Civilization
There are certain theories regarding decline of Indus valley civilization
as follow :-
Flood :- It is assumed by many hisorians that due to flood in Indus
and its tributaries this civilization came to end .
Foreign Invansions :- Some historians argue that it came to end
due to sudden invansions of Aryans. As people of this
Civilization did not involve in wars
Change in course of river :- Due to this people of Indus left with
no water for drinking and irrigation which affected the lives of
people

Following are the causes which led Ashoka a great Ruler :-
As a Conqueror :-
1. Kashmir victory - According to kalhan's Rajtarangini his
first most expedition took place in Kashmir and establish
srinagar .
2. Kalinga victory - In 261 B.C. he fought kalinga war for
increasing ties with southern part .
As an able administrator :-
1. According to 2nd
inscription of Ashoka (kalinga) he treats his
subject as his descendant / child .
2. For administrative convenience , he divided his kingdom
mainly into five provinces , also took aid & advice of
minister for serving masses .
As a social reformer :-
1. For welfare work , he constructed many roads , public
buildings , wells , canal & lakes for irrigation .
2. Socially he emphasize more on non-violence principle and
reduce the harsh punishment , he also prohibited animal
sacrifice and emphasize on purity of behaviour .
As apropagator of Buddhism :-
1. Dhamma yatra :- He travelled almost all important places of
buddha's life like Lumbini , Bodhgaya etc and constructed
stupas here .
2. Congregation of 3rd
Buddhist council :- At Patliputra in
chairmanship of Moggaliputa tissa .
3. Patronage of art :- He built many stupas & caves around
84000 stupas were constructed .

Describe the measures adopted by Ashoka to prapogate
Buddhism?
Ashoka was one of the prominent ruler of Mauryan dynasty who not
only extended frontiers but also Propagated Buddhism on non-violent
principles . Following are the measures adopetd by Ashoka :-
Establishment of Dhamma Department :- For this he appointed
Dhamma Mahamatras whose objective is to serve masses .
As a state religion :- Ashoka made Buddhism as a state religion
which inspire his subject & successors to adopt Buddhism .
Encouragment to Dhamma Yatra :- Which intiates people to go
Buddha related places .
Organised Buddhist council :- He organised 3rd
Buddhist council
at Patliputra many people came to join it and promoted Buddha
religion .
Propagated Buddhism in foregin country :- For this he sent
Mahendra (son) & Sanghmitra (daughter) to Srilanka ,
Maharakshit to Greek , Rakshita to Varansi , etc Which
propagated Buddhism .
Use of Local Dialect :- He also translated many text of Buddhism
