Le Travaillant Cajun music that brings the Bayou down by you Le Travaillant plays Cajun music, the dance music of French-speaking Louisiana - perfect for Mardi Gras, crawfish boils, or any other occasion that needs au- thentic Louisiana atmosphere. e phrase “Le Travaillant” is Cajun French for “the working man,” and its members have a great time liv- ing up to that name, playing long sets of upbeat two- steps and waltzes that keep feet energetically moving on the dance floor. e hard-working men behind the sound are Sean Colledge (accordions, vocals), Ethan Sellers (guitar, vocals), Dorian Gehring (fiddles), Jake Samson (bass), and Pat Buzby (drums). Dance instructor Monica Vachlon can teach audience members how to waltz and two-step. Sean comes from a large French Creole family from New Orleans and was inspired to pick up the accor- dion by Nathan Abshire, Alphonse “Bois Sec” Ardoin, and the Balfa Brothers. Cajun music is a family affair for Dorian, first in the audience of his father Stewart’s shows with the Cajun Aces and then together in the Cajun Vagabonds. Le Travaillant has played the greater Chicagoland area and venues and events throughout the midwest, in- cluding Chicago’s NOLA Fest, Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest, Buddy Guy’s Legends, Chicago Botanic Gardens, Ron’s Cajun Connection, Heaven on Seven, Red Line Tap, Kalamazoo College, Wilmette Center for the Arts, and more. Le Travaillant holds a monthly (second Friday of the month) residency at the Maple Tree Inn Restaurant in Blue Island.
