Learning JourneyFair Trade Week Y3

3M Fair-trade week - Fair-trade week was lots of fun. We learnt all about what Fair-trade means and then went on a visit to Morrisons to find produce that we can buy for ourselves to help the farmers and producers to have a fairer deal, we think we'll be buying much more Fair-trade from Morrisons in the future! We then tried and tasted the food that we bought which was yummy, we loved the chocolate, especially Maltesers. We also created our own, new Fair-trade logos and created a PowerPoint slide to show what we had learnt over the week. At the end of the week, we shared our work with Year 5, it was lovely to show other children what we have been up to and to see their work too.

During Fairtrade Week, 3H have been busy learning all about where different foods come from. We discussed the chain of people involved from crop production to buying products from the supermarket any how Fairtrade makes it fair for all people in the chain. We have deepened our understanding of where in the world different foods can be grown and have learnt that certain foods can only be grown in certain countries. We then visited a local supermarket, Morrison's to see if we could find any Fairtrade items. Luckily, we identified lots of different food items and brought these back to school. This included chocolate, tea and bananas. We explored the packaging of these items carefully and then tasted the items. Yummy! We then focused on the Fairtrade logo and discussed what the symbol might represent. We worked creatively to produce a large collage logo for the year three display board using tissue paper and different collage techniques. We also worked hard to design a new fair trade logo with symbols and images that relate to Fairtrade. We then used thin paint brushes and watercolour paints to add colour to our designs. In computing, we worked in partners to research Fairtrade information, following a safe search. We then copied and pasted different images and information to create a PowerPoint slide. class PowerPoint. To finish the week we visited class 1L to share our learning with them. We also listened carefully to find out what they had been learning during the week and we all celebrated our new learning and successes.
