Pour sa trente troisième édition, le Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes va hisser haut le pavillon du yachting. Des nouveautés encore des nouveautés. Et ce, malgré la

crise qui souffle sur les marchés financiers et l’économie mondiale. “La crise a poussé les chantiers à se remettre en cause. Ils ne sont pas restés en cale sèche et ont su faire preuve d’un dynamisme hors du commun pour proposer de nouveaux produits”, note Eric de Saintdo, le commissaire général du Festival. Et même si le monde des bateaux n’a bien sûr pas pu échapper en totalité à cette tempête, jamais il n’a renoncé à son essence même : la passion. Car que ce soit du côté des constructeurs ou des clients, c’est bien de passion et d’enthousiasme qu’il s’agit. Pour preuve, le bateau de demain est déjà à flot, et se découvre à mille et un détails : ici des panneaux solaires, là des moteurs hybrides, plus loin un design épuré, ailleurs des carènes ultra modernes. Fini le luxe intempestif, la frime pour la frime. Les yachts ont retrouvé le pied marin, et ses skippers le plaisir de naviguer.

L’élégance des flots est reine dans tous les domaines. Et s’il est désormais moins question de taille, c’est la beauté qui compte. Un luxe désormais réfléchi. Résultat : le bien-

être à bord devient le maître mot. Il ne s’agit plus de fabriquer des bateaux pour aller vite mais pour vivre bien. Témoin : ces intérieurs qui ressemblent à s’y méprendre à ceux des villas

For its thirty-third year, the Cannes Boat and Yacht Show is going to be hoisting the yachting flag high. New models and more new

models…and that’s despite the crisis blowing through the financial markets and global economy. “The crisis has impelled the shipyards to challenge themselves. They didn’t remain in dry dock, but instead

succeeded in demonstrating extraordinary dynamism so as to be able to offer new models,” notes the show’s manager, Eric de Saintdo. And even if the boating world was unable to entirely escape the storm, it never gave up its very essence: passion; for whether you are a boatbuilder or a boat buyer, passion and enthusiasm is what it is all about. By way of proof, the boat of tomorrow is already in the water, revealing itself in a thousand and one details: here the solar panels, there the hybrid engines, a little farther on a refined design, elsewhere ultramodern hulls. No more excessive luxury, showing off just for the sake of it. Yachts have got their sea legs once again, and their skippers the pleasure of sailing.

The elegance of the waves is queen in every domain and beauty has taken

on more importance than size; a luxury is now carefully considered. The upshot: well-being aboard has become the watchword. It is no longer about building boats to go

fast, but to live well. Witness: interiors you could mistake for opulent villas, places you can welcome family and friends, but above all areas where the decor can be changed to suit the mood or the wind. So, instead of owning a country house, we opt for a vessel knowing how to take sail in all kinds of weather. Gone are the days when owning a motor yacht was equated with being a polluter. Even “sailors” have opted for boats without masts; that just shows you! What remains is the pleasure one gets, over and over.

Bref, le Carpe Diem sur la grande bleue n’a jamais été aussi tendance. Pour peu que l’on sache fermer les écoutilles aux oiseaux de mauvais augure. Car après tout, si c’est le moment d’acheter un bien immobilier c’est peut-être aussi celui de céder à ses envies…d’ailleurs.

Alors, il faut se balader à Cannes, arpenter les pontons pour y découvrir cette année ce que les chantiers ont réservé de meilleur. Car c’est ici, dans ce Festival de la Plaisance, que se dévoile la fine fleur du yachting. Sur 500 bateaux à flot, on compte cette année 139 nouveautés dont beaucoup de “premières mondiales”

slowdown the market and dampen the dreams of some, many are aware that they have only one life to live. And it is during that life, having reached a certain prime, they are going to be able finally to enjoy it. In short, Carpe Diem on the big blue has never been trendier, if you know how to batten down the hatches against the doomsayers. Because after all, if this is the moment to buy property it is perhaps the moment as well to give in to our desires….

So, a trip to the Cannes Boat and Yacht Show is a must to explore the docks and discover the best of

what they shipyards have in store this year. Because it is here that the cream of yachting is revealed. Out of 500 boats displayed in water this year 139 are new models, including many “world premières” between 10 and 50 metres. Cannes is still the place where dreams can come true: from the pleasure boat to the yacht of your life, there is something for every taste and every budget. For the boats built are increasingly affordable and in keeping with the demands of sustainable development. Like the Arcadia 85 conceived by Francesco Guida right in the middle of the crisis, totally modernist and ultra-comfortable, its roof is equipped with solar panels that provide 25% of the energy on board. New shipyards have appeared as well, like Monte Carlo Yachts, which is unveiling at Cannes its 76 footer by Nuvolari&Lenard. The Turkish shipyards are also in the spotlight, capable of presenting large vessels with impeccable finishing. Out of 400 exhibitors, 100 are newcomers, all of them very keen to show a wide range of products. Proof once again of the dynamism of the sector! Yes, but

entre 10 et 50 mètres. C’est encore à Cannes que toutes les envies peuvent se concrétiser: de la promenade, au yacht pour la vie, il y en a pour tous les goûts et toutes les bourses. Car les constructions sont de plus en plus abordables et s’accordent avec les impératifs du développement durable. Comme l’Arcadia 85 imaginé en plein cœur de la crise par Francesco Guida, totalement moderniste et ultra-confortable et dont le toit est équipé de panneaux solaires qui assurent 25% de l’énergie à bord. De nouveaux chantiers apparaissent aussi comme Monte Carlo Yachts qui présente en avant première à Cannes son 76 pieds signé Nuvolari&Lenard. Les chantiers turcs sont également en vedette, capables de présenter de grandes unités à la finition irréprochable. Sur 400 exposants, 100 sont de nouveaux venus. Et tous ont à cœur d’y montrer

une gamme de produits étendue. Preuve encore une fois du dynamisme du secteur ! Mais aussi de celui des organisateurs du salon qui ont sillonné la planète pour présenter à Cannes ce qui se fait de mieux. “Car en pleine crise il faut savoir créer l’envie”, affirme Eric de Saintdo.

Cette année le salon accueille ainsi deux nouveaux espaces. A l’entrée principale,côté l’Espace Riviera avec les Tenders de luxe (8 à

Thus this year the show is hosting two new exhibition areas. At the main entrance, on the Espace Riviera side

is an area dedicated to luxury tenders (8 to 14 metres). And opposite is the area dedicated to “Performance” i.e. speedboats or what we call in French “cigarette” type models, 100% pleasure and sport. The idea comes from the Miami show where these boats are popular and reflect on the part of the customers a desire to indulge themselves at the height of the crisis. These “sea Ferrari” make it possible for you to go from Cannes to Saint-Tropez for lunch with a bunch of friends. As for the Multihull section, it has been expanded to meet the growing interest in these highly-prized vessels, pleasant for sailing in the islands. From 28 multihulls in 2009, the show is hosting 37 this year.

But let’s not forget the secondhand boats either, apable of meeting the desires of a great majority.

In Port Pierre Canto, there are forty yachts over 22 metres brought by the market’s leading brokers: Camper&Nicholsons, Ocean Independence, Yachting Partners, International Yacht Collection, as well as brokers from the Côte d’Azur who are showing splendid yachts between 30 and 50 metres.

one choice in the world of boat shows. Aware it is here that they can meet their foreign customers in an ultra-privileged way, the shipyards have responded with their presence. The Italians are here, the French as well. “Cannes is a business show that people make the effort to travel to even from afar. They’re here, it’s the end of the summer, they’ve sailed, and they’ve come to discover the new models, dreaming of their plans for the future. They can even try the boats out around the Lérins Islands. Out of the 60,000 visitors, many come to refine their plan or quite simply to get it started,” explains Eric de Saintdo, for whom Cannes remains “a magical place where desire is created”. So let’s get aboard the show, to desire and make our dreams come true. Cast off and set course for the passion of pleasure boating!

Au Port Pierre Canto, ils sont 40 d’une taille supérieure à 22 mètres amenés par les plus grands brokers de la place : Camper&Nicholsons, Ocean Independence, Yachting Partners, International Yacht Collection, sans oublier les brokers de la Côte d’Azur qui présentent des unités splendides entre 30 et 50 mètres.

Cannes confirme donc sa place de premier choix dans le monde des salons de la plaisance. Conscients que c’est là qu’ils peuvent rencontrer de façon ultra privilégiée leurs clients étrangers, les chantiers ont répondu présents. Les italiens sont là. Les français aussi. “Cannes est un salon d’affaires pour lequel on se déplace de loin. On est à la fin de l’été, on a navigué, et on vient découvrir les nouveautés en rêvant aux projets suivants. On peut même essayer les bateaux autour des îles de Lérins. Sur les 60.000 visiteurs, nombreux sont ceux qui viennent peaufiner leur projet ou le démarrer tout simplement”, explique Eric de Saintdo, pour qui Cannes reste “un lieu magique où l’on y crée le désir”.
