second largest country in Western Europe. It is smaller than Texas, but bigger than California

– France is a very diversified country with the highest mountains in Europe and a coastline along the Atlantic and the Mediterranean

Les Alpes et Chamonix

• The Alpes are located in the east of France along its border with Italy

• Chamonix is located in a valley in the Alpes at the foot of Massif du Blanc (the highest mountain in Europe). It is a famous ski resort and the 1924 Olympics were held there

La Côte d’Azur

The French Riveria, or la Côte d’Azur, stretches about 100 miles along the Mediterranean, from the Toulon area to the Italian border. For the French, the Côte d’Azur is their favorite summer vacation place.

Les Châteaux de la LoireThere are many castles located in the Loire Valley. Many were built by the French kings nearly 500 years ago.

Le Château de Chenonceau is one of the most famous castles and was finished in 1521. Part of the castle sits on a bridge over a river.

Paris, the capital of France, is also its economic, intellectual, and artistic center. For many people, Paris is the most beautiful city in the world.

Paris: Montmartre

Montmartre is a neighborhood in Paris known for being a home to artists. The white, domed Sacré-Cœur church sits atop the hill and can be seen from many parts of Paris.
