men's basketball, track and field, and baseball at the University of Iowa.Burney came to the University of Iowa from Colgate University, where he served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach since June 2005. Burney was responsible for the strength and conditioning of 23 Division I athletic teams. While at Colgate, Burney trained six football All-Americans and numerous NHL draft picks and professional hockey players. Colgate football won the 2005 and 2008 Patriot League titles and the 2005-06 ECAC Hockey League title. Burney also designed student-athlete competitions for the Lift for Life event to raise money for the Uplifting Athletes organization to benefit rare diseases. Burney is a 1997 graduate of Central College in Iowa, where he completed a bachelor's degree in physical education.

Jason Miller, MS, CSCS Associate Director of Athletic Health & Performance, North Dakota State UniversityJason is in his sixth year as the Associate Director of Athletic Performance at North Dakota State University and is directly responsible for the training of men’s

basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball and men’s and women’s track and field while assisting with football.Prior to his arrival at NDSU, he was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Long Beach State University from 2002-05. He also served as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Northern Michigan University from 2000-02. Miller graduated from Minot State University in 2000 with a degree in corporate fitness and from Northern Michigan University with a master’s degree in exercise science in 2002.

Andrew Shim, EdD, CSCSUSAW Sports Performance Coach, University of South DakotaAndrew has been involved with the fitness industry by consulting with major companies, magazines, and fitness organizations nation-wide. He is the

Division Chair/Graduate Coordinator of Kinesiology & Sport Science at The University of South Dakota. He is also one of the lead researchers for Iron Wear Fitness (Pittsburgh, PA.), a member on the Fitness Board of Advisors for Physicalfitnet.com (Manhattan, NY.), and serves on the President's Council on Physical Fitness, State of South Dakota Coordinator for the Presidential Fitness Challenge. He still competes in strength and muscular endurance contests and currently performs research in the area of strength, stability, and metabolism at the University of South Dakota.

Intended Audience:The Sanford POWER Strength & Conditioning Clinic is intended for those in professions that help to develop athletes. This includes high school/college coaches, exercise specialists, personal trainers, athletic trainers, physical therapists, college students and others that may have interest in gaining knowledge in athletic strength and conditioning.

Goals and Objectives: The goal of this clinic is to provide ground based training techniques to improve overall athletic performance. Learn from some of the nation's best strength and speed coaches. The following continuing education credits are available:• BOC-CEU: Sanford USD Medical Center (P2211) is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers. Sanford USD Medical Center designates this continuing education for 12 CEU's for Athletic Trainers.• NSCA Continuing Education Credits (1.2)• Continuing Educational Credit (College – 1 credit), graduate or undergraduate. Featured Clinicians: Cal Dietz, MEd Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, University of MinnesotaCal has been the Head Olympic Strength and Conditioning coach for numerous sports at the University of Minnesota since 2000. Since Dietz’s return to Minnesota he

has developed the Strength and Conditioning Programs and over seen the daily progress in Men’s Hockey from 2000-present, Men’s’ Basketball from 2004-present, Women’s Hockey from 2003-present, Men’s Golf from 2000-present, Men’s Swimming from 2000-Present, Track and Field from 2000-present, Baseball from 2000-2007, and Wrestling from 2000 to 2004. During his tenure, Dietz has trained: a Hobey Baker Award winner, two Big Ten Athletes of the Year, athletes that have achieved 375 All-American honors, 27 Big Ten/WCHA championships teams and 7 NCAA Team Champions, and 13 teams finish in the top four in the nation. He has consulted with Olympic and World Champions in various sports and professional athletes in the NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB, and Professional Boxing.

Jason Dorman, MS, CSCSProject Manager, National Institute for Athletic Health & Performance at SanfordJason has his Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning

Association. Jason worked as a Sport Science Intern at the US Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY and also as a Post-Graduate Scholar in the exercise physiology department at the Australian Institute of Sport. Jason has tested and advised myriad high school, collegiate, and professional athletes in numerous sports, including gold medal and world record-breaking Olympic athletes.

Melissa Moyer, PT, DPT, ATCPhysical Therapist, Sanford HealthMelissa graduated with a BS in Athletic Training from South Dakota State University in 2005. She then obtained her doctorate in Physical Therapy at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA

in 2007. She continued Athletic Training with the SAU football & VB team while in PT school. In 2009 she completed an Orthopedic Residency for Physical Therapy. Melissa has been working as a member of our Sports Medicine team here at Sanford for the past two years.

Steve Young, PT, MSPT, CSCS, FAFSPhysical Therapist, Sanford HealthSteve is a former student athlete and graduate of the University of South Dakota: BS in Psychology 2001 and MS in Physical Therapy 2003. He obtained his CSCS through the NSCA in 2002. He is a fellow

of Applied Functional Science (AFS) through the Gray Institute and is certified in FMR (Functional Manual Reaction).

Kelly Vanhove, MS, ATC, CSCSAthletic Trainer, Sanford HealthKelly is a South Dakota native from Howard. He graduated from SDSU in 2003 with a bachelor’s in Athletic Training. Kelly then went to Arkansas State University and received his Master’s in Exercise Science.

From 2006-09, Kelly worked in the Chicago Cubs Minor League System. He spent one year in Short Season A Ball in Boise, ID and two years in Peoria, IL working Low A Ball. He is a fellow of Applied Functional Science (AFS) through the Gray Institute. Currently, he runs the Transition Sports Rehabilitation program for Sanford Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
