CHALLENGES AND GOALS OF EUROPEAN UNION

POTENTIAL SOLUTION

• Most buildings are ‘sub-standard’ in terms of energy efficiency: they have minimum or no thermal protection. Buildings are one of the largest consumers of energy. In European Union existing buildings are responsible for more than 40 % of global energy use. Goal: reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

• Concrete is the most widely used material while concrete industry is the largest consumer of natural resources and one of the largest waste producers. Additionally concrete industry has large impact on the environment. Huge potential for the reduction of the environmental impact and consumption of the natural resources is in reusing of construction and demolition waste.Goal: increase the efficiency use of available resources i.e. increase the reuse of construction and demolition waste.

As one possible innovative solution in concrete industry that unifies and solves problems of energy efficiency of the buildings and construction and demolition waste is ECO-SANDWICH®.

WHAT IS ECO-SANDWICH®?

• Prefabricated facade wall panel

• It is made of two precast concrete layers with recycled aggregate (inner and outer layer): 50% of aggregate is made of recycled aggregate from construction and demolition waste

• It uses the layer of mineral wool produced with Ecose® technology, free of toxic chemicals

• Layer of ventilated air is placed between the layer of thermal insulation and the outer facade layer
