WELCOME THE PROGRAM

The Randall L. Tobias Center for Leadership Excellence at Indiana University engages

multiple sectors on both the practice and theory of leadership, distinguishing its agenda

among leadership programs nationwide. The Center disseminates knowledge about

leadership through a variety of programs and practical research. We believe that

research is most relevant when it is informed by practice, and that practice is most

effective when it is informed by research.

The Leadership Engagement and Discovery (LEAD) Conference explores leadership in a

wide range of contexts, encompassing leadership in business, government, education,

medical, non-profit, and other communities.

The Tobias Leadership Center’s commitment to the practical application of scholarship

serves to create a distinctive conference environment. Scholars from around the nation

conduct leading-edge research and offer innovative curricula and teaching strategies – and

share their findings at the conference. The work of renowned practitioners is partnered

with this scholarship, which leads to stimulating original thought and ensures utility for the

Center’s activities.

The Tobias Leadership Center is a University-wide entity that is located at the Kelley

School of Business on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

Our cross-sectoral work includes close collaboration with the four IU schools with

which we have partnered since our founding: Kelley School of Business, the Lilly Family

School of Philanthropy, the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA), and the

School of Education.

The $5.25 million that Ambassador Tobias donated to Indiana University to create the

Center that bears his name is the largest gift made by the Randall L. Tobias Foundation. The

Center is an appropriate legacy for the Ambassador, given that it inspires excellence in lead-

ership education and practice across sectors. The Leadership Engagement and Discovery

(LEAD) Conference is sponsored by the Randall L. Tobias Center for Leadership Excellence.
