Gastrointestinal Canal
The gastrointetinal
tract is a long tube from mouth to anus
through which food passes
Various secretions and
enzymes are poured into the tube to
break down food

The epithelium
(lining) is just 1 cell thick
The goblet cells produce a
protective mucosa (mucus)

Leaky gut happens when the gut’s mucosal, semipermeable intestinal lining becomes damaged
and more permeable, more like a fishing net
This may allow long chains of unbroken down
food, toxins and pathogens that should never be in the blood stream to pass right through the gut wall into
the bloodstream
The body senses these foreign particles as invadors
which creates an immune response, inflammation and food
sensitivities. Some of these particles may even excape through the blood-brain barrier (if compromised)
The intestinal lining should be like a
pair of tights, just letting through small particles of
broken down food that the body recognises into the
blood stream
Oftentimes it is the foods that we are eating on
a regular basis - that are constantly breaking through into
the bloodsteam where they shouldn’t be - that we become intolerant to.

What can contribute to a leaky gut / intestinal permeability?
• Antibiotics• NSAIDs (pain killers)• High carbohydrate diet• Fungal overgrowth / parasites• Low stomach acid• Reduced liver function• STRESS!• Infection, trauma• High levels of toxin exposure• Reduced adrenal function (stress)• Underproduction of digestive enzymes (stress)

alternating bowel movements• IBS - bloating• Fatigue• Hives/Skin rash / skin
conditions• Food intolerances• headaches / micraine• Arthritis• Asthma
Mental• Brain fog• Aggression• PMT• Low Mood• Poor mental health• Low immunity• Frequent infections
Mood• Low mood• Confusion• Forgetfulness• Binge eating• Anorexia
Only 70% of people with Leaky gut have sympsoms
