ContinentContinentSeeing ideas transformed into reality is both rewarding and exciting. This year the SummerFest Gala will take place on Saturday, August 15th at the magnificent home of Joan and Irwin Jacobs and we would feel very much privileged to have your support as a Sponsor.

Our theme, Echoes Across a Continent, plays on the enduring epigraph of French/Russian cultural crossovers. The French speaking Catherine the Great, intrigued by much of the philosophy, literature and cuisine emanating from France, brought some of these ideas to her own Imperial court. A cultural familiarity may well have been the incentive that later led Russian composers, artists and musicians to seek political refuge in Paris during the early twentieth century.

Throughout the evening the emphasis will be French with a Russian touch. Guests will be led to a terrace that opens onto a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. With a flute of French champagne or a glass of Russian vodka securely in hand you will surely be tempted to sample a projkis au canard, or perhaps a canapé topped with caviar, while watching the sun slowly begin its descent. Our half-hour concert will continue through the mesh of time with the pleasure of hearing the work of renowned Russian composers from the past played by our celebrated musicians of today. An elegant French dinner served in traditional fashion will follow. The evening ends with whimsy: disco dancing and an ice cream bar with the option of a brandy Alexander or, if desired, your fortune read by a gypsy clairvoyant.

In recognition of your support for this event you will receive special seating at the gala concert and dinner as well as acknowledgement in the invitation and program book. In addition, you will be invited to a special Gala Sponsor party.

For over forty-five years, La Jolla Music Society has brought world-class artists to the San Diego community along with educational outreach programs allowing underprivileged children to experience the joy of music. The SummerFest Gala benefits the education, outreach and artistic programs of LJMS. We invite you to join us to help make this event an outstanding success.
