Bio2137-Lab 8: Evaluation Guideline for the Phototoxicity Report -2012

  Title Page (One sheet) :

-  A title page is required for any report.

-  A penalty of 10 % of the total mark value is applied if not present.

  Table 8.1 (Part 1 of lab 8):

A table containing the diameter sizes of the observed zone of inhibition of yeast growth (in mm) for each

fraction (95% ethanol, Hexane and Water-Ethanol) of marigold root extract and for the Residue of

marigold roots incubated under experimental (exposed to light) and control (in the dark) conditions.

Team’s data and the means (± standard errors) of all sections on your lab day (called Class data)

should be presented.

Appropriate Caption, Column and Row headings and Footnotes should be included.

Make sure to follow the guidelines on how to do a proper table in pages 14-15 of lab manual.

  Table 8.2 (Parts 2 and 3 of lab 8):

  A table containing:

-  The diameter sizes of the observed zone of inhibition of yeast growth (in mm) for each organ(Flower, Leaf, Stem and Root) of your team’s plant species incubated under experimental

(exposed to light) and control (in the dark) conditions.

-  The means (± standard errors) of all sections on your lab day (called Class data) for diametersizes of the observed zones of inhibition of yeast growth (in mm) for each organ (Flower, Leaf,

Stem and Root) of each of the 3 plants species ( Rudbeckia hirta, Impatiens sp. , and Citrus lemon)

incubated under experimental (exposed to light) and control (in the dark) conditions.

-  The mean (±standard error) for the pure phototoxin (8-methoxypsoralen) inhibition zones of

yeast growth (in mm) measured by the lab technician under experimental (exposed to light) and

control (in the dark) conditions.

Appropriate Caption, Column and Row headings and Footnotes should be included.

Make sure to follow the guidelines on how to do a proper table in pages 14-15 of lab manual.

  Questions:

Part 1: Questions 1 to 3 from page 6 of your lab manual.

Part 2: Questions 1 to 5 from page 8 of your lab manual (your answers should be based on the results

obtained).

Marking scheme (Final Mark = 40):
