UN OUTDOOR FUN LASTS LONGER WITH A LANDSCAPE STRUCTURE As a kid, I remember

how much we loved to be outside. Growing up in Virginia, as soon as it warmed up, we ditched our sneakers for bare feet. We didn’t have much and were happy to have a simple charcoal grill for hamburgers and hotdogs. I also have wonderful memories visiting my grandparents’ cottage on the water in Fair Haven, New York where we spent all day together outside. Today my family spends time outdoors enjoying our beautiful vinyl pergola and canopy, grilling out and relaxing poolside.

OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS A few years ago I was very excited to find out that pavilion and pergola kits were available. I ordered one for myself and am incredibly happy with that decision every time we get to enjoy our backyard, rain or shine. I was inspired to share these pavilion and pergola kits so that everyone could know the same happiness. They have become so popular that each Spring we have a tough time squeezing everyone’s projects in for Memorial Day and July 4th.

AMAZING ENJOYMENT We opted for a pergola with a retractable canopy for our patio. When we’re out there grilling or just hanging out, if feels like we’re cheating mother nature. I can just grill away with my sweetie pie right there next to me. We can enjoy our food even though it’s pouring rain. On hot South Carolina summer days, it takes the edge off.

pick the right type of structure. The biggest reason why pavilions are rapidly becoming THE most popular outdoor living structures can be summed up in one word: VERSATILITY. Pavilions are beautiful, provide protection from the sun, rain, and bugs and are used to cover grills, living rooms, fire pits, outdoor theaters, kitchens, fireplaces, and pizza ovens. There is no other open structure that has more potential to bring people together than a pavilion.

The most important reasons for selecting a pavilion are yours. They go back to why you are picking any structure. What is going to help you enjoy your space more? How do you picture the structure in your space? All of our outdoor living structures are intended to be both useful AND beautiful. There may be options you aren’t fully aware of. We now have mosquito netting for pavilions if bugs are a major problem. We can design a gazebo for you that is more contemporary and less gazebo-looking that might be a better way for you to go if bugs are the biggest thing stopping you from enjoying the outdoors more? If shade and beauty are your #1 concerns, a pergola with a shade may be preferable.

This 16’ x 22’ outdoor living room gives you an idea of what’s possible inside of a relatively large backyard pavilion. There’s plenty of room for the living and dining area. Note how the contrast from the stained wood ceiling warms up the environment.

This customer had one of our pavilions and wanted a customized grill pavilion to match. There’s nothing quite like the first time you’re grilling outside under your pavilion when afternoon showers roll in as you cheat nature, dry and both hands free. No more holding an umbrella over your grill.

This beautiful property in Southern Connecticut features all the dream features in one beautifully dry and shaded area. There’s a bar and living room for entertaining and relaxation out of the sun, an outdoor grill, burners, sink and even a refrigerator for a full kitchen.

Ever woken up after a nap by your pool having been exposed to more than just a little too much sun? One of the questions our design consultants ask is how your sun arcs across your property. That way, you can possibly position your pavilion to get better coverage (or shop for hanging shades).

Rather than reinventing the wheel, a large residential builder contacted us. The result is this beautiful and functional picnic pavilion the residents will be enjoying for decades. While vinyl pavilions are at least 20% more costly than wood, instead of having to re-finish it, all this pavilion will need is an occasional washing.

This beautiful structure is located below the Housatonic River Dam in Connecticut. Also featured on our cover, it shows how the beauty and function of our landscape structures complete an outdoor living area. It’s also an excellent example of our design capabilities. This 12’ x 20’ pavilion adjoins an 8’ x 10’ vinyl pergola with matching posts and is far from standard. It does, however, incorporate the same joinery as our other structures saving thousands in design and engineering costs.

Wood or vinyl? While still the same basic wood frame construction and joinery, our wood and vinyl pavilions look very different. We don’t have an example of a white painted wood pavilion, but there is a lot more to the decision than just price and color. Standard wood pavilion kits are unfinished, but a vinyl pavilion still runs 20 – 27% more than stained wood depending on upgrades. The wood is highly durable but takes a lot more work to stay looking new. Also, Southern Yellow Pine wood splits depending on maintenance and weather variations. Size, price, function, character, maintenance, durability - talk to your design consultant about which factors are most important to you.

This beautiful structure shows both the privacy wall and the lattice options for pergolas. The privacy wall can be completely solid or have lattice. The privacy wall and lattice are available in both wood and vinyl and are available for pavilions as well.

Pergolas come standard with straight posts with trim on the bottom, 2” x 8” double beams with braces, 2” x 6” rafters and 2” x 2” runners. You have the choice of these options:
