What are mulCvitamins? As humans, we require certain vitamins and minerals in order to be healthy and we usually get the ones we need from our diets; from fruit and salads to even those super-‐greasy (but oh so tasty) burgers! The problem that many of us face is that we don’t eat enough of the right types of food that contain these vitamins and minerals so we don’t actually get enough of them and this is bad for our bodies as these vitamins and minerals allow us to grow normally and help us to prevent certain illnesses in the future (also known as “preventaCve healthcare”). So how do you make sure that you get all of those important vitamins and minerals? Well you could change the type of food that you eat, and we would highly recommend doing that, but for many this isn’t a sustainable soluCon, be it because of an uncontrollable love for fast food or simply allergies to certain foods. Therefore many turn to taking a mulCvitamin supplement, like Boost Buddy.
How much of each Vitamin do I need? There are many different types of vitamins and minerals and keeping track of exactly how much of each you need per day can be a very complicated task. Luckily, the helpful folks over at the European Food Safety Authority (also known as “EFSA”) have wriYen a bunch of helpful Recommended Daily Allowances (RDAs) that we can all follow to make sure that we meet (but do not exceed) healthy amounts of each vitamin and mineral. Have you ever seen a mulCvitamin pack contain a list of nutrients followed by percentage figures? Well, as you’ve probably already guessed, that figure is the percentage that you would receive each Cme you take the mulCvitamin, based on EFSA's RDAs.
What happens if I exceed my Recommended Daily Allowance?
Well it really depends. There are two types of vitamins: water-‐soluble vitamins and fat-‐soluble vitamins. When you digest too much of the first type, water-‐soluble vitamins, your body will remove the extra, unusable vitamins when you next go to the toilet which is a waste of your money however this can also be very problemaCc for your liver a^er a while as you are pu_ng it under unneeded pressure because your body will call it into acCon to handle these “extra” vitamins which, at this point, are actually toxins. The second type, the fat-‐soluble vitamins, are a liYle harder to remove from your body as they will stay in your body for longer and can cause more serious problems. EssenCally, if you exceed your RDA for any parCcular vitamin, you would be simply wasCng your money and placing unnecessary pressure on your liver as your body won't be able to use these extra vitamins and needs to remove them. Unfortunately it's not common knowledge that taking more than 100% of your RDA for vitamins can be bad for your health and we believe that this due to certain mulCvitamin products out there offering 150% or 200% (someCmes even more) of your RDA which encourages over consumpCon as we are generally taught that higher numbers mean higher value for money.
Capsules vs. Tablets
All Boost Buddy vitamins and minerals come in capsules, rather than tablets, for several reasons The first of which is that tablets need a special coat of sugar (or similar substance) to disguise the nasty taste that tablets naturally possess and this sugar coaCng actually prevents the vitamins and minerals from entering your blood stream quickly (not to menCon potenCally damaging your teeth) whereas capsules break up almost immediately Some studies have even shown that the Cme your body needs to break down a tablet is so lengthy that the tablet may have already entered your colon and, as such, your body may have missed out on the vitamins and minerals contained within that tablet. Many mulCvitamin companies choose to use tablets rather than capsules because they tend to be cheaper to manufacture and last longer on the shelves whereas, here at Boost Buddy, we always use capsules as they are easier to swallow and are much more effecCve at releasing the important vitamins and minerals into your body.
Introducing our new Vitamin Boosts (we've put a lot of work into these!)
