The knurled knob for sett111g the taper should only be used w1rh thP long gL1ide bar approx1-

TOOL RETRACTION AND AUTO NUT ENGAGEMENT

These two ehoracterlsti cs ore a feature of the 25 Pipe Lathe. In operation the engage button moves the tool forward too pre determined depth of cut, and the lead$Crew nuts engage automatically. When the length of thread hos been cut, o pre set limit switch mounted at the left hand side of the saddle automatically retracts the tool and disengcrges the nuh . The saridle is then brought bock to the start position. A further depth of cut is put on by the cross $fide handwheel, and the outomatic cycle is repeated .

The cam which operates the disengagement onrl retraction limit switch i& clomped to the bed shear and is provided wt th micrometer adjustment . Smal I increments of od!ustment should be made ofter every cut, so as to retract the tool eorller as the thread depth increases. Thereby protectiny the tool during thread run out .

Controls are situated at the front of the saddle and comprise o three position switch which ~on be set for retraction when cutting external threads, or internal threads, or a central position when the machine is being used for normal turning. The other two pushbuttons ore for cycle dart and hand or emergency retraction .

The amount of retraction is set by on adjustable screw locoted at the rear of the saddle at the end of the retraction cylinder. The amount of retraction should be the total depth of thread plus clearance, and must be $et before screw cutting commences.

II The operation is Pneumatic and is controlled electricolly. Solenoid valves mounted at the reor of the taper turning attachment ore used for operating both the retraCtion cylinder and the nut engagement cylinder.

The solenoid valves are the type which operate by a pilot air supply, the solenoid core being used to cut off or allow the air supply to operate the valve. An electrical relay Is housed in the some enclosure as the dol vdl ves .

REPLACEMENT VAi VFS Vl solenoid valve is used as purchased, but because of the pneumatic circuit design a simple change hos to be made to valve V2 as purchased .

If V2 has to be replaced proceed O$ fol lows:

1 . 0 Remove screwed plug 11A 11, and extract small rubber washer.

2. 0 Remove screws (2) and seporote valve at "B" . 3.0 Remove '0' Ring ond replace with rubber washer. 4 . 0 Assemble valve. ' 5.0 Discord 10 1 Ring and screwed plug . 6.0 Pipe as circuit diagram.
