Prosthetic Tints Cosmetic Tints Visibility Tints
VISIBILTY OR HANDLING TINT
SCL are usually white and transparent.
certain tints like the light blue or green transparent tints are added to improve the visibility of the lens to the patient during lens handling procedures.
These do not affect the eye colour when worn.
COSMETIC TINT They are used to enhance or change the
eye colour.
They available in plain and powers.
They are of two types Transparent
OpaqueThe tinted zone of the soft lens covers the
iris colour and changes or enhances it.
TRANSPARENT TINTS
These lenses transmit 70 % of the light.
They are available in various shades.
The tints is in the form of a concentric ring which has clear center pupil.
OPAQUE TINT

They have an iris pattern with a clear central pupil.
The clear pupil is typically 5mm in diameter.
PROSTHETIC CONTACT LENS

PMMA or RGP LENSES
SOFT LENSES
SCLERAL LENSESADVANTAGES
When a corneal lens will not centre on the cornea, When one wishes to improve the appearance of the
sclera
Stable, durable & easy to maintain
DISADVANTAGES Require greater level of expertise to fit
Expensive
PMMA OR RGP LENSESINDICATIONS Disfigured corneas with irregular
astigmatism Disfigured eyes with moderate to severe
neovascularization
CONTRAINDICATION
Should not be used to mask anomalies that affect peripheral parts of cornea or large portions of the eye.
SOFT LENSES
INDICATIONS
When a significant proportion of the anterior eye is disfigured
When the patient is a previous soft contact lens wearer
When the patient only wants to wear the lens occasionally
SOFT LENSES - CONTRAINDICATIONS
Eyes with moderate to advanced neovascularization
Moderate to extreme dry eye
Irregular astigmatism
People with motor coordination problem

FITTING REQUIREMENTS
MEASURE THE IRIS DIAMETER OF THE FELLOW EYE AND ORDER IT THE SAME
NOTE THE IRIS COLOUR AND WHAT TYPE OF TINT IS REQUIRED
MEASURE THE DIAMETER OF PUPIL OF THE FELLOW EYE
SPECIFY WHETHER A BLACK CLEAR OR TINTED PUPIL IS REQUIRED
WHEN REORDERING TINTED LENSES KEEP THE LENS MATERIAL THE SAME
PROBLEMS Toxic effects
Corneal oedema
Other problems _almost the same as faced with standard soft lenses
LENS CARE
Same as other lenses
Soft solutions can be used
ANY DOUBTSSSS?
