Lantern was launched at the Art Gallery of New South Wales on 4 June 2004. We wanted it to become a recognisable brand for Penguin Australia’s illustrated books and stated in the catalogue (more of a pamphlet then) that these would be books with personality and style matched with authority and credibility. I believe you can see by the backlist on page 75 that over the past ten years we have indeed achieved our goal and the Lantern list has grown and thrived in the most wonderful way. I wish to humbly thank every single person involved with this list including all authors, photographers, illustrators, editors, designers, proofreaders, stylists, recipe testers, production controllers, publicists, colour separators, printers, freight people, warehouse people, sales people, booksellers, members of the media, and countless others who have made it all possible. But there is one person I wish to single out who has been an integral part of this amazing journey from the beginning: our executive editor Alison Cowan, whose inspired contribution to many of our books has made them the very best they could be. Bless you and travel well.
