Safety instructions

Installation

Warning! Only a qualifiedperson must install thisappliance.

• Remove all the packaging and the transitbolts.

• Do not install or use a damagedappliance.

• Follow the installation instructionsupplied with the appliance.

• Always take care when moving theappliance as it is heavy. Always usesafety gloves and enclosed footwear.

• Make sure the air can circulate aroundthe appliance.

• At first installation or after reversing thedoor wait at least 4 hours beforeconnecting the appliance to the powersupply. This is to allow the oil to flowback in the compressor.

• Before carrying out any operations onthe appliance (e.g. reversing the door),remove the plug from the power socket.

Electrical connection

Warning! Risk of fire andelectrical shock.

• The appliance must be earthed.• Make sure that the parameters on the

rating plate are compatible with theelectrical ratings of the mains powersupply.

• Always use a correctly installedshockproof socket.

• Do not use multi-plug adapters andextension cables.

• Make sure not to cause damage to theelectrical components (e.g. mains plug,mains cable, compressor). Contact theAuthorised Service Centre or anelectrician to change the electricalcomponents.

• The mains cable must stay below thelevel of the mains plug.

• Connect the mains plug to the mainssocket only at the end of the installation.Make sure that there is access to themains plug after the installation.

• Do not pull the mains cable to disconnectthe appliance. Always pull the mainsplug.

Use

Warning! Risk of injury, burns,electrical shock or fire.

• Do not change the specification of thisappliance.

• Do not put electrical appliances (e.g. icecream makers) in the appliance unlessthey are stated applicable by themanufacturer.

• Be careful not to cause damage to therefrigerant circuit. It contains isobutane(R600a), a natural gas with a high levelof environmental compatibility. This gasis flammable.

• If damage occurs to the refrigerantcircuit, make sure that there are noflames and sources of ignition in theroom. Ventilate the room.

• Do not let hot items to touch the plasticparts of the appliance.

• Do not put soft drinks in the freezercompartment. This will create pressureon the drink container.

• Do not store flammable gas and liquid inthe appliance.

• Do not put flammable products or itemsthat are wet with flammable products in,near or on the appliance.

• Do not touch the compressor or thecondenser. They are hot.

• Do not remove or touch items from thefreezer compartment if your hands arewet or damp.

Freezer blocksTwo freezer blocks are supplied in thefreezer; this increase the length of time forwhich food will keep in the event of apower failure or breakdown.

Freezing fresh foodThe freezer compartment is suitable forfreezing fresh food and storing frozen anddeep-frozen food for a long time.To freeze small amount of fresh foods it isnot necessary to change the present setting.To freeze fresh food activate the FastFreezing function at least 24 hours beforeplacing the food to be frozen in the freezercompartment.Place the fresh food to be frozen in thebottom compartment.The maximum amount of food that can befrozen in 24 hours is specified on the rating

plate, a label located on the inside of theappliance.The freezing process lasts 24 hours: duringthis period do not add other food to befrozen.When the freezing process is completed,return to the required temperature (see"Fast Freezing function").

In this condition, the refrigeratorcompartment temperature mightdrop below 0°C. If this occursreset the temperature regulatorto a warmer setting.

Storage of frozen foodWhen activating an appliance for the firsttime or after a period out of use, beforeputting the products in the compartment letthe appliance run at least 2 hours with theFast Freezing function turned on.The freezer drawers ensure that it is quickand easy to find the food package youwant. If large quantities of food are to bestored, remove all drawers except for thebottom drawer which needs to be in placeto provide good air circulation. Keep thefood on all shelves no closer than 15 mmfrom the door.

Warning! In the event ofaccidental defrosting, forexample due to a power failure,if the power has been off forlonger than the value shown inthe technical characteristics chartunder "rising time", the defrostedfood must be consumed quicklyor cooked immediately, cooledand then re-frozen.

ThawingDeep-frozen or frozen food, prior to beingused, can be thawed in the refrigeratorcompartment or at room temperature,depending on the time available for thisoperation.Small pieces may even be cooked stillfrozen, directly from the freezer: in this case,cooking will take longer.

Storage of the food in a fridgecompartmentCover or wrap the food, particularly if it hasa strong flavour.Position the food so that air can circulatefreely around it.

Positioning the door balconies

To permit storage of food packages ofvarious sizes, the door balconies can beplaced at different heights.To make these adjustments proceed asfollows: gradually pull upwards the balconyuntil it comes free, then reposition asdesired.

Movable shelves

The walls of the refrigerator are equippedwith a series of runners so that the safetyglass shelves can be positioned as desired.

Caution! Do not move the glassshelf above the vegetabledrawer to ensure correct aircirculation.

Bottle rackPlace the bottles (with the opening facingfront) in the pre-positioned rack.

If the rack is positionedhorizontally, place only closedbottles.

This bottle rack can be tilted to storeunsealed bottles. To obtain this result, placefront hooks of the rack one level higher thanthe rear hooks.

Vegetable Drawers

Fruit and vegetables should be placed inthese drawers (see the picture).

The freezing baskets have a limit stop toprevent their accidental removal or fallingout.At the time of its removal from the freezer,pull the basket towards yourself (1) and,upon reaching the end point, remove thebasket by tilting its front upwards (2).At the time of putting it back, slightly lift thefront of the basket to insert it into thefreezer. Once you are over the end points,push the baskets back in their position.

Fan - coolingThe fan - cooling function lets food coolquickly and keeps a more uniformtemperature in the compartment.

Switch on the fan - coolingfunction when the ambienttemperature exceeds 25°C.

The activation of the fan -cooling function increases energyconsumption.

1. Press switch (A) to activate fan -cooling .

The green light (B) appears.

Hints and tips

Normal operating soundsThe following sounds are normal duringoperation:• A faint gurgling and bubbling sound

from coils sound when refrigerant ispumped.

• A whirring and pulsating sound from thecompressor when refrigerant is pumped.

• A sudden cracking noise from insideappliance caused by thermic dilatation(a natural and not dangerous physicalphenomenon).

• A faint click noise from the temperatureregulator when the compressor switcheson or off.

Hints for energy saving• Do not open the door frequently or leave

it open longer than absolutely necessary.

Hints for fresh food refrigerationTo obtain the best performance:• do not store warm food or evaporating

liquids in the refrigerator• do cover or wrap the food, particularly if

it has a strong flavour• position food so that air can circulate

freely around it

Hints for refrigerationUseful hints:• Meat (all types): wrap in a suitable

packaging and place it on the glass shelfabove the vegetable drawer. Store meatfor at most 1-2 days.

• Cooked foods, cold dishes: cover andplace on any shelf.

• Fruit and vegetables: clean thoroughlyand place in a special drawer. Bananas,

• Bottles: close with a cap and place onthe door bottle shelf, or (if available) onthe bottle rack.

Hints for freezingTo help you make the most of the freezingprocess, here are some important hints:• the maximum quantity of food which can

be frozen in 24 hours is shown on therating plate;

• the freezing process takes 24 hours nofurther food to be frozen should beadded during this period;

• freeze only top quality, fresh andthoroughly cleaned, foodstuffs;

• prepare food in small portions to enableit to be rapidly and completely frozenand to make it possible subsequently tothaw only the quantity required;

• wrap up the food in aluminium foil orpolythene and make sure that thepackages are airtight;

• do not allow fresh, unfrozen food totouch food which is already frozen, thus

avoiding a rise in temperature of thelatter;

• lean foods store better and longer thanfatty ones; salt reduces the storage life offood;

• water ices, if consumed immediatelyafter removal from the freezercompartment, can possibly cause the skinto be freeze burnt;

• it is advisable to show the freezing indate on each individual pack to enableyou to keep tab of the storage time.

Hints for storage of frozen foodTo obtain the best performance from thisappliance, you should:• make sure that the commercially frozen

foodstuffs were adequately stored by theretailer;

• be sure that frozen foodstuffs aretransferred from the foodstore to thefreezer in the shortest possible time;

• not open the door frequently or leave itopen longer than absolutely necessary;

• once defrosted, food deterioratesrapidly and cannot be refrozen;

• do not exceed the storage periodindicated by the food manufacturer.

Cleaning the interiorBefore using the appliance for the first time,the interior and all internal accessoriesshould be washed with lukewarm waterand some neutral soap to remove thetypical smell of a brand-new product, thendried thoroughly.

Caution! Do not use detergentsor abrasive powders, as thesewill damage the finish.

Initial power on

Caution! Before inserting thepower plug in to the outlet andswitching on the cabinet for thefirst time, leave the appliancestanding upright for at least 4hours. This will assure a sufficientamount of time for the oil toreturn to the compressor.Otherwise the compressor orelectronic components maysustain damage.

Periodic cleaning

Caution! Do not pull, move ordamage any pipes and/orcables inside the cabinet.

Caution! Do not damage thecooling system.

Caution! When moving thecabinet, lift it by the front edge toavoid scratching the floor.

The equipment has to be cleaned regularly:1. Clean the inside and accessories with

lukewarm water and some neutral soap.2. Regularly check the door seals and wipe

clean to ensure they are clean and freefrom debris.

3. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

4. If accessible, clean the condenser andthe compressor at the back of theappliance with a brush.This operation will improve theperformance of the appliance and saveenergy consumption.

Periods of non-operationWhen the appliance is not in use for longperiods, take the following precautions:1. Disconnect the appliance from electricity

supply.2. Remove all food.3. Clean the appliance and all accessories.4. Leave the door/doors open to prevent

unpleasant smells.Warning! If you want to keep theappliance switched on, asksomebody to check it once in awhile to prevent the food insidefrom spoiling in case of a powerfailure.

Defrosting of the refrigerator

Frost is automatically eliminated from theevaporator of the refrigerator compartmentevery time the motor compressor stops,during normal use. The defrost water drainsout through a trough into a specialcontainer at the back of the appliance, overthe motor compressor, where it evaporates.It is important to periodically clean thedefrost water drain hole in the middle of the

refrigerator compartment channel toprevent the water overflowing and drippingonto the food inside.

Defrosting the freezerThe freezer compartment is frost free. Thismeans that there is no build up of frost

when it is in operation, neither on theinternal walls nor on the foods.

damage caused by failure to observeoperating instructions, incorrectinstallation or by connection to thewrong voltage, damage caused bychemical or electro-chemical reaction,rust, corrosion or water damageincluding but not limited to damagecaused by excessive lime in the watersupply, damage caused by abnormalenvironmental conditions.

• Consumable parts including batteriesand lamps.

• Non-functional and decorative partswhich do not affect normal use of theappliance, including any scratches andpossible color differences.

• Accidental damage caused by foreignobjects or substances and cleaning orunblocking of filters, drainage systems orsoap drawers.

• Damage to the following parts: ceramicglass, accessories, crockery and cutlerybaskets, feed and drainage pipes, seals,lamps and lamp covers, screens, knobs,casings and parts of casings. Unless suchdamages can be proved to have beencaused by production faults.

• Cases where no fault could be foundduring a technician’s visit.

• Repairs not carried out by our appointedservice providers and/or an authorizedservice contractual partner or wherenon-original parts have been used.

• Repairs caused by installation which isfaulty or not according to specification.

• The use of the appliance in a non-domestic environment i.e. professionaluse.

• Transportation damages. If a customertransports the product to their home orother address, IKEA is not liable for anydamage that may occur during transport.However, if IKEA delivers the product tothe customer's delivery address, thendamage to the product that occursduring this delivery will be covered bythis guarantee.

• Cost for carrying out the initialinstallation of the IKEA appliance.However, if an IKEA service provider orits authorized service partner repairs orreplaces the appliance under the termsof this guarantee, the service provider orits authorized service partner will re-install the repaired appliance or installthe replacement, if necessary.
