LANDSCAPE STRUCTURES LEARNING ACADEMY
The exclusive Landscape Structures Learning Academy is a nationally
accredited seminar program offered to park and recreation professionals
and landscape architects. With five Learning Academy sessions from which
to choose, you’ll earn continuing education credits (CEUs) while learning
about timely and critical topics related to the playground industry.
NEW! Landscape Structures Facility Tour
Lean manufacturing practices and kaizen
techniques combined with creative,
empowered employees can drive
significant operational improvements
and ensure product quality. In this
session you’ll learn:
• How manufacturing improvements
have created more environmentally
responsible products
• How empowered employees have
helped increase productivity
and success
• How to implement similar tactics in
your setting
NEW! Playground Safety & Maintenance
Each year on playgrounds nearly 200,000 injuries
occur that require emergency room treatment. Often
the injuries can be minimized or prevented with regular
assessments and maintenance. In this session you’ll
learn to:
• Identify potential hazards on the playground
and how to spot them in the field
• Establish a playground audit and inspection
protocol that becomes part of routine business
• Ensure compliance with national safety standards
Designing Natural Play Environments Play in nature is valuable to healthy child development, so it’s important to create
play spaces that encourage children and families to get outdoors and interact with
their environment. In this session you’ll learn to:
• Identify design considerations and best practice programming to maximize
participation and learning
• Understand what safety and accessibility standards apply to different natural
play environments
Beyond Accessibility: A Higher Level of Inclusive Play Playgrounds are a place for play and learning, where
children develop physical and cognitive skills, and where
they build valuable social relationships. However, not all
playgrounds can be considered inclusive. In this session
you’ll learn to:
• Recognize a successful playground experience for
kids of all abilities
• Design playgrounds to create value for children of
many different abilities
Designing Fitness-Focused Playgrounds Statistics on obesity rates illustrate the need for
community changes and the importance of motivating
kids to be active. Today’s playgrounds can be designed
specifically to get and keep kids active. In this session
you’ll learn to:
• Identify the physical fitness benefits kids gain
by using a playground
• Understand why playgrounds are important in
child development
• Design playgrounds with fitness benefits that help
achieve maximum physical fitness
