With work on the i360 expected to be completeby summer 2016, Rachel Clark of the West PierTrust claimed that construction of the observationtower would help build interest in the pier.

Fresh back from the jump of a lifetime, Kate and Hannah have their feet firmly on the ground after their sky dive for
the Rocking Horse Appeal.An early morning start meant they were first
in the queue to jump the knuckle-whitening12,000ft from an aeroplane, strapped to a braveinstructor. Already labelled ‘the ladies that leap’by the course leader (due to their leaps ofdelight before the jump), they fast becameknown as the most excitable in the group andwere banned from any further caffeine hits.
After a slight ‘thick cloud’ delay, they werethen crammed into the aeroplane with six othernervous jumpers, taking ten minutes to reachjumping point but knowing full well it was notgoing to take that long to get back down again.
Hannah was last in, so first out. There was no time for argument as the door was opened, and out she went, her screams to be heard by the others left on the plane.
First in, so last out of the plane was Kate,already having seen Hannah plummet to theground and left to follow her lead. Again, no time to argue, she was taken from dizzying heights toground zero in a flash, barely able to gasp forbreath before landing back on solid ground.
Once over, they’d raised nearly £1,500 for theappeal with funds kindly donated by fellow workcolleagues and friends, and also benevolentstrangers whilst they were waiting to jump. In the pub, post-jump (a sherry was needed to calm the adrenaline), both Kate and Hannah were overwhelmed by the kindness

and generosity shown in support of the event.Asked if they would do it again, both readily
said ‘yes’, without hesitation, but they are hopingto ‘up’ their daring for the next event (any ideasgreatly received!).

The way you register to vote is changingacross the UK. In Brighton and Hove, around60,000 residents may need to take action to
join the new register, even if they were registeredin the past.
We are writing to local residents to tell themabout the change. You could be one of the 60,000who need to re-register, so it’s important that youlook out for a letter between 14 and 23 July thatwill tell you if need to take action.
About the changeThe registration system changed in June 2014,and it’s the biggest change to the voterregistration system in 100 years: the new systemis called ‘Individual Electoral Registration’.Previously, the ‘head of household’ wasresponsible for registering everyone who lived atan address, but now every individual isresponsible for their own voter registration. Thenew system means that for the first time peopleare now able to register online atwww.gov.uk/register-to-vote. To register, you willneed to provide a few more details, including yourNational Insurance number and date of birth. Thishelps make the electoral register more secure.
Most people who are already registered havebeen transferred automatically to the newregister. However, around 60,000 will need to re-register in the Brighton and Hove area. There arealso people in the area who are not registered tovote at all, and so need to register to have theirsay in elections.

along to buy the next door flat andthey seized it, expanding their onebedroom garden flat, and aftergaining planning permission,converting the space into a muchlarger two bedroom, two bathroomapartment. Although delighted withend result, they still felt that therewas something they weren’t makingthe most of. This turned out to be anunder-used patio to the rear, leading
on to their much-loved garden.Fiona tells the story: “We decided
that we would like to lose the patioand build a completely newextension that would overlook ourwest facing garden, which has lotsof light all day and lovely light in theevenings. We found 360 Homethrough the person who did ourplanning and permissions. She hadseen an ad for them and wecontacted them to find out exactlythe kind of service they offered. Wethen met and chatted through ourplans, as well as looking at theirprevious jobs. We were immediatelypleased and keen to proceed. “This applied to the entire teamand the company have clearly takena lot of care in choosing people whoreflect their brand image. There wasno time-wasting either, just gettingon with the job in a professionalmanner.
“Karl always kept us informed ofany alterations to plans and wenever had to worry – so much sothat our friends were sick of usgoing on about how good he was!
“When it came to a schedule ofworks, Karl quoted three to fiveweeks. The job went over a little, butnot because of Karl. We lost a littletime for the polished concreteflooring that we had specified. Andwhen the job was complete, he dealt
with the few hiccups withoutquestion; nothing was a problem.The finish was excellent and the tinyamount of snagging was dealt withinstantly – at one time within anhour.
“As for budget, he quoted a priceand stuck to it and this was exactlywhat was charged. We asked for oneextra plug socket, and that was theonly extra that was added to ourfinal bill.
“We would love him and the 360Home team to come and doeverything we want in the future,and we would not hesitate to usethem again and recommend them toothers.
“Our plan has been executed wellbeyond our hopes. The patio was
never used and because our gardenis so quiet, the new room with thewide-opening bifold doors brings thegarden into our living space andunites them. The view and the feel ofthe new space is great and Tom canwork easily from home in our new‘work and study’ area.”

A s estate agents, we are acutely aware of the need to understand and assist with some of the frustrations involved in the moving process.
One of the most immediate irritations which buyers face is the fact that a property, which they had hoped might still be available, has in fact sold. This is one of those things which can make people mad with estate agents, and can be difficult to overcome.
On one hand our job is to expose a property to the market using the most effective methods at our disposal. This could take the form of a “For Sale” board, advertisements in the local property newspaper, a stronginternet presence and a proactive approach to keeping registered buyers fully informed about properties which are new on the market. And of course, if we do our job well, then the property should sell relatively quickly –sometimes even in a matter of days.
However, due to the relatively drawn-out legal process of property transferwe enjoy in this country, it would be foolhardy instantly to withdraw allreference to a property which has just gone under offer, as having a back-upbuyer is one of the most effective ways of speeding up a sale and providing the comfort of an “insurance policy” should the original sale fall through.
A good agent will probably only carry a relatively small amount of property for sale. If it’s still for sale then it hasn’t sold, and this is almostalways down to an inflated asking price.
So if you are a purchaser, there may be some reassurance in buying through an agency who has more “sold” than “for sale” stickers in theirwindow. It probably means they are an agency which is actually very good at helping people move!
