SEVEN TIME LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

The 2008 Gonzaga Varsity Lacrosse Team has been do-ing more than just practicing and playing lacrosse this season. When the Eagles play you will notice they are wearing neon green laces on their cleats to show their support for the fight against lymphoma. The money

used to buy these laces went straight to the research against pre-venting lymphoma. You will also notice that the Eagles are wearing the initials JF on their helmets. These initials stand for Staff Sgt. Jonathan Forde, Gonzaga Lacrosse Alumnus from the class of 1999. Jonathan passed away while training for his second tour of duty to Iraq this previous summer and he was a pivotal reason why Gonzaga won back to back WCAC League Titles in 1997 and 1998 as a face-off specialist. The Eagles are proud to represent Jonathan this year and all he stood for!

The program is also proud to be the first lacrosse team from Washington, DC to team up with ASA (Americans Supporting Americans). The Eagles have adopted the Bravo Company of the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, l0lst Airborne Division (Air Assault) in Iraq. They will send them gift packages, letters, lacrosse gear...etc. to keep their spirits up as those soldiers fight for our Freedom!

Lastly, the varsity lacrosse team spent two days over their spring break to do community service and team up with Washing-ton Parks and People to clean up Marvin Gaye Park in Northeast, DC.

The 2009 Gonzaga Varsity will honor Stephanie Marshik with her initials, SM, on their helmets this season. Stephanie is the late wife of Gonzaga alum, Mark Decker ‘93. Mark played four years of lacrosse on Eye Street and was a key figure in the 1992 & 1993 WCAC championship seasons. Stephanie passed away after battling cancer for six years and left behind Mark and their six year old son, Sam. The Varsity Eagles are proud to honor her because she gave 110% in all she did and was a true believer in life, love and hard work.

Gonzaga Lacrosse will continue to support Headstrong and wear the neon green laces on their cleats. The varsity will also team up with Washington Parks and People yet again to help clean up our city’s parks over spring break. And lastly, the entire program will work with Americans Supporting Americans again. It is our plea-sure to announce that the 2009 Gonzaga Lacrosse Family, all three teams, Varsity, Purple and White and its boosters our supporting the 2nd Army, Alpha Company, 35th Infantry, currently stationed in Iraq.

The 2010 Gonzaga Lacrosse Program has the honor of repre-senting LCDR Erik S. Kristensen ’90 on their helmets this year. Shown on the helmets will be Erik’s SEAL Team 10 Logo. For all the information about Erik and his story please click here: http://kristensenklassic.com/about-erik/

Also for the past few years the Gonzaga Lacrosse Program has “adopted” a military company serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. This year we have the honor to support the 3-158 STORM RIDERS. This is a group of Blackhawk Helicopter pilots and support person-nel on deployment in Balad, Iraq.

The 2011 Gonzaga Lacrosse Program is proud to honor the Children’s National Medical Center and help raise awareness to their Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders in Children. The team will do so by wearing decals on their game helmets reading: “He-roes Against Childhood Cancer”

Also in 2011 the Program will be aligning with C Company 2-34 AR “Fighting Aces” in Afghanistan. This special unit is in

a very remote area of the world where any support is crucial to their morale and strength. We love our soldiers and will help them any way we can! This has become a wonderful tradition for our program and we have been honored by having a US Flag flown last year over Iraq by a US Blackhawk Chopper and presented to the program. This Flag is now proudly displayed in Gonzaga’s Hall of Fame room in the Carmody Center.

The 2012 Gonzaga Lacrosse Program is proud to once again honor the children and at Children’s Hospital fighting cancer. For the 2nd straight year the team will wear decals on their helmets: “Heroes Against Childhood Cancer”. The varsity seniors will visit the hospital in late March and the program plans to continue to help raise awareness and funds for these children. At the program banquet over 50 members of the lacrosse program and some of their family members participated in the “BE BRAVE AND SHAVE” Project. The Eagles Lacrosse members raised over $70,000 dollars for children fighting cancer at Children’s Hospital. This was an ALL TIME RECORD for this project! See one of the photos below

Also this season, the program will honor a wonderful man who passed away after a long fight with cancer. Brad Rock, husband and father of four boys, was a loving, strong and wonderful man. His oldest son, Alex, is a Gonzaga varsity lacrosse player and the team is proud to dedicate their season and represent his father. The Eagles will wear decals stating “ROCK THE PURPLE”!

Customary with the program, The Eagles will support 1-14 Cavalry “TF WARHORSE” in Afghanistan. These men and women are located in one of the most remote and toughest areas in the world. It is our duty to support them and send them love for their courage and honor. The program sent over 200 boxes to sup-port these men and women.

The program continues to teach and mold our players that outside of sports, we have a duty as Christians to serve others and be good men!

The 2013 Gonzaga Lacrosse Program is proud to YET again honor the children and at Children’s Hospital fighting cancer. For the 3rd straight year the team will wear decals on their helmets: “Heroes Against Childhood Cancer”. The varsity seniors will visit the hospital in April and the program plans to continue to help raise awareness and funds for these children. At the program banquet in late May many of the players in the lacrosse program and some of their family members will participate again in the “BE BRAVE AND SHAVE” Project. The Eagles Lacrosse members raised over $70,000 dollars last season for children fighting cancer at Children’s Hospital. This was an ALL TIME RECORD for this project!

The Eagles are also all wearing new decals this year in a lime green color (the color of lymphoma cancer) to support long time LOVED trainer Penny Lynch in her fight. Penny is battling this yet again and with our support we know she will pull through because she is a leader and as tough as they come!

And customary with our program, we will support troops in the middle east by sending over 200 care boxes and letters. These men and women are located in one of the most remote and toughest areas in the world. This year we support: 2-1 CAV “BLACK-HAWKS” It is our duty to support them and send them love for their courage and honor.

The Gonzaga Lacrosse Family is so proud to be a part of these wonderful projects off the field and continue to show why our spirit is truly one of being: “Men for Others”.

The JesuiT TradiTionesuits and education. These two words combined denote excellent preparation for young people anywhere in the world. Jesuits and their lay colleagues seek to bring to full expression the talents of young people within the Christian tradition in

their schools. This has been the case in Washington since 1821, when

Gonzaga’s venerable predecessor, the Washington Seminary, was founded. In 1858, the name changed to Gonzaga College when President Buchanan signed the Act of Congress incorporating the school legally. Then, the school was located on F Street, N.W. It moved to North Capitol and Eye Streets, N.W. in 1871. Throughout that whole time, the school sought, and seeks, to help young people grow towards religious, intellectual and social maturity.

Committing itself to a downtown location in the 1960s, Gonzaga serves a uniquely diverse student body, from all points of the compass. Students come here, and with the best advice and help, construct their own schedule of learning which will best help them develop their strengths. These include, for our students, commitment to the teachings of Jesus Christ, dedication to academic excellence, personal service to other people, especially those in need, and deep and fulfilling involvement in sporting and other co-curriculars.

The spiriT of GonzaGaAt Gonzaga there

is a tremendous sense of community; all Washington knows that Gonzaga students are outstanding, spirited, special persons.

Because of Gonzaga’s amazing location, her students are on-the-scene participants in the cultural, intellectual, and political happenings of the Federal City. More importantly, students come to Gonzaga from every part of the entire metropolitan area. Increasingly, they use Metrorail to nearby Union Station; many come by Metrobus, commuter rail and carpool.

Gonzaga students learn from one another. They are intellectually talented and racially, economically, geographically, and socially diverse. Gonzaga’s spirit embraces them and brings them all together in a caring, warm community where they meet other students who will be among their closest life-long friends.

academic challenGeGonzaga offers outstanding academics. Gonzaga students work

hard to complete a sophisticated academic program in which they learn how to understand the thoughts and achievements of others as they learn themselves to think and achieve. They learn to read and write effectively, to appreciate and create beauty, to understand that people are wonderfully diverse.

Gonzaga students study and apply mathematics until they are at home with abstract and logical thinking. In Gonzaga’s acclaimed science program, students become scientists as well as humanists. Gonzaga graduates enjoy an intellectual balance because they have studied deeply in various subjects.

At Gonzaga, students grow increasingly responsible for their own learning. Gonzaga teachers—intellectually and humanly competent and experienced men and women—care most deeply that their students grow and learn. They stress in each course skills
