Our students in Stage 3 who attended the Lake Keepit excursion last week had a wonderful time. From activities using the ropes, kayaking and a fabulous mud run, I know Miss Kelly and Mr Cracknell enjoyed spending time with you all and especially enjoyed seeing your personal growth and ability to work together. I also know just how tired Miss Kelly and Mr Cracknell were Friday afternoon and I’m sure all students were early to bed Friday evening as well. Thank you Miss Kelly for your organisation of this wonderful opportunity for our students and to Mr Cracknell for filling in the during the absence of Mrs Morrish.

Our Kindergarten Bright Stars Transition program continues this week. Last week, our impending students enjoyed physical activities in the hall with the basis of fundamental movements the focus. Mrs Lawrence has been using these days to see the interactions of the children and prepare their portfolio of work for presentation to parents at the conclusion of transition. These packages are always well received. This week, it is the last of the small sessions with two full days to finish the transition program. Thank you Mrs Lawrence for your support of our impending 2020 Kindergarten students.

This week we held another session with Dr Kate Bricknell for our writing program with students in years 2 and 4 the focus. At the end of the day, Dr Bricknell reflected on the progress of our students since we commenced this initiative approximately 4 years ago. Our students are now able to compose a writing piece within a specified time period. It may sound like this is an easily achievable target, however if parents cast their minds back to sitting an HSC exam, you may now realise the trepidation some students feel when in an environment that pressures an individual to write for a certain time. Dr Bricknell has one final session with our students this term and then she will be working with our staff on the refinement of our English

scope and sequence of learning in conjunction with our other key learning areas.

CAPERS rehearsals are gaining momentum with a dress rehearsal scheduled this week at school and another dress rehearsal set for the TREC next week. Seeing our students with their costumes on Monday afternoon was fabulous. The bright colours are certainly indicative of a carnivale theme and they will look spectacular under the bright lights of a massed performance. Miss Magann has done a wonderful job in ensuring our students are ready. Please ensure you get your tickets for the performances. You won’t be disappointed!

This Thursday, we have our assembly. Our hosts are 1/2B with a performance by 2L. The assembly is scheduled to commence at 2:30pm in our hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.

This week the focus for PBL is the expectations when using the front office. These expectations are underpinned by the core values Safe and Effective Learners.

Our students are very accustomed to the practices of the front office and know the expectations right from Kindergarten. At time, we may need reminders. However, this is rare.

This week’s lesson has classes going to the front office to have a thorough walk through with the explicit teaching of the expected behaviour.

The poster for the front office is below.

Arrangements have been made to provide the Intensive Swimming Scheme at Kootingal Public School.

The Department of Education and Training School Swimming Scheme is an intensive learn-to-swim program, which develops water confidence and provides students with basic skills in water safety and survival. The Scheme is conducted over ten days. Each daily lesson is 1 hour.

The Scheme focuses on swimmers in Years 2 and 3 but provides for swimmers who lack confidence in Years 4 to 6, students with special needs (such as new arrivals in Australia) and students with disabilities. Non-swimmers, i.e. students who have not reached a satisfactory standard of water safety and survival skills, and are UNABLE to swim 25m confidently unaided in deep water, are eligible to participate in the School Swimming Scheme. Instruction will take place at Kootingal Swimming Pool. Students will be supervised by Mrs Tennille Lulham and other staff members, depending on which classes are most affected. The Scheme will continue daily for two weeks from Friday 1st November to Friday 15th November (excluding Wednesday 13th November).

Cost will by $3 per day for entry to the pool. If you need another note please see the attached or contact Mrs Lulham ASAP.
