OBJECTIVES
1 To be able to showcase their talents and skills in dancing.
2 To create an atmosphere that will foster camaraderie and unity among the HSI community.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Dance Competition is now an annual event every Lasallian days. With this centennial year of De
La Salle, this year’s competition tries to keep at par with last year’s street dance competition. Itnow comes with a boom with its new genre – “Modern dance”. Every members of the De La
Salle Health Sciences community will have the chance to showcase their prized talents and to
perform their most creative choreography. This is the perfect time not just only to see the other
side of the members of the DLSHS community but also to foster camaraderie and live La Sallian
spirit.

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
1 Minimal Costs in terms of stage design and no
rental fee
1 Different colors of lights cannot be used.

GUIDELINES
1. Each group shall be composed of a minimum of 5 dancers up to a maximum of 20 dancers.
Members of the groups may be composed of all males or females, or any combination thereof. 3
points are deducted if there are excess or deficient in number of participants.
2. No outsiders or professional dancer/s should be part of the group. Automatic disqualification in
the contest if the group fails to follow.
3. The group must be at the contest area on time. Failure to come on time will receive 1 pint
deduction to the total score. However, for the group who comes late and unable to perform on
their respective performance time will be removed from the contest.
4. Order of performances will be based on the number they had picked prior to the contest.
5. Groups must bring the music of their choice on a standard CD - no cassette tapes allowed, no live
band or musicians allowed. It should be submitted 1 week prior to the event. There should be a
back-up copy in case the submitted music fails to play.
6. Music should be wholesome and lively and must not contain any subliminal, sexually suggestive,and vulgar lyrics/ language.
7. The music must be at least three (3) minutes but not more than five (5) minutes. Any excess in
time will have 1 point deduction/ min to the total score.
8. Participation in the event is entirely at the dancers’ own risk. Performance of dangerous
choreography will not be reflected favorably in the scoring.
9. Use of props will be allowed as long as it will not cause any delay in the program and any harm to
the performance of other groups. Props such as oil, confetti, pyrotechnic gadgets, smoke
generators or combustible material, broken glass, live animals, sharp objects and the like are
prohibited.
10. Choreography should not be vulgar and must not contain any subliminal or sexually suggestive
act.
11. Participation in the event is entirely at the dancers’ own risk. Performance of dangerous
choreography will not be reflected favorably in the scoring.
12. Attire may include accessories such hats, caps, gloves, scarves, jewelries, etc. Removing pieces of
clothing during the performance is allowed provided that it is not offensive or out of character.
13. Appropriate clothing should be observed throughout the competition.
14. The top 3 winners will be the top 3 dance group with the 3 highest total scores.
15. If there is a tie in each winner group, a tie‐breaker round is required to determine the winners.
16. Judges for the competition should not be related or closely affiliated with any contestant. They
are also refrained from talking to any contestant at anytime especially regarding with the
competition and judging per se.
17. Prompting of competitors from the backstage or from the audience is not allowed. All
participants should conduct themselves in a manner displaying good sportsmanship throughoutthe competition. Any demonstration of unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification.
18. Failure to comply with any of the foregoing rules and conditions will result to disqualification (for
the following rules without corresponding deductions)
19. Judges decision is final and irrevocable.
Criteria for judging:
A. CONTENT. – 30%
1. Variety of dance positions, dance movements, and/or combinations as appropriate to the specific
dance.
2. Difficulty of dance movements and/or combinations from one dance position or alignment to another.3. Uniqueness or originality of dance movements and/or combinations from one dance position or
alignment to another, to include presentation of dance position.
4. Continuity of dance movements and/or combinations to either interpret dance theme and music, or to
demonstrate dance control. This refers to exceptional phrasing which includes spontaneous adjustments
of dance pattern for irregularly phrased musical selections.
B. EXECUTION. – 30%
1. Basic pattern, rhythm, timing, and initial phrasing between partners and to the selected music. For
correctly phrased musical selections, phrasing may be shifted for momentary variation, but generally
should be maintained throughout the specific dance.
2. Proper performance of footwork, hand, head, arm, and body movements through dance variations; to
include balance and centering through executed movements.

3. Alignment, framework, and proper presentation of dance positions; to include smoothness of follow–
through from movement into position; to demonstrate properly initiated lead and follow technique from
position into movement.C. STYLE. – 30%
1. Artistic interpretation and choreography projected through dance movement as it relates to the
selected music and the specified dance category.
2. Attentiveness, enthusiasm, enjoyment of the dance, and general good partnership as perceived through
appropriate presentation of lead and follow roles.
3. Flair and accent of dance movement, generating an atmosphere and instilling a mood appropriate to
the specific dance category.
D. AUDIENCE IMPACT – 10% Total: 100%
