Overview
The Digital Leadership Academy is designed with consideration to the needs of school
administrators. Through the Digital Leadership Academy, school administrators learn about digital
tools and strategies which can assist in developing technology leadership, as well as, in evaluating
effective educational technology integration. The culminating goal of the academy is to ensure that
technology use is meaningful and impactful in school settings.
Academy Design
We value your time and know that you are busy professionals. Learning opportunities are differentiated,
and participants decide how they want to progress.
Classes are differentiated: face-to-face, online, article studies, webinars, demonstration tasks,
and performance tasks
Administrators will be awarded a new Touch Screen Chromebook for completing 14 CPE hours.
The application is online: bit.ly/2HHmLr4. You must apply.
Classes start June 6th and will run throughout the 2018-2019 school year.
All class registration is through Eduphoria Workshop.
Required Attendance and Course Work
School administrators must agree to attend the Fort Worth ISD Technology Conference on Saturday,
January 26, 2019 at Southwest High School.
School administrators must receive a minimum of two hours of professional learning in digital
citizenship.
Class Format Digital Leadership Academy (DLA) professional learning class format includes: lab training, online
learning, article studies, webinars, demonstration tasks, and leadership performance tasks that school
administrators through digital integration. The 2018-2019 Digital Leadership Academy begins June 6,
2018 and ends April 26, 2019. Choose from various opportunities outlined below. Registration is
available via Eduphoria Workshop.
Article Study Energize your mind by reading and engaging in digital leadership related articles. Article studies are comprised of pre-selected articles. The readings are accompanied by an online quiz and discussion forum. There are several articles available.
Campus-based Engage your teachers in discovering ways to incorporate technology as an instructional tool in the classroom and merge content, pedagogy, and technology. Various training topics are available. Contact your Technology Learning Coach or Karla Lester for more information.
Conference Choose what you want to learn. Participate in an instructional technology-focused conference. Gather with like-minded colleagues to learn, share, and grow your digital leadership strengths.
Demonstration Tasks and Performance Tasks
Apply and implement what you learn during the academy. Demonstration tasks and performance tasks, if completed, will count towards CPE hours and the Digital Leadership Technology Badges.
eCourse/Online Class Participate in online learning at your convenience. During eCourses, all course materials and assignments are accessed through the web. Participants work at their own pace without an instructor. Each eCourse requires online demonstration of learning (submission of product) and participation in discussion boards.
Lab Training Practice as you learn. Lab classes are 2-hour learning opportunities that take place in a computer lab. Participants are able to learn, practice, and implement during these sessions.
Webinar Webinars are quick online learning opportunities that are completed from home, office, or anywhere with Internet access. These webinars are 30-minute sessions that focus on tools and strategies that can be integrated into your work life.

A technology professional learning badging system was implemented to encourage and document
technology professional learning and implementation among district employees. As participants
complete a series of classes and tasks, they will be awarded a certificate and digital copy of a badge.
In Eduphoria, the employee is awarded a professional development level on their transcript.
Purpose of Badges We want to recognize staff that attend training (Level 1 Badge) and recognize staff that demonstrate
and implement what they learn by completing work-related tasks (Level 2 and Level 3 Badges).
These badges are meant to signify an accomplishment and our hope is that other staff will be even
more motivated to engage in digital leadership.
(Level 1) Training (Awareness)
(Level 2) Demonstration (Praxis-demonstration of learning)
(Level 3) Accomplished (Phronesis-Decision-making, performance and implementation)
Participants in the Digital Leadership Academy will earn the Digital Leadership Badge Levels 1, 2,
and/or 3. Badge levels can overlap for digital leaders. For example: completing a training will earn
points towards the level 1 badge and demonstrating through performance will earn points towards the
level 2 badge. The level 3 badge requires decision-making, school-wide performance, and
implementation.

I.S.T.E. Standards for Education Leaders International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)
The ISTE standards for education leaders include six focus areas: equity and citizenship advocacy,
visionary planner, empowering leader, systems designer, and connected learner. The ISTE
Standards for Education Leaders envisions school leaders as the leaders of technology planning and
implementation at the schools they serve.
1. Equity and Citizenship Advocate
Leaders use technology to increase equity, inclusion, and digital citizenship practices.
Education leaders:
a. Ensure all students have skilled teachers who actively use technology to meet student
learning needs.
b. Ensure all students have access to the technology and connectivity necessary to
participate in authentic and engaging learning opportunities.
c. Model digital citizenship by critically evaluating online resources, engaging in civil
discourse online and using digital tools to contribute to positive social change.
d. Cultivate responsible online behavior, including the safe, ethical and legal use of
technology.
2. Visionary Planner
Leaders engage others in establishing a vision, strategic plan and ongoing evaluation cycle for
transforming learning with technology. Education leaders:
a. Engage education stakeholders in developing and adopting a shared vision for using
technology to improve student success, informed by the learning sciences.
b. Build on the shared vision by collaboratively creating a strategic plan that articulates
how technology will be used to enhance learning.
c. Evaluate progress on the strategic plan, make course corrections, measure impact and
scale effective approaches for using technology to transform learning.
d. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather input on the plan, celebrate
successes and engage in a continuous improvement cycle.
e. Share lessons learned, best practices, challenges and the impact of learning with
technology with other education leaders who want to learn from this work.
3. Empowering Learner
Leaders create a culture where teachers and learners are empowered to use technology in
innovative ways to enrich teaching and learning. Education leaders:
a. Empower educators to exercise professional agency, build teacher leadership skills and
pursue personalized professional learning.
b. Build the confidence and competency of educators to put the ISTE Standards for
Students and Educators into practice.
c. Inspire a culture of innovation and collaboration that allows the time and space to
explore and experiment with digital tools.
d. Support educators in using technology to advance learning that meets the diverse
learning, cultural, and social-emotional needs of individual students.
