mention to Mrs Narelle Cussons and her helpers who spent many hours coordinating the event. I would also like to thank staff and students for all your help in making the day a successful one. And thank you to our parents and community members who came along to support our school. SCHOOL WEBSITE Great news … Our website will be up and running by the start of next term. We will continue to develop the site. I am really excited with this new method of communication with the KDHS community and beyond. The website will be a huge advantage as all notes and communications from the school will be posted, therefore, keeping the school community well informed of events and happenings. A BIG THANKYOU to Marcelle Howe for the development of the site. LOVE YOUR WORK. SCHOOL DRESSCODE Please be mindful when restocking your children‘s winter wardrobe that the school Dress Code stipulates NAVY BLUE jumpers and jackets with the school logo. Please do not send your children to school in coats, jackets or jumpers that are pink, green, yellow and blue (go the Eagles), purple, black etc as these colours do not meet KDHS‘s dress code requirements. The School Council reviewed the Dress Code policy in 2013. Please refer to the following information The Standard Uniform

Only the school uniform is to be showing. Garments worn underneath are not to show. Exception: round necked undergarment (navy, pale blue or white) showing from beneath a school T-shirt at the neck only.

Kojonup DHS has a no-denim School Dress Code.

PARENT SURVEY Thank you to those parents who took the time to complete the survey. I know there were a few issues with the link so once I have worked with the support desk to sort through these we will run it again next term. This is possibly why we only had 17 surveys completed out of approximately 120 possible responses; therefore, 14% provided feedback on our school‘s performance. The areas where we received the best feedback was in the following areas:

My child likes being at this school (4.2)

This school is well maintained (3.9)

My child feels safe at this school (3.8)

I can talk to my child‘s teachers about my concerns (3.8)

71% agreed that teachers at this school motivate my child to learn 71% agreed that this school works with me to support my child‘s learning. 65% agreed that teachers at this school treat students fairly 65% agreed that the school was well maintained 65% agreed my child is making good progress at this school 65% agreed my child‘s learning needs are being met at this school Since this is the last newsletter for this term, I would like to wish you all a happy and safe holiday break with your children and see you back next term.

FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL – Jayde McIvor As the term draws to an end I would like to thank all of the parents and students for their support and cooperation over the last nine weeks and I look forward to working with you all next term. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child/children via the front office, 9831 2300 or email, [email protected]. Grip Leadership Conference – On Wednesday 19

th and Friday 21

st March our Primary & Secondary leaders as well as the House Captains attended the

GRIP Leadership conference in Albany and Bunbury respectively. The students participated in an array of activities to build their leadership skills as well as learning how to have the confidence to stand up for what you believe in and voice your opinion. Thank you to those parents who drove the primary students to Albany. Interschool Carnival & Spring Valley Tennis - Good luck to those students who will be representing KDHS at both the Inter-School Swimming Carnival, in Lake Grace and the Spring Valley Tennis Tournament, in Perth this Friday the 4

FROM THE CHAPLAIN – Julie Sullivan Hello everyone, I wanted to inform you that as of last Monday 31

st March, I have returned to school. I have been absent

on leave having undergone a knee replacement operation in January. My recuperation has gone well and I‘m up and about once again, ready and eager to get back into my Chaplaincy duties. I will be at school on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. If you would like to talk to me my room number is 9831 0235 and my mobile is 0427 272 735. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Mr Simon House, who has voluntarily come into the school two mornings a week to help out with the students and in the classrooms, in my absence. I believe he has done an amazing job and is well loved by the children. I hope we‘ll see lots more of Simon over the term.

BREAKY CLUB Breakfast Club has begun again for 2014 on Monday and Thursday mornings before school, in the Chaplaincy Room. There has been a tremendous response so far, with over 30 children most mornings, with a maximum of 36. I believe the children‘s behaviour has been fantastic as well. Our number of helpers is very limited. We have four or five people only, each week. If you would like to be a helper, please contact Dianne House on 9832 8048. I wish you all a wonderful holiday and a blessed Easter.

LIBRARY NEWS The pick of the week for Lower/Middle Primary: GALLIPOLI By Kerry Greenwood & Annie White. Dawn approaches on 25

th April 1915 and the ANZACs Bluey and Dusty sail toward Gallipoli. As

their ship gets closer, the two friends hear the noise of battle, and worry if they are brave enough for what lies ahead of them. This book has been published to help young readers understand the significance of Anzac Day. The pick of the week for Middle to Upper Primary: 1841 The Bushranger’s Boy By Alison Lloyd. This is the first book in a new series called DO YOU DARE? This is a companion series to Our Australian Girl which has been around for a while now. The stories in the series cover important eras and events in Australia‘s history, from convict days through to the Depression. The first story is about Jem and the Bushranger William Westwood. That‘s all I‘m going to tell you. Harry Stevenson has already read this book and highly recommends it. Borrowing has ceased for this term. If your child has books please endeavour to return them before the holidays.

THE YEAR 2’S AT THE FARM The Year 2 class have been very busy at the school farm. We have been planting flowers in tea cups and tea pots that have been kindly donated to our class. These will be sold at the School Farm Open Garden Day in May. We also have been very lucky as we have had the chance to hold the new arrivals to the farm, the baby chickens.

WORD GAME What Comes Next? (Like hangman) In What Comes Next? your child is required to guess the letters in the correct order. • Choose a word from something your child has read or from a particular subject area, e.g. diameter. Make a dash for

each letter in the word. • Give your child a clue to help them guess the first letter, e.g. the first letter is between C and E in the alphabet. • Allow your child to guess the letter. • As your child guesses the next letter, a guess that could be a correct English letter sequence is written on the left, e.g.

dr, de. • Those that could not be a correct English letter sequence are written on the right as single letters, e.g. t, b — not

modelling incorrect letter patterns, e.g. dt, ditk. • A penalty is only given for guesses that could not be correct. When your child guesses a letter that couldn‘t be right, a

segment of the mouse is drawn. Can choose another animal. • Have your child continue to guess the letters in order until all letters are written. • The game ends if the drawing of the mouse is completed before the word is completed.

GOODBYE BETTY MOO It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Betty Moo. She has been a much loved icon and a wonderful talking point for all of our visitors, students and staff in the front office for the last four years. Betty Moo is moving to Frankland Primary School where Holly Parker and her students will be redecorating her.

Pictured are the Year 6 class from 2010 who helped decorate our beautiful Betty Moo

MUSIC INSTRUMENT LESSONS What a fantastic start to music lessons we have had this term. I hope you have been embracing the sound of practice in your homes. The timetable has been finalised on a week A and B rotation so that the pupils don't have to miss the same lesson each week. Most pupils have decided to learn the piano which is great for beginners and we also have a few pupils learning the flute and saxophone with great success. Everyone has now learnt their first set of scales and the songs are coming along nicely. Please keep signing the practice diaries, your child should aim for a minimum of three 10-15 minutes of practice a week. There are prizes to be won with more practice!! Next term we will be learning how to read the music if your child hasn't already. There are still a few spaces left if you are interested in lessons, please contact Alex Delling on 0439 675 108 or [email protected]
