A Reading from the Second Book of Chronicles
In those days, all the princes of Judah, the priests, and the people added infidelity to infidelity, practicing all theabominations of the nations and polluting the LORD’s temple which he had consecrated in Jerusalem. Earlyand often did the LORD, the God of their fathers, send his messengers to them, for he had compassion on hispeople and his dwelling place. But they mocked the messengers of God, despised his warnings, and scoffed athis prophets, until the anger of the LORD against his people was so inflamed that there was no remedy. Theirenemies burnt the house of God, tore down the walls of Jerusalem, set all its palaces afire, and destroyed all itsprecious objects. Those who escaped the sword were carried captive to Babylon, where they became servants ofthe king of the Chaldeans and his sons until the kingdom of the Persians came to power. All this was to fulfillthe word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah: “Until the land has retrieved its lost sabbaths, during all the time itlies waste it shall have rest while seventy years are fulfilled.” In the first year of Cyrus, king of Persia, in orderto fulfill the word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah, the LORD inspired King Cyrus of Persia to issue thisproclamation throughout his kingdom, both by word of mouth and in writing: “Thus says Cyrus, king of Persia:All the kingdoms of the earth the LORD, the God of heaven, has given to me, and he has also charged me tobuild him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever, therefore, among you belongs to any part of hispeople, let him go up, and may his God be with him!”

A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians
Brothers and sisters: God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great love he had for us, even when wewere dead in our transgressions, brought us to life with Christ — by grace you have been saved —, raisedus up with him, and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He mightshow the immeasurable riches of his grace in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have beensaved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so no one mayboast. For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared inadvance, that we should live in them.
Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.
A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint JohnPeople: Glory to you, O Lord.
Jesus said to Nicodemus: “Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must
the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal
life.” For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who
believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send
his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved
through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not
believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the
only Son of God. And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but
people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who
does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his
works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that
his works may be clearly seen as done in God.
Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
The Responsorial: Let my tongue be silenced, if I ever forget you!
Lector: Praise and honor to you, Lord Jesus Christ. (Please Stand) People Only: Praise and honor to you, Lord Jesus Christ.Lector Only: God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might have eternal life.People Only: Praise and honor to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit.

Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father;
through Him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation He came down
from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was Incarnate of the
Virgin Mary and became Man.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius
Pilate,
He suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver
of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the
Son,
Who with the Father and the Son is adored and
glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic
Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of
sins and I look forward to the resurrection of
the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

Come, Our Almighty King
Come, Our almighty King,
Help us Your Name to sing, help us to praise!
Father all glorious, ever victorious,
Come and reign over us, Ancient of Days!
Come, O incarnate Word,
Gird on your mighty sword, our prayer attend!Come, and your people bless, and give your Word success,
Spirit of holiness, on us descend!
Come, holy Comforter,
Your sacred witness bear in this glad hour.
Your grace to us impart, now rule in every heart,
Never from us depart, Spirit of power!
To the great One in Three,
Eternal praises be, hence, evermore.
His sovereign majesty may we in glory see,
And to eternity love and adore!
Entrance
Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All
Jesus, my Lord, my God, my all!
How can I love Thee as I ought?
And how revere this wondrous gift,
So far surpassing hope or thought?
Refrain:
Sweet Sacrament, we Thee adore!
Oh, make us love Thee more and more.
Oh, make us love Thee more and more.
Had I but Mary's sinless heart
To love Thee with, my dearest King,
Oh, with what bursts of fervent praise,
Thy goodness, Jesus, would I sing!
Refrain
Offertory
Holy God, We Praise Thy Name
Holy God, we praise Thy Name;
Lord of all, we bow before Thee!
All on earth Thy scepter claim,
All in Heaven above adore Thee;
Infinite Thy vast domain,
Everlasting is Thy reign.
Hark! the loud celestial hymn
Angel choirs above are raising,
Cherubim and seraphim,
In unceasing chorus praising;
Fill the heavens with sweet accord:
Holy, holy, holy, Lord.
Holy Father, Holy Son,
Holy Spirit, Three we name Thee;
While in essence only One,
Undivided God we claim Thee;
And adoring bend the knee,
While we own the mystery.
Concluding
Soul of My Saviour
Soul of my Savior sanctify my breast,
Body of Christ, be thou my saving guest,
Blood of my Savior, bathe me in Thy tide,
Wash me, ye waters gushing from His side.
Strength and protection may His passion be,
O blessed Jesus, hear and answer me;
Deep in thy wounds, Lord, hide and shelter me,
So shall I never, never part from Thee.
Guard and defend me from the foe malign,
In death's drear moments make me only Thine;
Call me, and bid me come to Thee on high
When I may praise Thee with Thy saints for aye.

If you would like to have a Mass said for a loved one you may do so by calling Ext. 111 or by visiting the Administration Building between the hours of 9am - 12noon, Monday thru
Friday. Since the intentions on Sunday are sometimes unavailable for over a year due to the many requests for them you may want to consider obtaining a Purgatorial Mass
intention. Your intention will be announced during the following month at every Mass at 7pm on Monday. It will also be printed in the bulletin for that month.

The Fourth Sunday of Lent, Laetare (Lay-tar-ray) or Rose Sunday. Laetare means rejoice. Since the earliest times, today is the day that the Pope blesses a roseand blesses those attending Mass with it. It is a sign that the Resurrection of Christ will one day be our own resurrection. Only Laetare Sunday offers us a break of ourLenten fast as we prepare for Easter through the rebaptism of confession. After this break we are obligated to return to our Lenten sacrifices until Easter Sunday. All thedays of Lent including Sundays except for today are days to keep your Lenten sacrifice of a particular food or drink.

Lenten Reminders
Stations of the Cross are held every Friday during Lent at 7pm at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel. AshWednesday and Good Friday are days of abstinence from meat and fasting to one full meal. All the Fridays ofLent are days of abstinence from meat. During Lent you should also sacrifice by abstaining from a particularkind of food and drink. You are allowed to break your Lenten abstinence from food, candy, drink, etc. only
on the 4 Sunday of Lent, Laetare Sunday (Rose Sunday). You are still to keep the Lenten abstinence on all theth
other Sundays of Lent. Children should offer up candy during Lent which is the reason candy is given onEaster. There should be less entertaining, eating, music, television, movies, and more praying the Rosary,
attending Stations of the Cross on Fridays and other prayers. You are also asked especially at this time to donate to the Cardinal’s Appealfor Catholic Charities which you received as a separate mailing from the Archdiocese as part of your Lenten sacrifice. If you are not aregistered parishioner and you want to make this a part of your Lenten sacrifice for the needy of the Archdiocese there are envelopeslocated at the entrances to the Chapel. There is no music allowed during Lent with the exception of Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday and
Holy Saturday during Holy Week.
The Catholic Widows and Widowers of Dutchess and Putnam Counties will meet on the third

In keeping with health recommendations, St. Peter’s Parish traditionally does not offer the sign of peace during the flu season from thefirst Sunday of November to the first Sunday of May nor at the 12noon or 5pm Masses on Sunday weekly for those who may be moresusceptible to illness (i.e. elderly or very young). This is being done because sometimes people do not know if they are carriers of the
flu virus. Most viral and bacterial diseases are transmitted from hand to hand contact. The United States Center for Disease Control inAtlanta, Georgia reports that the flu is the seventh leading cause of death especially with the elderly and very young in the United
States. It is in keeping with a Christian attitude that we act responsibly dealing with health issues.

St. Patrick’s BreastplateSt. Patrick's Breastplate is a popular prayer attributed to one of Ireland’s most beloved patron saints. According to tradition, St.
Patrick wrote it in 433 A.D. for divine protection before successfully converting the Irish King Leoghaire and his subjects from
paganism to Christianity. (The term breastplate refers to a piece of armor worn in battle.)
Christ be with me, Christ before meChrist behind me, Christ in meChrist beneath me, Christ above meChrist on my right, Christ on my leftChrist where I lie, Christ where I sitChrist where I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of meChrist in the mouth of every man who speaks of meChrist in every eye that sees meChrist in every ear that hears meSalvation is of the Lord.

where it is unsealed by the bankers. Any monies withdrawn from the bank account for bills is only done by way of a checking account. A copy of each check is then sent by computer to the Archdiocese for verification.

*Not paid due to loss of students during those years even though St. Peter’s parishioners had to cover the deficit of the 1.2 m illion dollars needed every year for the teachers’ salaries and benefits which deficit was usually
around $300,000. Archdiocese originally forgave the 1975-1999 school debt but then recently and unexpectedly re-billed us for it. This debt will be paid also from the interest of a $700,000 fifty year trust bequeathed to the

Dear St. Peter’s Parishioners,
You should have already received a letter from our Archbishop, Cardinal Dolan, requesting your donation for the 2015Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal. Your contribution to this annual appeal for Catholic Charities will enable contributions to thefollowing needy: Catholic nursing homes, Catholic homeless shelters, Catholic orphanages, Catholic homes for unwed mothers,Catholic seminaries for the training of future priests and Catholic retirement homes for aged nuns, priests and brothers. As a newpastor, my time spent training and preparing at St. Joseph’s Seminary was funded by this same Appeal and by many of the donationsmade by you, the parishioners. Your previous generosity to the Appeal is one of the reasons I am able to serve this parish as yourpastor.
Cardinal Dolan set a goal of $65,000 for St. Peter’s Parish. In his letter to each of you who participated last year he included asuggested donation which if you can meet will be a tremendous step for St. Peter’s Parish in making its goal. It is important in order tomaintain our good standing with the Archdiocese for our parish to make the goal Cardinal Dolan has set for us. The Archdioceseexamines many factors when examining the health of a parish. A parish meeting its goal is one of those factors. I think it is importantfor St. Peter’s Parish to meet its goal as the Mother Church of the Hudson Valley. Cardinal Dolan is hoping that 325 of our 500attending families would contribute at least $200 in order to meet our goal given that some of our parishioners cannot afford to donatetoward the appeal. You do not have to put any money into the Appeal envelope that you received in the mail or that will soon be made availableat the entrances. All you have to do now is simply to check in the box inside the envelope that you received in the mail from theCardinal the amount you hope to pledge and how many payments you want to make to achieve that pledge. For example, if you pledge$200, you may want to contribute that in monthly $50 installments. The Cardinal’s office will handle all the mailing and theinstallments to you personally. This will save the parish all the money we used to put in for mailings, envelopes and recording. It isimportant at this vital time for the future of all 300 hundred parishes of the Archdiocese that they respond to the financial request of theCardinal.
I come to you with this request of the Cardinal because as your pastor it is my responsibility but also because I believe in theCardinal’s Appeal and the needs this appeal supports. St. Peter’s Parish has been very close to the goal in the past and I believe withprayer, sacrifice and the intercession of Our Lady we can make the goal this year. Please continue your long history of supporting theCardinal’s Appeal and all the programs, ministries and religious vocations that are funded by it. As was said by St. Vincent de Paul, thePatron Saint of Charitable Organizations, “Charity leads us to God.”
Gratefully in Our Lady,Fr. Patrick Curley
The Annual Cardinal’s Stewardship Appeal
A Lenten Journey
I hope that you will make your donation to Catholic Charities to be a part of your Lenten sacrifice.
During the five weeks of Lent, we are supposed to abstain from some kind of food and drink and give the
money we would normally spend a week on that food and drink to the poor, in this case to the Cardinal’s
Appeal for Catholic Charities. If you sacrificed $40 on some food and drink a week and give it to the
Cardinal’s Appeal for Catholic Charities you are in that way fulfilling your Lenten obligation as well as
helping the poor and helping to keep St. Peter’s Parish in good standing with the Cardinal. If you do this
for five weeks in Lent you will have given the $200 the Cardinal is asking from you for Catholic Charities.
Try then very much to make your donation to Catholic Charities your Lenten journey. You can only
donate what you are able to, we do not want you to take away from your or your family’s needs. We are
grateful for whatever you can do for Catholic Charities.
