Foss Waterway Development & Metro Parks

theafoss.commetroparkstacoma.org

The Foss Waterway Development Authority and Metro Parks Tacoma have partnered in long-term planning to develop

Central Park and Waterway Park. Supporters envision great views and gathering spaces, with Waterway Park emphasizing human-powered watercraft and a new dog park for residents to enjoy.

Foss Waterway Development Authority is the coordinating agency for the waterfront’s development. They are

brought people together to achieve a clean and healthy Commencement Bay that benefits both our community and the surrounding ecosystem that calls Puget Sound home. We are driven by a passion for the natural environment and our community; by a steadfast commitment to good science, strategic action and organizational excellence; and by a

conviction that together, we can accomplish more.

Our use of scientific review to drive unbiased policy allows us to combat the im-pacts of pollution, climate change, and unsafe devel-opment that threaten the safety of our environment. Today, we are working with the entire community to change Commencement Bay for the better.

responsible for the Public Esplanade; a ribbon of park benches, landscaping and walkways draws crowds to the esplanade that lines the west edge of the Foss Waterway. This public space will eventually span 1.5 miles and connects the waterway with downtown Tacoma.

Metro Parks Tacoma believes that good parks, open space and program services con-tribute to economic develop-

ment by fostering economic benefits and promoting tour-ism. MPT is further creating a vibrant, active and engaged community by bringing two new parks to Foss Waterway in years to come.
