Word of the Month:

Respect

One of the

most sincere

forms of re-

spect is actu-

ally listening to

what another

has to say.

Bryant H.

McGill

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! It is so wonderful to have our students back in the

building. It’s hard to express how much the children are missed when they are not here.

Our staff of teachers, para professionals, custodians, and secretaries continue to strive to

give our students the best education possible. Our staff is beyond measure!

The building is looking exceptionally well this fall. The blacktop part of the play area has

been extended with three new tether ball courts, adding more to the outside fun.

The classrooms and hallways are fresh and uplifting with student work displayed through-

out.

The technology has all been upgraded and ready for immediate student use. We have one

to one technology in our 7th and 8th grade classes, with these students transporting their

laptops class to class in preparation for high school. According to Mrs. Hill, our technology

coordinator, our students are doing an exceptional job of keeping their laptops safe in

transit. We also have two separate ipad carts and two laptop carts also ready and available

for use in our other grades.

Saving the best for last:

Our 2014 School Annual Performance Report (APR) - Final

School Summary Report for MSIP 5 has been announced. We are pleased to report that the

Lonedell R-14 School District scored a 93.8%!

Our Superintendent writes,

“I am very proud of our MSIP 5 scores and attribute that to the hard work of teach-

ers, families and staff. We will continue to strive to improve any areas of concern

and maintain all areas of student success. Overall, we are very pleased with our

current scores, but will always strive for excellence in our district and for our stu-

dents.”

Mrs. Ulrich, I could not agree with you more! Thank you to everyone for making Lonedell R-14 a GREAT school!

Title I Tidbits September 2014

Welcome Back!

Fun Ways to Learn Math

Create Spirograph Art Artistic types will love to create symmetrical flowers and designs, and children can count points

while exploring patterns and geometry.

Play Games – Chutes and Ladders and Candy Land show number sequences and build math skills naturally. Older kids can

play Scrabble, where they double and triple points.

Learn with LEGOs – How many dots does this block have? How much of this piece will cover up the other one? Children

add, multiply, and get comfortable with numbers in a playful, under-the-radar way.

Start a Project- Have children cook and/or do carpentry! Counting money, grocery shopping and real life projects are

great math moments.

Explore Interests – Add math to whatever your children discuss at dinner, like their fascination with ninjas or video

games. Mix math into everyday life!

PRESCHOOL PALS

October 4th

9:30a.m-11:00a.m.

Parents and preschoolers are invited to attend this fun time of interactive play and explore the school! This is free to

all preschoolers and their parents.

WELCOME TO PRESCHOOL!

The Lonedell Preschool classroom is filled with friends and fun things to do. We have a full class of 20 students. We are spending lots of time learning about the rules and expectations at school. This month in preschool we are learn-ing about certain letter sounds and autumn themes. We will be dis-

cussing apple varieties, what kind of apple is our favorite and making applesauce to eat for snack. We also, like to go on nature walks at school to collect leaves as they are falling. We make art and use them for other activities.

Lonedell Cadets

"Hi, my name is Jessika Oloyed and I like being a Cadet because I like I like helping teachers, and the kids so they can learn. I love when the kids try to work hard on their own first, before I help them. My friends and I love to work with Mrs. Green and helping students. This Lonedell R14 school is my family because we all care. I love my school where I a right now because Mrs. Emmons is a great principal, we care about each other and that is what a real family cares about." "I like being a Cadet because ; I get to wear my Cadet lanyard, help Mrs. Green, help teachers and kids in cafeteria and recess." Kala Bacon "I like being a cadet because; I get to help teachers by running er-rands and grading papers, making friends and helping in cafeteria". Angelic Bacon "Hi my name is Jake O'Connor, I like being a cadet because I get to help teachers, play with little kids, and talk to all the teachers. I also like to cadet because it doesn't involve home work and I like Helping the students who need extra care.

What’s Up in Art?

This month, the 6th, 5th, 4th and 1st graders are creating an

OP art design!

OP is short for optical art. It is geometric art in which

patterns of lines and/or color combinations react on the

eye to produce a sense of movement, dazzle or even dis-

comfort. It often stresses illusion of depth or warped sur-

faces.

The students’ drawings are very cool. Look for them at the Fine Arts Fair in the spring!

Smart Snacks in Schools

This year the Smart Snacks in School

nutrition standards are being implemented here at Lonedell R-14.

The USDA has published science-based nutrition standards for foods and drinks sold to students during the school day.

Common-sense standards for fat, saturated fat, sugar, and sodium foods and drinks will be closely monitored.

Also, we will promote foods that have whole grains, low fat dairy, fruits, vegetables, and protein foods as their main

ingredient.

The 5th through 8th grade snack bar, which began September 4, 2014, will be in accordance with these standards.

Menu items include: Capri Sun, Frozen Yogurt, Muffins, Izzy Sparkling Juices, Baked Chips, and Rice Crispy Treats.
