    1. CATENARY AND ALIGNMENTS

    Aim - to achieve proper alignment ofvarious rotors, Loading of rotor on Brg.

    Deviation lead to problem high shaftvibration, high brg. Vibration, high babbittmetal temperature of bearing.

    Stages of maintaining catenary- before &after pedestal grouting, during rotoralignment with brg on position.

    2. ASSEMBLY OF BEARING AT SITE

    Measurement of bore dia of brg, journaldia of shaft,

    Measurement of contact surfaces- toruswith pedustal, brg bottom with torus,bearing with shaft journal. (0.03 mmtightness)

    Check for oil openings, cleaning ofpedustal,

    3. COUPLINGS AND ALIGNMENTS OFROTORS

    Function- to connect two or more shafttogether to form a shaft assembly.

    Coupling- measurement of axial run out

    of coupling face, geometry of entirecoupling face i.e. concavity/convexity.

    Rotor align. follow continuous deflection

    curve as per drg of particular machine.Axial & Radial position of two coup. flange

    Casing alignment wrt rotor alignmnt.

    Measure before coupling- coup hole dia,coup bolt dia, spigot / recess of coupling,

    shaft journal diameter. - axial run out of coupling face.

    - radial run out of rotor.

    - Axial clearance (slip gauge), radialclearance (dial gauge) 0f two coupling.

    4. SWING CHECK

    - Swing check is a measurement of radialthrow at the free end of the compltd rotor.

    Swing caused due to non parallelity ofcoup face.

    High swing value causes- high shaftvibration, high brg shell temperature.

    Swing depends upon axial run out ofcoup face, Dia of coup, length of rotor.

    5. AXIAL CLEARANCE TEST (BUMPTEST)

    Movement of shaft in +ve or ve dirctionwhile casing is fixed and radially align.

    Based on bump test rading, axial positionof shaft wrt casing is to be fixed and NOTTO BE ALTERED. (i.e. Rotor Zero Position)

    6. ROLL CHECK

    Measurement of minimum radial clearanceof HP, IP & LP casing by moving the

    casing radially while rotor is rotated byhand.

    Positioning of casing depends on top &

    bottom radial clearances.

    7. HORN DROP TEST

    To determine the loading of the casing on eachcorner.

    Stages of horn drop test- without connecting the

    piping, without connection of breach nut ofHPCV, after completion of all piping connectionto turbine casing.

    This test indicat the quality of work during

    assembly / welding of pipe lines with casings. Problem may cause- high vibration, failure ofbarring gear in hot / cold condition, obstructionduring expansion of machine.

    WELDING OF STEAM INLET ANDEXHAUST PIPE LINES WITH H P

    AND I P CASING

    Floating of piping.

    Adjustment of piping hangers.

    Making free joint at turbine connection.
