“The Gruffalo Performance” Years K to 3 are attending a performance at the Griffith Regional Theatre Tuesday April 2nd. Cost is $17 for performance and bus hire and notes were sent home yesterday. If you haven’t already sent your childs note and money back to school could you please do so ASAP. eForm is also available on skoolbag and payment can be made via our website.
Easter Hat Parade Our Easter Hat Parade is coming up soon, just one weekend remaining before, Friday, April 12th, at 2.15pm. The Easter Hat Parade will be aimed at Kinder to Year 2 with any Year 3-6 or staff member who wishes to make a hat also invited to join in. Every student who brings in an Easter hat made at home will receive a ticket to put in a lucky egg raffle. The Most Popular Easter Hat in each year group K-2 as voted by the children will receive a certificate at the next assembly. There will also be some kind of Easter related activity for all the children after their parade, such as Find-The-Bilby or an Easter Egg Hunt. Easter Hats are designed and constructed at home and brought along on the day (before Recess please to be considered in any vote). It is preferable if the Easter Hat does not have confectionary on it. All students in K-2 will also make a simple Easter decorated head band in class which might be used for the parade if a backup is needed. Parents, Family and any other little children about the place are welcome to come along and watch or join in the activities. It all helps foster some creativity and fun for children near the end of term.
Naplan Online Practice Test Lake Wyangan Public School is one of over 500 NSW schools in 2019 conducting NAPLAN Online. All NSW schools commence NAPLAN Online by 2020. There will be one 45 minute practice this week for students in Year 3 and Year 5 either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday to test out our computers and network capacity and to give the students some familiarity with what they will see when the real NAPLAN tests of literacy and numeracy are conducted later in Term 2. There are no results for students from the practice trial. Mr Dawson or Mrs Good will explain and guide Yr3 and Yr5 students through the practice. Parents/carers can contact Mr Dawson if they want any further information.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy – important skills that each child needs to succeed in school and life. The NAPLAN tests are designed to help us make sure students are on track with their literacy and numeracy development. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in NAPLAN tests for reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. Between Tuesday May 14th and Thursday May 23rd, our school will participate in NAPLAN Online. Students do not need to be computer experts to take the NAPLAN test online. Making sure students have computer skills is part of our school curriculum, and our teachers will ensure your child is familiar with the online format. To see the types of questions and interactive features of NAPLAN Online, visit the public demonstration site at https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact your child’s teacher.
Girls Riverina Soccer Trails On Tuesday 2nd April, Porsha Barbaro, Jess Carusi, Emma Hutchinson, Sophie Hilton and Serena O’Conner will try out for the Girls Riverina team with trials to be held in Albury. We wish the girls all the best in getting selected to move to the next phase to be held in Lismore late May.
Communication Just a reminder that Skoolbag is now a very important part of how the school can easily communicate with parents and carers in conjunction with P&C meetings, permission notes, email, the calendar, our website and newsletters. If you haven’t already put the LWPS Skoolbag App on your phones and other portable devices, could you please do so. If you have any difficulties, please let Mr Dawson know so that either help can be given or feedback to Skoolbag can be provided to fix issues which pop up.

Boys Riverina Soccer Trials Aaron Dawson, Harvey Emery and Jack Johns travelled to Tumut last week to try out for the boys Riverina Soccer team. Unfortunately our boys weren’t successful but put in a great effort representing our school and Griffith Zone well in their games. Positive Behaviour Learning [PBL] Lake Wyangan Public School has been developing it’s new Student Wellbeing Policy and associated procedures with a major focus on positive behaviour learning principles. As part of the strategies in our Lake Wyangan Public School 2018-2020 School Plan - Strategic Direction 2 this will incorporate what community in the old days would call School Rules and discipline procedures. Based on our four school community values of ‘Respect, Responsibility, Care and Do your Best’, each class has displayed the LWPS Behaviour Expectations Matrix and through each term across the school, class teachers focus and do lessons to teach a specific positive behaviour/expectation. Where possible these expectations are expressed in meaningful language for the children. Consequently at Lake Wyangan we are being explicit with children in teaching what is expected and valued and will be rewarded rather than only having a punishment or giving time to unwanted behaviours. In Week 10 and Week 11 the class and school focus is ‘Get help when needed!’ A copy of our Behaviour Matrix will be attached on Skoolbag and all parents will have the opportunity as the School Plan is implemented to contribute to the new LWPS Student Wellbeing Policy.

General School Contributions Thank you to everyone who has been able to pay the General School Contribution fee of $25 per child. This contribution helps maintain a similar level of funding available for resources or special programs as other schools. In the last few years the support from families has been terrific and all Voluntary School Contributions collected have been directed solely to the purchase of consumable items used by students in the classroom to improve their lessons and experiences. It is a most valued contribution and your support is appreciated.
Text Book and Software Fee Lake Wyangan PS has a text book and software fee of $20. In 2019 this is contributing towards maths texts and help provide access at home for students on the internet to Mathletics and Reading Eggs educational software.
Code of Conduct for Parents/Visitors A code of conduct for parents and visitors ensures that everyone who visits the school site is able to do so in a safe and harmonious manner and to ensure that students, staff, parents and other visitors are not subjected to intimidation, derogatory, aggressive, hostile or violent behaviours. Parents and visitors are expected to: • Treat all persons associated with the school with respect and courtesy • Request permission from the Principal or Teacher In Charge to be in school grounds after morning drop off
and before afternoon pick up. All sign the visitors register at the office before any activity. No parents or community can enter school grounds when they like to watch or assist their child or other children in any way, without the Principal’s permission.
• Ensure their child/children are punctual to class • Make appointments in advance of expecting to obtain an interview • Allow staff to supervise, investigate and manage students without interference • Discuss issues or concerns about the school, staff or students through the correct procedures • Follow school procedures governing entry and behaviour on school grounds, including any restrictions that
may be imposed. Any person contravening this Code of Conduct is advised that the provisions of the Inclosed Lands Protection Act (1901) and its amendments will be followed if any of the following occur: • Behaviour in the presence of students, staff, parents, or other visitors to the school that causes alarm or
concern to the students, staff, parents or other visitors; • Use of offensive language (i.e. swearing) in the presence of students, staff or other visitors to the school: • Any interruption to the learning environment of the school such as entering classrooms without permission; • Actual physical assaults or threatened physical assaults on students, staff, parents or community member
at the school or during the course of school activities. Your co-operation is sought in maintaining a safe and happy school.
Lake Wyangan Public School respect and acknowledge the Wiradjuri people, who are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our school is based.

Community News
Help Remember our Ex-Servicemen & Women on ANZAC Day (Submitted by Marg Tucker) For ANZAC Day this year, as happened last year, a small white cross and a poppy will be place on every Ex-Serviceman and Woman’s grave in the Griffith Cemetery, just over 1000 graves in total. On the 11th April a small service in the cemetery will be held, the community, and students in particular, are invited to visit the Griffith Cemetery and place the provided flowers on the graves marked with little white crosses. Donations of flowers will also be gratefully accepted. This has been a beautiful thing to see over the past ten years. Not one of the marked graves went without a flower last year, placed there by the small but enthusiastic crowd. I look forward to seeing you all at the cemetery. Arrive at 9.50amd for a 10.00 start. – Marg Tucker
