inequality and poverty in South Africa.

Learners came up with a project to make medicinal herbs using available resources in the school. They used various herbs to make an All Purpose ointment to benefit needy

community members who cannot afford professional doctors hence inequality

University of Limpopo for collaboration and skill learning, partnership for out reach programmes and usage of their IT resources hence the school is poor

More lessons from Unilm students about project that the school can use to bridge the gap between

the have and the have not in the community

Practical work in the garden to learn more about herbs and to choose herbs that can make an oitmnet to benefit the nill

healthy needy community members to bridge inequality

Herb harvesting in preparation of the project

Searching for more information from Khan Academy and some other engines that talks

about diseases

Preparing herbs and cooking the ointment in the lab with learners ,future

Project Description

What are the stated objectives and learning outcomes? Is the learning activity long-term? Does it call on students to plan their work and assess their work over time?

Knowledge Building & Critical Thinking

How will students be required to move beyond reproducing what they have learned to building knowledge through interpretation, analysis, synthesis, or evaluation

Design of the Learning Environment

Emphasize towhat extent the planning for learning facilitates the development of different dimensions of 21st century skills

Evidence of Learning

E.g. will ICT use enable new knowledge-building/collaboration/learning beyond the classroom opportunities that would not have been possible without it?

Extended Learning Beyond the Classroom

The learning activity should address real world issues (i.e. authentic situation and data) or has meaningful impact on communities locally and / or globally.

Educator as Innovator and Change Agent

Try to promote creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness that advances student learning, creativity and innovation.

•Learners were able to set their objectives and achieved their learning outcomes through technology and didactic

•Learners were encourage to think critically when the educators requested them to come up with a project that will address socio economic challenges order to narrow the gap between the have and have not• By collaborating with community members,

University lectures and sudents, educators, local doctors and parents, educator wanted learners to take the learning activity beyond the classroom to benefit all

•Getting to the University and interact with lectures, inviting University students to motivate them and studying the field of medicine while in primary school would not have been possible if this Microsoft PBL approach was not pursued. They built and gained more knowledge in medicinal field and have taken learning and skills far beyond the classroom

•By engaging learners in the field of medicines and request them to come up with a project that will assist in narrowing the gap between the have and the have not, made learners to think critical and working hard to meet the objective. In this project they learnt how to analyze, interpret, synthesize and evaluate (explore, read and understand, create and price through ALL PURPOSE OINTMENT)

Through the knowledge that they built and innovative thinking that they have, they were able to come up with a project that benefited the community (addressed real life situation issue diseases)

Their project has a meaningful impact to the lives of community members and outside people hence their product is sold to community members

They also contributed to the eight Millennium Development Goals with regard to health and poverty issues

Educator as innovator and change agentPromotion of creativity and critical thinking by engaging learners in medicinal fields while still in primary school is innovation

Inventiveness that advance students learning by creating an ALL PURPOSE ointment to be used by people who cannot access professional doctors due to poverty

Creativity and innovative learning that will inspire learners to become scientists, doctors, researcher, environmentalist qualifies a teacher to be a changing agent

Professor Jansen said “Lets teach the value of education, Educators can change the life's of learners”.

Learning is an active process, we learn by doing …. Only knowledge that is used sticks in our minds” Dailey Carnegie (He support the PBL approach)

“The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches but to reveal to him his own” Benjamin Disraeli
