Coaching Workshops: Free Admission • Limited SeatingMornings with Master Teachers and Fellowship Artists Weekdays August 4 – 23 • 10:00 – 12:00pm • La Jolla Riford Library
SummerFest 2011 coaches include Michael Tree, David Chan, Sheryl Staples, Burt Hara, Ralph Kirshbaum, Cynthia Phelps, Paul Neubauer, Cho-Liang Lin and members of the Tokyo String Quartet and The Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio. Each year, SummerFest Music Director Cho-Liang Lin invites several conservatory students to participate in this intensive series of master classes conducted by senior artists from the SummerFest roster. The students are in-residence for the entire festival participating in three weeks of classes which culminate in a performance during SummerFest. The training they receive in this intense atmosphere contributes to their growth as the next generation of celebrated musicians. During SummerFest 2011, audiences are invited to follow the artistic growth of this year’s Fellowship Artists – The Old City String Quartet: Bryan Lee and Joel Link, violins; Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt, viola; Camden Shaw, cello and the Éclat Quartet: Sonja Harasim and Xiaoxiao Qiang, violins; Zachary Carrettin, viola; Lachezar Kostov, cello. On August 5, 12, 18 and 19 SummerFest performers will coach young local musicians from the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory. La Jolla Music Society maintains an active partnership with the San Diego Youth Symphony to support student musicians in the San Diego area.
Visit www.LJMS.org in July for a complete listing of coaches. During the festival the website will reflect any updates or changes to the schedule.
