Situated in the heart of Cape Town with beautiful views of the wondrous Table Mountain is the Language Teaching Centre.

B e i n g a l a n g u a g e - b a s e d school, we offer English and in te rnat iona l l y recogn ised foreign language training. Our emphasis is on communicative teaching and we have an array of international and local clients attending our flexible and tailor-made programmes.

W i th a max imum o f e i gh t students per class, we take great pride in providing a quality education to every student with our highly-qualified teachers experienced in interacting with students from all nationalities.

Our courses go beyond teaching the students’ major language skills - such as listening, reading, speaking, grammar, and writing ski l ls - and are designed to expose students to a variety of material so that they can experience many forms of the

language whi le introducing them to the respective cultures associated with the language. This especially helps students preparing for life in a foreign country or businesses, which increases their global clientele.

Familiar with the challenges faced by people learning a new language, we make every effort to provide students with an environment that will nurture the i r learn ing process and encourage them to give off their best in a relaxed, comfortable and friendly learning space. We also offer tours for students to experience the beautiful Cape Town surroundings. Our central location also provides easy access to all major travel routes.

Our language certificates are internat ional ly recognised, being endorsed by TOEFL and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.





Teachers

LTC provides a prest ig ious education, boasting a staff of highly-qualified teachers who are friendly, enthusiastic and always willing to assist. Experienced in teaching students from diverse nationalities, our teachers are all native speakers in the languages that they teach.

Classes contain a maximum of eight students to ensure that every individual receives the best education and adequate suppo r t . We a l so p rov ide them with necessary cultural information surrounding the language and teach them all the major language skills.

Students are taught using the Direct Method. This uses the necessary di rect grammar, vocabulary and idiom presentation to prepare students for exposure t o se l ec ted passages and recordings from a wide variety of sources. This forms the basis for simulations, role-plays and discussions. The emphasis is heavily on communicative





teaching and students rapidly move to practicing learned forms in a relevant context.

We offer four training options: full-time courses, full-time intensive courses, crash courses and private lessons.

At LTC, we aim to increase productivity and efficiency by:• Promoting accurate understanding• Reducing time wasted seeking clarification• Improving internal and external communication• Improving relations with superiors, co-workers and clients• Improving intercultural etiquette, and• Building confidence in the use of the English language

These goals have been particularly selected for addressing the needs of a workforce containing many non-first language English speakers who may be unfamiliar with the professional expectations in the wider English-speaking community.





Before embarking on the course, prospective students will be required to undergo an initial placement test. This consists of a multiple-choice written test and an oral test, which determines the candidate’s level of proficiency. This test can be completed online prior to the commencement of the course.

At LTC, we accommodate al l levels of proficiency and students are assigned to one of the suitable groups: Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, I n te rmed ia te , and Upper-Intermediate or Advanced. Students will be periodically evaluated, with progress tests halfway through the course and final examinations, to determine whether they are ready to be promoted to the next level.

Courses

Our classes for all courses provided are kept small to ensure that each student receives adequate attention. Depending on the course, the maximum number of students per course ranges from three to eight per class. Classes run from Monday through to Friday, with private lessons also available.

Business English

In modern society, business is based on international contact and our school assists in building your business by improving your client service through enhanced communication at work and the ability to communicate with clients in their mother tongue.

General English + Business English (GE-BUS)

English at work (Personalised Business English or English for Specific Purposes [ESP])





In contemporary society, English is a necessary skill for every individual. With English being an international language, learning and speaking English enables easier communication between diverse groups of people. This allows one to travel, form business alliances and communicate with the world.

The General English Course teaches students the basics of the language including the four language skills, i.e. reading, writing, speaking and listening, as well as pronunciation and grammar. Students should acquire the:• Introduction to word classes• Understanding of basic structures and courtesy forms• Past, present and future forms, particularly simple and

continuous functions• Improved listening accuracy• Improved basic pronunciation

General English Intensive Course

Opportunity to practice conversation skills in afternoon class.

General English + 10 Private Lessons

Monday to Friday morning is with the class (max. 8 students) Afternoon sessions can be customized to suit your needs.

Crash Course

Very intensive. Max. 2 students.

English Courses





LTC also provides students with courses to help prepare them for international examinations. These include:

Cambridge ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) is a department of the University of Cambridge which offers a valuable range of English qualifications.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) evaluates the ability of an individual to use and understand English in an academic setting.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) assesses the language ability of students wanting to study or work in English.

Certificates and reports are issued on the successful completion of each level of study. Such assessment makes it possible to:

• Determine student progress• Report on progress • Motivate students• Identify areas requiring extra attention and,• Determine if students are ready for promotion to higher

levels.

Language completion certificates are internationally recognised and endorsed by TOEFL and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.

Assisting students to find a home away from home, LTC offers to find suitable accommodation in our beautiful city. All accommodation is hand-picked to suit the individual student’s needs. Our classrooms are located in a high-volume accommodation district which means that you don’t have to worry about transport and traffic. The school is also within walking distance to public transport routes.
