About This Event The certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt represents the culmination of your Lean Six Sigma training. Black Belts are expected to identify process improvement initiatives, lead projects, and coach Green / Yellow Belts. This 2 week training program covers advanced Lean Six Sigma principles, tools, and techniques. The core focus is under-standing full DMAIC process through exercises (individual and group). Candidates should bring laptops and calculators in order to complete statistical exercises. An approved project is required as part of the certification. Instructor will coach / advise Black Belt candidates throughout the project and evaluate the project. Green Belt certification is a pre-requisite.
Learning Objectives • Lean Six Sigma Overview / DMAIC Framework: Philosophy, goals & objectives,
structure, organization. • Technical Tools: Statistical Process Control, Statistical Methods & Sampling,
Gage R&R, Expanded Distributions for Continuous and Discrete Data, Control Charts for Continuous (X Bar R, Xbar S, I-MR) and Discrete Data (p, np, c, u), Linear and Multiple Regression, Correlation, ANOVA, Hypothesis Testing, FMEA, Value Stream Mapping, Probability Plots, Reliability, Design of Experiments.
• Project Management Skills Project Identification and Chartering, Project Management, Team and Facilitation Techniques.
• Financial Concepts: Cost of Poor Quality, ROI, Payback, Break-Even Analysis.
Other Details • Project: An approved project must be completed by the Black Belt candidate that
demonstrates knowledge of the LSS process and techniques. The project must produce meaningful, quantifiable results (i.e., cost savings, incremental revenue, customer satisfaction improvement, etc.).
• Analytical Software Package: Participants will be required to purchase Quantum XL to conduct statistical and DOE analysis during class. $549 license fee (no markup) in addition to training cost.
• Exam: The Black Belt exam will be conducted on the last day of training. Minimum passing grade is 80%.

About the Facilitator
Peter J. Sherman
Managing Partner
Riverwood Associates
Peter Sherman has over 20 years experi-
ence successfully leading Lean Six Sigma
programs. He is a Certified Lean Six Sigma
Master Black Belt, ASQ Certified Quality
Engineer, and APICS Certified Supply Chain
Professional.
From 2010-14, Peter served as Director of
Process Excellence for Cbeyond Communi-
cations, a publicly-traded, $500M revenue
telecommunications provider, based in
Atlanta, GA. Previously, Peter was a Master
Black Belt with AT&T’s Product Develop-
ment Group for 10 years.
Peter began his career in Japan as a visiting
M.I.T. Scholar in 1986-87. There he worked
with Dr. Edwards Deming, the noted
American Quality expert and learned
Japanese quality practices, including the
Toyota Production System and Kaizen.
Peter served as Lead Instructor at Emory
University's Six Sigma Certificate Program
in Atlanta from 2008 -11. He also served
on the iSixSigma Editorial Advisory Board
from 2010—2011. Peter has authored
more than 60 articles on Lean, Six Sigma,
and quality.
Peter holds a B.S. in Building Construction
from the University of Florida, a Master's in
Civil Engineering from M.I.T. and an MBA
from Georgia State University. He is a
member of APICS and Senior Member of
the ASQ.
