Learning Intelligence (LQ)
The use of Electronics Technologies for
Learning
Some Systems and Technologies
Needs Systems and Technologies
To offer resources to students, to
assess students, and to manage
their learning progress.
Learning Management System
(Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, Edmodo)
To interact with students in class Classroom/lab control system
(Language lab, NetSupport school, iClass,
iClicker, IPAD etc.)
To allow students to do self-directed
learning
Mass Open Online Course (MooC)
EDX, Coursera, Canvas
Udemy, Khan's academy, Treehouse
To support students to do learning
projects or presentations
Tablets/phones, social learning
platforms
Microsoft Sway, Apple iBook,
To support innovative pedagogies
such as Flipped Classroom
LMS / MooC Platforms, presentation tools
To support students learning on-the-
go.
Mobile learning and e-Book platforms
What are the stages/promises?
Support Learning
Extend Learning
Transform Learning
To enhance our teaching and learning
process by making it more efficient and
effective.
To extend students’ learning horizons
by offering optional learning resources
and/or challenging learning projects.
To transform the teaching and learning
paradigms with innovative pedagogies,
to nurture students into proactive and express
learners.

1. Teacher - Preparation
Cannot cater for student diversity.
Teacher enjoys all the exploratory part of learning

2. Teacher – Teaching
Has to cover everything, i.e., most time spent on
explaining the basic stuffs.
Low student engagement (<20% efficiency).

My First-Hand Experience
Lesson outline Student Preparation
Question 1 – What do you think are the benefits of
learning in groups?
Question 2 – How do you like group
presentations?
Question 3 – How do you like teacher feedback
after your presentation?
Question 4 – How do you like the new Teaching
and Learning model?
Summary
Students have enhanced their learning skills,
presentation skills, and discussion skills.
Teacher can focus more on high-order
exchanges instead of covering the basics.
Students think video tutorials could further
help their learning.

Learning Intelligence (LQ)
What is u-Learning?
u-Learning stands for Ubiquitous learning,
meaning that learners “can learn” any time,
any where, with any device, from any one.
Ubiquitous Learning is a counterpart to the
concept 'ubiquitous computing*', but one which
seeks to put the needs and dynamics
of learning ahead of the technologies that may
support learning -- Ubiquitous Learning: An International Journal
*Mark Weiser, ubiquitous computing 1988
e-Learning vs. u-Learning
E-Learning u-Learning
Focus Learning content Learning for a person
Technologies Presenting the content For a person to explore a
content
Goal Mastering the content Enhancing the intelligence
and capability as a person
Learning
Content
Pre-defined by
programme
On-demand by a person
Timespan Course of study Life-long and Life-wide
e-Learning is a Method
u-Learning is an Attitude

To nurture the Digital Citizens
The United States National Forum on Information Literacy
defines information literacy as "... the ability to know when
there is a need for information, to be able to identify, locate,
evaluate, and effectively use that information for the issue or
problem at hand."[1][2]
Other definitions incorporate aspects of "skepticism,
judgment, free thinking, questioning, and
understanding..."[3]or incorporate competencies that an
informed citizen of an information society ought to possess to
participate intelligently and actively in that society.[4]
How could we
educate them?
Fast and Instant Response
Multi-tasking and Non-linear
Visual and Graphical
Social Network and Cooperation
Just-in-time Learning
Want to explore themselves
Seeks meaning and values

My Learning Journey
Finding #1 – One can learn anything
Learning Intelligence
Lang Sport Music Emo
SQLQ MQ EQ
Learning Intelligence (LQ)
Learning Wisdom智慧 Learning Capabilities能力 Learning Methods方法
When we continue to learn -
to read, to understand, to
think, to relate, to imagine, …
Our brain becomes stronger
and stronger, and we can
learn and think better and
better.
Form 2After 12 monthsAfter 18 months
Finding #2 – Right process, results follow
Finding #3 – Learning takes effort
Tasks with thinking。Try to pay attention in class
。Try to understand and solve problem
。Try to recall something
。Exercise the brain, need effort
Tasks without thinking。Watch TV / Movie
。Play simple action computer game
。Brush teeth, drive the same road to school.

Finding #4 – Strategic repetitions
Neurons / Synapses
The average human brain
has about 100 billion
neurons.
Each neuron has a 1000
connections to other
neurons.
When we learn:- Generates new connections
- Strengthens repeat connections
- Weakens conflict connections
32
Artificial Neural Network
To model a neural network
with a computer program.
Instead of programming
the rules and instructions,
we offer various inputs with
many iterations.
The hidden nodes will then
store the pattern of inputs.
When a new input is given,
the corresponding output
will be generated!
Finding #5 – Challenge the limit
Finding #6 – Step-by-Step
Finding #7 – Appreciates the value of
learning
To nurture a child to lead and serve in our
next generation.
My Favorite Bible Verse
Genesis 12:1-2
The LORD had said to Abram, “I will make
you into a great nation, and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing. … and all
peoples on earth will be blessed through
you.”
