofsingle-use plastic bags in theworld.

It is about promoting envi-ronmental conservation byencouraging us all to stayaway from the use of plasticbags and opt for eco-friendly alternatives. Largenumber of participants

from different colleges ofJammu, Kashmir andLadakh participated in theevent and presented theirideas regarding the themethrough poster.
