Somewhere in the shadows

there lurks a killer, a masked

'clad-in-black' sadist who has bru-

tally killed a young woman and even

left a message written in her blood

'Kutiya'. Everybody's usual suspect

is her husband, the 'Mast' lad Aftab.

But there is the gorgeous lawyer,

Lisa Ray who thinks otherwise. And

when the twosome get a bit cozy,

a 'dangerous passion' begins.

This Vikram Bhatt film marks the

debut of Lisa Ray and the second com-

ing of Aftab Shivdasani. Although the

core the film is loosely based on the

Hollywood flick The Jagged Edge, Bhatt

has convincingly spun a gripping yarn,

punctuated it with unexpected twists

and turns and concluded with blood

curdling climax thereby leaving no

loose ends to distract the viewers.

Set in a remote rural village in North, young couple Sarju and Radha represent the spirit of

young India and their dynamism represents the change of times.

Radha is more rooted and attached to her soil whereas Sarju desires and aspires to

conquer the skies. The two contradictory faces of the same coin, together, represent the

universal dilemma of today's youth and its very own search of identity.

They become the faces of India more self assured than ever, less apologetic about their

being than the older generation, at times aggres-

sive and idealist… at times manipulative and con-

niving… at times tactless as well yet their charm

is unarming when one witnesses their indomi-

table phoenix like spirit.

This is the story of Rani, a young village girl,

whose only dream is to make her family

proud and happy. She is innocent, shy and

simple. Her mother is the bread-earner of the

family after Rani's father passed away. Rani

has a younger brother and a Dadi who are

very loving. Like every other girl of her age,

Rani has also woven her dream world where

her Prince Charming would arrive one day and

take her to his kingdom.

Rani has seen her mother slogging to give

them good education and a better life. Rani's

uncle is eyeing her family's small piece of land

but his plans are foiled by educated Rani.

Once, Rajmata visits the village along with

the Prince. He falls in love with Rani's voice,

when he hears her sing in the temple. Rajmata

takes Rani with her to be one of the maids in

the palace.

This story is about Rani's journey from no-

body to winning the heart of the young prince

and her acceptance as the Bahu of the Royal

Family, for whom she worked for as a ser-

vant.

He is a true blue

Kapoor, says

Kareena Kapoor

about cousin Ranbir, who

she feels should take

charge of RK Films and

carry the family legacy

forward. The Kapoor

women have done their bit

and made the family proud.

But it would be fantastic to

see Ranbir take charge of

RK Films.

Yesteryear actor

Randhir Kapoor has been

in the news for the past

one year, thanks to his

plans of reviving the half-

a-century-old family ban-

ner, RK Films.

"I'd like Ranbir to take

the RK legacy forward. It'd

be fantastic to see him take

charge of the family ban-

ner and take it to the

heights that Dadaji (Raj

Kapoor) and Bade Dadaji

(Prithviraj Kapoor) took it to.

I'm sure he'll deliver. After

all, he's a true blue

Kapoor," says Kareena.

If dad ever makes his

film under the RK banner, I

would definitely want to be

part of it in any which way

possible," she replies.

Kareena also feels that

had her grandfather Raj

Kapoor been alive, he'd

have been proud of her

work. "He would've patted

my back. And why just me?

He would have been proud

of Karisma and Ranbir, too.

It's for the first time that an

entire generation of a film

family has been so suc-

cessful."

Vidya Balan, who is playing Amitabh

Bachchan's mother in "Paa", says

that now she can proudly tell ev-

eryone that the 67-year-old megastar was

her first child.

"After this role, I can proudly tell my

children and grandchildren that Big B was

my first child. Not even in my wildest

dreams had I thought of playing mother to

the living legend of the industry," said

Vidya Balan.

"It was a humbling experience

to work with Bachchanji. This is a

very special movie for me," she

added.

Also, Vidya was so im-

pressed by Abhishek's caring

behaviour towards his father

during the shooting that she con-

fesses she would like to have a

son like Abhishek in real life.

"I would prefer a son like

Abhishek. I have seen him with his

father on the sets... he was so nice

to his father that I was touched, "

Vidya told reporters.

When the director approached

her for the role, she wasn't sure

about playing the mother of a

progeric child. "Initially, I won-

dered how to do the role as

I didn't have that motherly

instinct. But while working

on the film I realized what moth-

erhood is, "said Vidya.

She says playing

Amitabh's mother w a s n ' t

difficult at all. "I was a bit con-

cerned initially but it w a s

smooth sail once

we started work-

ing together."

Shiney Ahuja's image may have suffered

a big blow after the rape charges

against him, but Soha Ali Khan, his co-

star in Ek Accident, refuses to be judgmental

about the actor.

"He has not been judged yet, and I am a

very open-minded person. I choose not to be

judgmental about him and wish to complete

my professional obligations," said Soha. The

31-year-old actress denied reports that she

had problems in shooting Ek Accident with

Shiney. When asked whether she had any

apprehensions about working with the actor,

Soha said, "Not at all.

We shared a very professional relation-

ship and treated each other with a lot of re-

spect. I know that respect will continue when

I shoot with him again."

The actress, whose film Tum Mile is doing

Soha willingwell, says that she was skeptical about her

pairing with Emraan Hashmi in the film.

"I never thought we would be cast to-

gether in a film, or if we would have any chem-

istry. I was also terrified of his serial kisser

image. Recalling her memories of the Mumbai

floods, on which the film is based, Soha says,

"I was stuck in an unknown location for 40

hours. I spent the night at a stranger's house,

lost my slipper, and my phone stopped work-

ing. It was very scary. In fact, I became hy-

drophobic after that."

Another thing that scared her as much as

the Mumbai floods was working with her

mother Sharmila Tagore in Life Goes On. "She

knows my expressions and what I am going

to do. Working with her was as scary as the

Mumbai floods. After my first film, she had

given me a long list of things I needed to work

on. I am waiting for her response to Tum Mile."

Asin has been bombarded with ques

tions from her fans ever since her sec

ond Bollywood film, London Dreams,

didnít do well.

They have asked her why she needed to

sign a film where she didnít have much of a

role. Asin has replied saying that for a begin-

ner, it is a huge accomplishment to have acted

with three of the industryís most popular ac-

tors in her first two movies itself.

And she stated that at this point sheís sim-

ply going with the flow and not thinking about

anything much.

Clean VivekI

f those who found Vivek Oberoi's

moustache so off-putting then there

is good news. Once again, one can

relish his clean-shaven looks, as the flam-

boyant actor has finally razed-off his bushy

moustache.

Vivek had been sporting this most-talked-

about moustache from last 55 days for his

dramatic new avatar in the forthcoming film

Rakta Charitra. He was for the first time spot-

ted in this avatar at 40 years celebration at

the Indo-American Chambers where people

failed to recognize him at one look.

Right from the first film Vivek has been

guising himself to perfection, and gets into

the skin of all his screen characters. Now

when he has finally bid farewell to his mous-

tache he will be seen flashing his chikna

look during the promotion of Saifeena starrer

'Kurbaan'.

As h u t o s h

Gowarikerís

film has been

in news for over a

month over the casting.

The buzz had it that

Aishwarya was ap-

proached to play the fe-

male lead, but the lady

denied any such re-

ports. Then, it was Asin

who was zeroed in to

star opposite Abhishek

Bachchan but she eas-

ily opted out.

Now we hear that

Sonam too has turned

down to be the female

lead in Gowariker’s pe-

riod movie ‘Khelen Hum

Jee Jaan Se’ that now

has Abhishek and

Deepika Padukone in

lead roles. Reportedly,

Sonam was skeptical of

pairing again with

Abhishek as their last

movie, Delhi-6, was a

dud.

Also, Gowariker’slast movie ‘What’s Your

Rashee?’ also failed to

create any impact at the

box-office. So, the

Kapoor girl acted smart

to cite date problems and

steer clear of any more

flops.

Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar starred

in many successful films together

like Namastey London, Welcome

and Singh is Kinng and they are hopeful

to act in few more. During filming, they

came closer and got to know many se-

crets of one another. Katrina reveals one

such secret about Akshay Kumar.

Not only on-screen, off-screen

also they are constantly into fun and

merry- making. Kat unearthed the

fact that Akki is very much at-

tached to his phone.

"Akshay loves his phone…

Shahid Kapoor is a celebrated vegetar

ian. It has been the reason of his glory

and woes. While in one hand he was

awarded with the title of the sexiest veggie

for it, it was also apparently one of the rea-

sons of his differences with Kareena

Kapoor. However, now the sexy veggie is

feeling prejudiced because of his fancy for

the greens. Whenever he goes abroad he

has to get food specially cooked for him as

the hotels rely more on people's meat eating

habits. And all this is making Shahid very

jittery to go to Bangkok.

Shahid, who is off to shoot for Yash Raj

Films' untitled film, directed by Parmeet Sethi,

is worried that he won't get sufficient vari-

ety of vegetarian food in Bangkok. Shahid

also had a tough time for the same reason in

the US where he stayed for 40 days last

month while shooting for the same film. His

man had to especially instruct the chefs in

the hotel what he likes and dislikes so that

they could accordingly cook for him.

Sonam too!

Secrets he is on phone all the time. It is only when the

shot is ready that he agrees to hang up." Akshay

retaliates, "Katrina takes so much time to get

ready that while she does so, I can finish all my

work and shoot for my bit."

They will be next seen in Priyadarshan's 'De

Dana Dan'.

He was seen only

in a cameo in Ajab

Kahani but Upen Patel is

already a 'millionaire'. He

has been roped in as a

brand ambassador of the

clothing line Millionaire

which is looking at mak-

ing its presence felt in a

big way in India. Upen has

recently signed a two

year contract with Million-

aire and the promotional

campaign is already on an

upswing.

Confirms Upen who is

taking it slow before get-

ting ready with his next

big announcement

around a Bollywood

project, "Millionaire is tar-

geted at youth; something

which goes with my

standing as well. They

wanted someone young

to promote their brand and

I was glad to pick up this

assignment."

To begin with, just

Mumbai will see as many

as 100 hoardings all over

the city, hence making it

one of the widest public-

ity campaigns ever.

Before Upen, Urmila

Matondkar was the brand

ambassador of Millionaire.

Kelly Dorjee and Dino

Morea are now

history for actress

Lara Dutta for the stun-

ner has gone ahead and

chosen her man of the

moment and that's none

other than tennis ace

Mahesh Bhupathi.

According to reports,

the duo is apparently liv-

ing-in together in London

as Lara has ample time to

spend with beau these

days.

Though the reports of

an affair between Lara

and Mahesh have been

doing the rounds for

some time now but Lara

(who recently split from

Dino Morea) has been dis-

missing the link-up as rub-

bish, saying Mahesh's ce-

lebrity management com-

pany handles her portfo-

lio and this is the only con-

nection she has with him.

‘Millionaire is targeted at youth;something which goes with mystanding as well. They wantedsomeone young to promote theirbrand and I was glad to pick upthis assignment’

But what's peculiar here is the fact

that the two have been spotted in London

quite a few times. They are said to have

checked into JW Marriott hotel and are

apparently staying in the same suite.

Shilpa Shetty might have care

fully devised her wedding

guest list, giving a royal miss

to ex-lover Akshay Kumar, but the

brass band that was called in to play

at her marriage brought back the

memories of her sour love affair.

Just before the pheras were about

to begin, the band started playing

some romantic love songs from

Akshay Kumar-Shilpa Shetty starrer

'Dhadkan', giving a shock to all

present. Members from Kundra and

Shetty families rushed to instruct them

to stop the music immediately.

They were categorically told,

`Akshay ki film ka gaana mat bajao`."

In fact the band members were

asked to stop the music until further

orders. They started playing a fresh

batch of songs only around 5 pm, and

this time, of course, they didn't have

any Akshay song on their list. It was

quite a hilarious situation. We won-

der what was going on in Shilpa and

Raj`s mind at that moment when this

incident happened, said an eyewit-

ness.

MUMBAI: At the stroke of the twilight hour on Sunday Nov 22, Shilpa Shetty

wed long-time beau Raj Kundra. The godhuli lagna had specifically been chosen

by her mother Sunanda and the family astrologer since it's considered to be the

most auspicious time for a wedding this year. It was a traditional south Indian

Bunt ceremony at her best friend Kiran Bawa's bungalow in Khandala.

Shilpa wore a traditional red and gold south Indian brocade sari designed

embellished all over with ruby and Swarovski pearls. It was designed by Tarun

Tahiliani. Designer-duo Shantanu-Nikhil designed a maroon and gold sherwani

for Raj. Shilpa wore a kamarbandh with rubies and Swarovski crystals, while

Raj wore a neckpiece with precious stones.

Shilpa had first met Raj in 2007 when she won the reality show Celebrity Big

Brother in the UK. They are also business associates, co-owning the Indian

Premier League team Rajasthan Royals and a food chain in UK.

The reception at Grand Hyatt

hotel two days later was a filmy af-

fair, laced with glitter, glamour and

of course hi-fi stars.

Shilpa, standing with husband

Raj and her extended family on the

dais, greeted everyone with a warm

smile. The two then cut their 9-tier

wedding cake as the guests raised

a toast to them. With wine and gour-

met dishes from across the world,

everyone was seen having a gala

time. Even though gifts were a big

no-no, Amitabh and Aishwarya

Bachchan walked in with a big one

in hand. Then there was Rekha who

came post 11 pm wearing an ex-

quisite saree, laden with gold and

sindoor. It was only after midnight

that Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan,

Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan,

Riteish Deshmukh, Juhi Chawla,

Fardeen Khan with wife Natasha,

Lalit Modi and Sanjay Kapoor walked

in. Since they all came in at the same

time, the photographers had quite a

time getting them all to pose for pic-

tures. That's when SRK took the lead

and arranged all the stars in a row

and asked them to pose along with

him!

In 1998, rock music had a shot in

the arm with the emer-gence of

Grunge. The voice of teenage

angst found an audience across

the globe and rock music seemed

like it was on the threshold of be-

coming the leader in mainstream mu-

sic. Magik was one such band that

wished to ride this wave. Aditya

Shroff, a bohemian wild boy from

Delhi who left the comforts of his

parents home to chase his dream

of becoming a singer in a rock band.

He is the lead singer of Magik.

Joe Masceranous is an Idealist.

He hails from a family of failed mu-

sicians and hence feels the pres-

sure of not succumbing to the

legacy. A man of few words, he

lets his guitar do the talking. He is

the lead guitarist of the band. Kedar

Zaveri, prefers to be known as KD

Killer Drummer. On stage it may look

like he is slamming those drums with

a vengeance but actually, he's only

just breathing. He is the heart of

Magik. Rob Nancy, the laid back quiet

fence sitter of the band. Just to ex-

perience the moment of his creation

was to be in the presence of some-

thing truly ethereal.

This story about the four young

friends who put together the great-

est band this country had ever seen

but never made it. Years later fate

conspires to bring them together

again and sets them on a journey

back to where they left off. A soul

searching pilgrimage into their past.

Just like an old Indian saying, if one

dies without fulfilling a cherished

dream he will be re-born to have

another shot at it. The four of them

came from different walks of life

but when they jammed together

they were One. If Aditya was the

mind then Joe was the will, KD the

heart and Rob the soul. Together

they were Pure Magik.

It was a tough role re-

versal for Abhishek

Bachchan who plays

father to Amitabh

Bachchan in "Paa" but the

young actor chooses to

train the spotlight on Big B,

saying that the veteran

has delivered his best per-

formance till date in the film.

"'Paa' will be his best

performance till date but at

the same time with every

character Paa plays, he

improves and gives his

best. I would say that he

always comes out with his

best till date with every

new role," Abhishek said

in an interview.

In the movie, director R

Balakrishnan, has pre-

sented the 67-year-old

megastar as a child suf-

fering from the rare dis-

ease of progeria, which

makes him age fast. But

Abhishek said that Paa,

where Big B plays a 13-

year-old boy suffering

from progeria, a rare ge-

netic disorder, which ac-

celerates ageing, is a

simple, light hearted and

happy film.

"Paa is not a film about

progeria. It is a happy film

about a father and his son

and the sweet moments

that they share," Abhishek

said.

Abhishek said that he

instantly agreed when

Balki narrated him the story

as it was a lifetime oppor-

tunity for him.

"When Balki first told

me, 'I want you to play fa-

ther and son' my first re-

action was 'What's new in

that?', he then added 'I

want you to play the fa-

ther and Amitabh

Bachchan the son' This

was an opportunity of a

lifetime," he said.

The actor who has

shared the screen with his

legendary father in films

like 'Bunty aur Bubli', 'Kabhi

Alvida Na Kehna', 'Sarkar',

said that he enjoyed the

father-son bond on the

sets of their latest film.

"Balki's brief to me was

very simple, I had to be best

friends with my father's

character 'Auro' through-

out the film, and since Paa

and I are best of friends in

real life too I really enjoyed

playing Paa's Paa!" said the

actor.

When asked whether it

was tough playing the fa-

ther of his real father,

Abhishek said that he en-

joyed the unique experience

thoroughly.

"Actually, it has not been

tough at all. I would say it

was the exact opposite, it

was a lot of fun," he said.

The idea to cast Amitabh

Bachchan as Abhishek's

son in 'Paa' struck filmmaker

R. Balakrishnan when he

watched the father-son duo

together and observed a

high level of maturity in the

latter's behaviour.

'My main aim was not to

make a film on progeria. My

main motive behind making

'Paa' was to reverse the

roles of Amitabh and

Abhishek. I decided to do

something like this because

once I was with both of them

and I saw Abhishek behav-

ing in a very matured man-

ner. It was then that this idea

struck me,' Balakrishnan,

who is known as Balki, said.

The director revealed

that he got to know about

progeria, the premature

ageing disease, much later

and used it to make his film

look real instead of a fan-

tasy fare.

Balki, who had cast

Amitabh in his directorial de-

but 'Cheeni Kum', says he

was convinced that Amitabh

was right for the role in 'Paa'

right from the inception of the

idea.

'I was convinced from

the very beginning that

Amitabh will be best suited

for this role.

Page 26: KonnecTV

He has given brilliant per-

formances before, but this

is his most mind blowing

performance,' he said.

'For the role, he had to

be completely different

from his real self. For an

actor to give a perfor-

mance away from his per-

sonality is a very difficult

thing,' he added.

Balki is also impressed

with Abhishek and Vidya

Balan, who play Amitabh's

parents in the film.

'Abhishek is a very

sensitive, understated and

subtle actor. As an actor

and as a son you need

courage to play father to

your father in a film. It's

extremely difficult but he

has done a great job,' he

said.

'As far as Vidya is

concerned, I believe

that she is the fin-

est actress we

have today.

She can play

mature roles as

well as exhibit

childish quali-

ties in her,' he

said.

arduous make-up proce-

dure used to take more

than four hours.

Amitabh Bachchan

says, "I was apprehensive

initially. No one's done

something like this before.

But full marks to Balki for

convincing me. We sat

down, worked on the

script and I knew instantly

that this was a challenge

that I needed to take," he

says when quizzed about

his decision to do the film.

But for the man, the

most challenging part

came in the form of make-

up. "It would take four to

five hours everyday for me

to put on my make-up and

another two hours to take

it off. That was more chal-

lenging than anything else

as it was a test of endur-

ance and patience."

If the make-up depart-

ment sapped him off en-

ergy, it was his on-screen

father who made up for a

lot of things. And the

choice of beta Abhishek

playing his paa on-

screen came as a shock

to Bachchan himself ini-

tially.

"That was another

surprise that Balki threw

at us. But then, Abhishek

has great calibre as an

actor and he is the right

choice for the role. Look,

both Abhi and I are main-

stream actors. We

wouldn't like to pass on a

unique role like this that

comes our way once in a

while," confesses

Bachchan. But consider-

ing the nature of the sub-

ject and the role-rever-

sal, does he think the

audience is mature

enough to accept

the f i lm? "I don't

know. That will have

to be seen when the

movie releases,"

says Big B.

With Abhishek

stating in many inter-

views that 'Pa was

a good child', on a

lighter note, Big B

was asked to rate

Abhi as an on-

screen father.

"Oh! He was a

very considerate

father. He didn't

beat me up or

scold me. In fact,

he did take me

around a lot,"

jokes Bachchan.

My father isMY HERO

You campaigned for your dad, RajBabbar. What triggered this deci-sion? Did you want to follow yourmother, Smita Patil, who had cam-paigned for Sunil Dutt in the 1984elections?

I felt it was my duty as his son to be

by his side. As his son, I owe it to him.

He does a lot for his children. He

needed me there and I was at his ser-

vice. I had no clue about my mother

campaigning till you mentioned it!

Do you believe in the ideologiesof the Congress?

This is really embarrassing, but I

have no clue about the system. I was

there only because my father wanted

me.

But do you believe in what you profess dur-ing these campaigns? Also, what do you expectfrom the politicians of this country?

Yes, I do! I think we need to live and let live in peace

and harmony. I think everything will fall into place once

that's sorted.

Your dad tops the list of crorepatis contesting theelections from Firozabad, in UP....

Hard work pays off, he's an unbelievably hardworking

man.

There have also been rumours of a rift between youand your father...

I don't bother and neither does he. My father is my hero

and that's never going to change.

What then prompted you to drop your surname?

I never did. I'm very proud of my last name.

Talking of names, your brother Arya, called you aCasanova. Are you one?

Having campaigned for dad Raj

Babbar, who's been elected to

the LS from Firozabad, defeat-

ing SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's

daughterin-law, actor PRATIK

BABBAR says that he's proud of his

last name.

I'm an actor.I could be anything or any

one - that's the beauty of my profes-

sion. I love it.

You seem to be snapping up theright deals post Jaane Tu... withDhobi Ghatand Sanjay LeelaBhansali's My Friend Pinto...

It's an urge to work, a passion for

cinema and a dream to entertain.

Post Jaane Tu..., what was it likeworking with Aamir again inDhobi Ghat, and with Kiran?

Working with Aamir Khan was

awesome. There's so much one can

learn from him. Aamir is entertainment

guaranteed. Both Kiran and he were

very supportive. I love them to death.

But whose idea was it for you to go tothe dhobi ghats and wash clothes fivehours a day?

It was my idea. I thought it would help me

portray my character in a more realistic fash-

ion.

So, you've decided to stick to acting?

Yes, I love the movie business. In fact,

there's no business like show business.

Do you purposely keep a low profile?

I purposely do nothing.

Finally then, what kind of a girl wouldit take to steal your heart?

Frankly, I have no clue. I guess, I am going

to have to find that out.

The couple goes to New York and finds a house in an Indian neighbourhood.

But soon Avantika realizes her own husband is a major part of the terrorist

sleeper cell operating there and is the reason for aeroplane blast that kills 140

people. She also comes to know that the terror outfit's next plan is something as

big as 9/11. How she unearths the plot with a journalist Riyaaz 's (Vivek) aid and

what it all leads forms the rest of the plot.

Writer Rensil D'Silva (Rang De Basanti) making his directorial debut delivers

a taut thriller that keeps you engrossed throughout. Despite its long running time

of over 2 hours and 40 minutes his gripping narrative has enough twists n turns

and chilling moments. Cutting away from commercial cinema traps and un-

wanted cinematic liberties, he has made Kurbaan one of the best thrillers to be

experienced on the big screen in recent times. Without taking any sides, the film

manages to strike an impact leaving you shaken with the full of bloodshed

climax.

More compelling than the similarly themed New York, Kurbaan scores for its

brisk pacing, and for the fact that it doesn't offer an over-simplistic view of the

terrorism issue. The film allows enough room for all perspectives and avoids

romanticizing the terrorist as a victim seeking revenge, even if characters like

Bhaijaan (played by Om Puri) and Aapa (played by Kirron Kher) make the same

point repeatedly. It's in a dramatic classroom scene in which Vivek Oberoi's

character Riyaaz confronts white students and their predictable logic, that the

film reveals its neutral stance.

There has not been a moreprofound, a more thought-provoking, a more dramatic

story on the subject of terrorismbefore Kurbaan. It tries to pen-etrate into the psyche of not justthe terrorist, but also someone whohas been a helpless spectator allthis while. Love blossoms betweena Delhi college professor, Avantika(Kareena) and her newly joined col-league, Ehsaan Khan (Saif). Butas she receives a call to join backher University in New York, Ehsaanproposes marriage. While her fa-ther initially disapproves of thematch because of Ehsaan beinga Muslim, he finally gives his nodimpressed by Ehsaan's approach.

Kunal Deshmukhís Tum Mile is more of a romantic film with the

natural disaster backdrop added for effect. The couple faces two

storms. The storm within, when they come face to face after their

breakup. The storm outside, when a natural calamity strikes Mumbai on

26th July, 2005 [unprecedented rainfall devastated Mumbai on this date].

Two people [Emraan Hashmi,

Soha Ali Khan] meet after a hia-

tus of six years. What starts

off as a seemingly innocuous

encounter on the same flight

back to Mumbai, ends up as

a rollercoaster ride through

some of the darkest hours

of Mumbai, as they see the

city get swamped with di-

saster and loss... and are

forced to stick together in this

time of crisis.

The rest of the film is about the

couple battling for their lives

after being stuck in the rain and

floods. In their struggle for sur-

vival, they learn more about

each other and things which

stuck inROMANCE

FLOODSthey had not known in all those years of being together.

Emraan is only getting better with each passing film and in here as

well he is very impressive. Soha Ali Khan delivers her best performance

till date going through a gamut of expressions with amazing ease. Amongst

the rest cast the only one to leave a mark is debutant RJ Mantra. He is

very good playing Emraanís buddy.

KD has handled the love story very well. The tiffs between Emraan

and Soha are so identifiable. The ‘Dil Ibaadat’ song in particular com-

pletely moves you.

Pritam’s music is melodious to the core. The cinematography does

justice to the beauty of South Africa [romantic portions] and also during

the flood sequences. But the usage of stock footage, at places, doesn’twork. The computer graphics could’ve been better and more effective.

Pinwheels are an age old craft

that your Grandma will remem-

ber. Put together these pretty wind

decorations and stick them in your

garden. What you’ll need:• Colored card stock or construction paper

• Thumbtack or stick pin

• Pencil with new eraser

• White craft glue

• Scissors

• Sequins

• Pattern

How to make it:1. Print the pattern onto plain copy or

printer paper.

2. Cut the square pattern out, cutting on

the solid lines.

3. Lay pattern on top of colored paper

and trace the square. Cut out the square from

the colored paper.

4. Keep the pattern square on top of the

colored square. Either hold it in place with your

fingers or tape it down lightly on two of the sides.

5. Cut through the pattern and the col-

ored paper along the dotted lines but do not cut

in to the center circle.

6. Use a thumbtack or stick pin to poke

out the holes in every other corner as indicated

on the pattern. Set the pattern piece aside.

7. Take one corner (one with a hole) and

fold it toward the center of the square. Fold the

next corner that has a hole and fold it toward the

center on top of the first holed corner. Repeat

with the other two corners with holes until all

four are folded into the center. Glue the folds to

each other and to the center. Hold together until

dry.

8. Push the thumbtack through the cen-

ter of the pinwheel and into the eraser of the

pencil. Make sure the pinwheel isnít touching the

eraser or it wonít spin.

9. Glue some sequins to the flaps of the

pinwheel and let dry.

Tips:• You can use plain white paper and

have children color with crayons or markers to

decorate before cutting out the pinwheel pat-

tern.

• Decorate with lightweight items such

as sequins and stickers or glitter glue. Items like

buttons and craft jewels are too heavy.

• If the pinwheel isnít turning properly,

try using a longer stick pin rather than a thumb-

tack to allow more room between the pinwheel

and the eraser.

What keeps you looking this good?

My daily skincare regimen involves cleansing, toning and moisturising.

Healthy skin needs mild cleansing, for which I use gentle soaps. I use

products that are mild and do not strip my skin of essential proteins. I am not

much of a make-up user and stick to basics like a moisturiser, lip balm and a

neutral foundation.

I don't go for regular facials, but do indulge in clean-up sessions once in

a while. Also, I am very particular about taking off the make-up before I go to

bed. As a ritual, I like to luxuriate in a relaxing body massage with lukewarm

coconut or baby oil every week. I think working towards maintaining a

healthy body should be a priority for everyone. It is also equally important to

maintain a high emotional quotient and a positive attitude towards life.

How do you take time out for yourself after a hectic work schedule?

I take care of myself with homemade remedies and a balanced diet.

Working towards maintaining a healthy body should be a priority for every-

one. I try and work out as often as possible. Since, I travel regularly, it

becomes difficult for me to have a daily workout routine, but whenever I hit

the gym I do cardio training and some light weights.

regimen all go hand in hand to make possible a beautiful you today and

tomorrow. I am a firm believer in skincare the natural way. I am careful about

using skincare products that are the right mix of nature and science.

One should never try to go overboard on any products, as I think the

more you try to be experimental with your skin, the worse it gets. Just stick

to the basics of skincare and witness the splendid results. There are a host

of natural effective products available that are a better bet than harsh

chemically enhanced ones.

How important is a healthy diet for looking beautiful?

A healthy diet is the first step towards a healthy and fit body. I take a

balanced diet with carbs and proteins, and I'm very particular about dietary

proportions. I have three main meals in a day, breakfast being the most

important of them all. I try to keep my meals balanced and simple.

What are your reasons for being associated with the brands thatyou represent?

with these brands and hence the association. Brands which signify style,

Home is where good food is:

I believe in one thing. It is food that can keep us fit and healthy. It is food that can make us unfit and

unhealthy. So why not stick to the first type of food so that we can actually experience longevity? And

this first type of food is clearly defined by me as home cooked. It could be hot rotis straight from the

flame with a light drizzle of fragrant ghee, the long grains of dazzling white basmati grains that somehow

make rajma or kadhi as precious as caviar or those spongy wadas that soak up the sambhar. Well, be it

a pulao, or a khichdi, maybe a stew or dal rice, it could be some dry vegetable with roti, but traditional

home recipes do wonders for the spirit. These recipes keep the heart ticking ensconced in warmth of

tradition and cultural riches. Food eaten together keeps the family together and even if there are major

time constraints I am sure something can be done to get hot food onto the table once a day ìthe more

Indian it is the betterî the more traditional Indian it is the best!
